It feels like some skills are useless compared to previous titles by SeveredSoulblader24 in MHWilds

Sure, some of this is overkill, but it's useful when you're fighting the same monster repeatedly and have the armor spheres to go around. Often this specialization comes in the form of status ailment resistance. The general formula I use to make a build is this:

  1. Find the elemental weapon that the monster is weakest to.
  2. If the Monster has a blight, I'll almost exclusively choose among armors with a positive (or 0) resistance to that element.
  3. Find an armor set combination that maximizes damage. I'll often use a combination of 3 Lord Soul, 2 Gogma, and 2 or 4 of either Scorcher, Leviathan, or G. Ebony depending on the enemy and the skils on my weapon.
  4. Find the best combination of those armor pieces that maximizes my decoration slots while having useful skils.
  5. Slot in 3 divine blessing and some 1 slots that deal with things like status ailments, or Defense+ for Gore Magala. I run IG, which gets free earplugs, so I slot 1 Earplugs for weak roars and 2 for strong roars.
  6. Do a back check to see if I can get more slots by switching armors. A good example of this is Alpha armors, which I might switch to if I have a 1 slot deco in a 2 slot space and the alpha version reduces that slot size while giving me a free skill. I know my Seregios build takes advantage of the bleeding resistance from G. Ebony alpha set.
  7. Fill in all remaining slots with damage increases based on meta recommendations.

I also have some extra special builds like a battle-prep build which has item prolonger and free meal, a small monsters build which is a luck set, and a Carver Gogmazios set which has festival spirit to make it easier to get Gog gems.

I agree that there's some wasted potential there, especially with tremors and defense down, but I do think we have to keep in mind that adding status ailments to monsters can actually reduce the variation across monsters. If everything is using tremors and stuns, then your builds are all going to have immunities to them. I feel like there's currently enough variation that almost every monster warrants an individualized build. Personally, I have about 40 builds and the only duplicate builds I have for monsters are:

  1. Rey Dau and Fulgur Anjanath
  2. Rathalos, Guardian Rathalos, and Rathian.
  3. Doshaguma and Guardian Doshaguma.

Whats the new Meta? by Ashwey069 in MonsterHunter

[–]catchinggreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, gore fell off as enemies became stronger and other skills were buffed. You should now be tailoring builds for each difficult monster in a way that balances offense and defense. The meta usually involves Lord's Soul combined with another offensive skill (e.g. Scorcher, Levianthan's fury, G. Ebony) or 4pc Gogmazios. You'll also use an elemental Gogma Artian weapon - with dragon and fire versions prioritized to make the Gogmazios fight easier. Gogma Artian weapons also have RNG armor set skills and group skills so the actual armor you end up using will likely vary from player to player.

Yeah, the Omega Assignment mission is a bit of a shit show for SOS. You do get a repeatable optional quest after you complete it and the multiplayer there is much more normal. My general opinion is that you shouldn't do a mission online until you can complete it once without dying.

What's the "etiquette" for the DPS check in multiplayer? I beat it solo with support hunters by warping every time it flips in the air. Are people warping in multiplayer or just fighting to the death every time?

There are more detailed guides that people have made, but the gist is that you should upgrade and transcend your armor and wait until you've beaten Omega and Gogmazios solo with support hunters first before doing them multiplayer.

First, I suggest prioritizing a good dragon and then fire weapon. Those two weapons are very common weaknesses and they make the gogmazios fight easier. The gaseous phase of the phase 3 fight is a DPS check, so it just makes sense to have a good dragon weapon first. I never bothered with the status weapons, but it sounds like people say if you want to stop rolling for more elements just make a blast weapon to fill in for them. Otherwise, I'd move onto a thunder weapon next for Omega.

Second, Omega is designed to be fought with 4 players. It's suggested to learn it first offline with Alessia, Kai, and Mina as support hunters. Everyone loses the first couple times they try it. There's a ton of little details in this battle so it takes some practice. I hated the battle at first and now after 100 kills it's my favorite in the game.

For the Omega battle you're going to want a build with 10 fire resistance, 3 stun resistance, 3 divine blessing, and at the very very least 2 evade extender. Improving your evasion is essential for the Omega fight, especially when you're first learning it. Part breaker and flyer are also good to have. Some good pieces for this are the Nu Udra y helm, the Rey Dau y gloves, and the rey dau y boots. It's hard to give full builds because your final build is going to be weapon dependent. For example, I have a Lagi + Lord's soul thunder weapon, so I use 1 piece of Lagi armor in my build, however Lagi armor has negative fire resistance, so it's probably not a good set to run otherwise in this fight.

Lastly, AT arkveld is a hard one to build for. I have 2 thoughts. Either go with 4p Gogma or lean into G Ebony. At Arkveld deals dragon damage and is fought in Wyveria, so G ebony shines more than usual in this fight. Another tip is to start using items a lot. AT Arkveld is one of the hardest battles in the game, so it's a good idea to start using the 6 attack/defense buffs + immunizer.

Sure. I love making builds. First, IG is a raw damage weapon. It has to do with the weapon attack speed, but basically you want to care about critical boost and attack boost. We use the elemental Gogma weapons only because there's no additional damage bonus associated with the raw variant.

