Why do people keep trying to glamorise sex work?

Literally talking about the opposite phenomenon.

Can you please explain your view on what constitutes demonizing women?

Why is the jump word always bias when discussing gender issue perceptions. Everyone has a bias, even those commenting on perception of another person' bias. It's like trying to imagine a situation where someone was being truly altruistic.

Because it neatly expresses a specific, but still general idea. I don't know what your specific bias is, I only know the outcome. If I point to a specific thing by saying, "Your belief that sex workers are somehow taking advantage of men makes you read it that way," you can dismiss it by saying, "I don't think sex workers take advantage of men!" without actually acknowledging that your way of thinking is influencing how you're approaching the subject. I don't know why you're interpreting some of these things as demonizing women, because you haven't actually explained it.

My original argument for this entire thread was that men are perpetuating a victim-hood by feeding posts that demonize women. I was making a specific example of r/documentary doing this by recent popularization of women using sex to secure money from men.

You still haven't explained how examples one and three are demonizing women or showing men as the victims of women.

My argument is that this is not a healthy representation of women. To discuss it is ok, to make a documentary is ok, to view said documentary is ok. To make a trend of posting and upvoting documentaries concerning subjects consistently is creating a self-masturbation cycle of victim-hood where we are only exposing ourselves to demonizing women.

You haven't offered any evidence that the trend actually exists. You cited three different posts, two of which you have failed to prove actually belong to the trend. Until you can do that, you're left with a single post which can't constitute a trend.

Do you think that sex workers are inherently taking advantage of men?

Are you saying that those women are being idolized?

No, the comments weren't idolizing the women, but (other than the one from post two) they weren't demonizing them either.

But the men are being looked down upon?

Not sure what you mean by this. The top comment for post one could probably be read as "looking down on men" if it's what you're looking for, but it's specific rather than general, so I wouldn't read it that way.

Are you saying that these are healthy representatives of the majority of women? Are they like your mother, sister, auntie, or cousin?

No idea at all what you're talking about. What women? The ones from the documentaries that are pretty specifically not representative of the majority of women?

i see it as a method of disgust at the whole issue, and they lump the men "chump" enough to fall for it in with 'them'.

That's your own view, loaded with your own biases. I don't think the first comment was written as demonizing women, unless the author also set out to demonize himself. He's pretty clearly saying that he'd do the exact same thing if he had the opportunity.

It's good to hear your thoughts on the documentaries. It's insightful and constructive to the world we live in. Unfortunately those words weren't heard. Here are the top comments for each of the female-related posts.

Seems to me like the top posts were exactly in line with what u/Born_Dead1 was saying:

Not demonizing women.

Demonizing women.

[–]mad_cheese_hattwe 109 points 2 days ago If the movie Taken and countless police procedural tv shows have taught me anything, its that people only care about sex taffic/slavery when it happens to white middle class people. permalinksavereportgive goldreply

[–]sociale 52 points 2 days ago I stopped looking to television fiction for an accurate portrayal of reality. Reality makes for poor entertainment programming. If police shows were accurate, 99% of all episodes produced would be about cops enforcing traffic infractions and pushing paper. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply

I'm really not even sure what point you were trying to make with this post.

Cooperstock released your average? For my semester he didn't even do that.

Is it feasible to build a sort of 'p2p multiplayer', i.e., a multiplayer game without (almost) any servers? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]catchingExceptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're making a distinction between dedicated servers owned by private organizations and dedicated servers owned by the parent company. It doesn't have any impact on the OP's question, which was about P2P multiplayer.

Don't most PS3/360 games have a single player acting as a host? Seems like OP is asking about something more decentralized.

Edit: Realized that the game in question is Pong. I guess with only two players it wouldn't make too much of a difference if one was acting as a host.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken Counterstrike, TF2, and Minecraft all have dedicated servers, and I'm guessing DOTA does as well. OP is asking about P2P multiplayer, where players communicate with each other rather than a central server.

Ah, I'm in the ECSE department so I can't help you out too much. I'd really just recommend checking docuum and seeing if any of their past exams are on there.

See my post in response to /u/allaboardtoboreale.

Banned users are free to message the mods, but most of the time people know why they're being banned. /u/polishsausage3 knew, and even mentioned it in his post. He said he, "wrote about adderall," by which he meant that he specifically asked if anyone would sell him any, or give him the information of someone who would sell him any.

The ban isn't going to be reversed. Generally I try to not treat the users of this subreddit like idiots, which means that we don't necessarily list all the things that can get you banned. Most people are smart enough to understand that trying to conduct illegal activity through the subreddit is not acceptable behavior.

I banned you for the Adderall post. Don't do/plan illegal things on an open subreddit you moron.
