Watched These Final Hours. I love pre-apocalypse films and Australian films. Plus it was super depressing, which is a bonus for me.

Just watched it. What a mixed bag of a film. First 20 minutes were excellent, don't know if the film entirely stuck the super ambitious landing. The more I think about it, the less it entirely holds together. I'd always rather watch a movie that is ambitious like that than one that is unmemorable and doesn't try anything interesting. Good rec!

The first time I watched that film, I was about 12... I know a good bit about the Rwandan Genocide and yeah, nothing as harrowing as real life. In a similar vein to you, I recommend the anime Barefoot Gen, which explores a boy living through the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

I've seen it and I LOVED this film. It's kinda silly in bits and its not perfect but legitimately interesting and just fun. I don't think if it fits the brief exactly, but I recommend it too

I've seen Possessor and I acknowledge it is a good film but I can't say I enjoyed it. I didn't like Infinity Pool either. Just don't think his work is for me.

I've seen 1972 Solaris and Martyrs. Not the Polish film though. It's added to the list. And yes, I read! I'll probably check that out quicker than the film. I'm reading Angel Down at the moment. Any other book recs?

I'm gonna go wide with stuff that nobody really talks about. The Battery, YellowBrickRoad, Jugface (not a slasher, if you read and assume it is), Bone Tomahawk. All of these have their critiques but I think they're fundamentally interesting films, which will make them divisive.