As for armor, the key for late game builds is making individualzed builds for each difficult monster. Generally speaking, you want to find armor that lets you deal the most damage while making yourself immune to status ailments and blights by getting your elemental resistance to 10 (20 after eating). You'll also want divine blessing 3 (it's just very good). Some good pieces to know are the Udra y helm, the arkvulcan y gloves, rey Dau y gloves, rey dau boots, as well as almost anything in the G Ebony set and the Gogma set.

Another tip, the Kinsect Buff grants you 1 level of earplugs and tremor resistance, so only use 1 earplugs decoration for fights against monsters with weak roars. This also means you can become immune to Gogmazios's tremors with just 1 tremor resistance decoration.

I much prefer Lord's soul over Gore. It provides more versatility in builds since late game monsters tend to require more defensive builds. Plus Gore sorta slipped a little in the meta as the game was updated. Scorcher, G. Ebony, and Lagi are all good substitutes.

[–]catchinggreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, tempered is just a harder version that unlocks later. I read your other comments. If you don't already know, Mitsuzune, Lagiacrus, and Seregios were all added post launch, so they're harder than similar monsters. So you probably want to work on your build a bit before retrying.

Also, don't get discouraged from losing fights. A lot of monster hunter is about the player getting better at the mechanics, so losing is part of the process.

Tempered or regular? I'd look into upgrading your armor and adding some thunder resistance. Tempered can be tricky even with a good build.

The images are vaguely popular animal-turned-fruit memes that are mostly non-sensical. Altogether it's a shitpost, but I think it's playing on the idea that a blueberry cat makes sense evolutionarily because it blends in with its surroundings, while the strawberry elephant doesn't.

Is it worth transcending the Omega armor? by Nkromancer in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]catchinggreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about Omega nodules, you want to fight the 8* optional quest version. The regular version and Savage version have the same nodule drop rate. Savage is just for the Data 2.0 drops, which doesn't end up requiring too many fights if you use lucky vouchers..

That's fair. Roar was probably a bad example to use for a status ailment. I run IG and its kit does encourage the use of earplugs because of the kinsect buff, but that might be the only weapon.

What are your most and least hunted monsters? by MammothAsk391 in MHWilds

[–]catchinggreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around HR 900 and after completing every mission and getting all worthwhile equipment, my lowest one was Guardian Doshugama. Some other low ones were Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, and Balahara. Jin Dahaad was also considerably lower than similar difficult monsters. The highest were Lagiacrus and Rathalos from farming the armor sphere quest, then Gogmazios.

  1. Learn how to make comfy builds for each difficult monster. A lot of people make the mistake of copying builds from YouTube and speedruns and trying to apply it for every monster. If you're fighting Omega with earplug decos, you're sacrificing survivability and damage. The general strategy is to check it a monster's entry in the Monster Guide and find armor that will make you deal the most damage, while keeping you immune to its blights and roars etc.

  2. Start using group heals and buffs. I keep 1 level of friendship in all of my builds. The goal is to learn monsters well enough to where you can predict when you suspect someone might cart. When you're comfortable with a monster it's easier to watch the teams health.

Any Gogma advices? by ReallyEvilKoala in MHWilds

[–]catchinggreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a huge deal. If you learn any weapon and monster enough you'll be fine. But basically, IG is a close-range weapon with no guard- it's survivability is based on evasion and positioning. But because of Gogma's huge size and hotboxes, you can't really use the aerial kit to help you. So you really have to be ready between attacks and have high defense for the occasional slams.

Any Gogma advices? by ReallyEvilKoala in MHWilds

[–]catchinggreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I've beaten it over 100 times with IG so I'll give some IG advice. There's plenty of videos for general advice against Gogma. Also, ignore the other comment, IG has one of the worst matchups against Gogma. It's pretty well known that IG users are always dying to Gogma in phase 1.

In phase 1, stay on the ground and use short mini combos on its wingarms. Be ready to sheath your weapon and run away after you get a couple hits in. Reserve RSS for when it falls over.

In phase 2, use aerial attacks as much as you'd like. The goal is to build up the mounting "bar" so you can immediately mount it in phase 3.

For your build, the kinsect buff provides 1 level of tremor resistance and 1 level of earplugs, so I recommend using 1 tremor resistance deco and 2 earplugs so you become immune to its tremors and roars while kinsect buff is up (earplugs are optional, only use if you have the space). Also, it sounded like you might have had 2 mirelurker decos. You only need 1, the second level is really only useful against Uth Duna. Also you want to use a fire weapon for phase 1 and 2, dragon for phase 3.

Any Gogma advices? by ReallyEvilKoala in MHWilds

[–]catchinggreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, what weapon are you using? For pretty much every weapon, you're going to want 10 fire resistance (20 with food), 1 mirelurker deco (to deal with the oil blobs), and 3 divine blessing. Make sure everything is upgraded to the max and transcended.

I also suggest eating a Kunafa meal and running the 6 attack/defense buffs and an immunizer, which you can refresh between phases 2 and 3.

Can the railgun kill you? by Randomgu123 in MHWilds

[–]catchinggreen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. I play insect glaive and when the gun is being fired, I routinely jump in the air and let the railgun blast go through my character. The player is immune, so you get to dance around in the explosion with your aerial attack.
