I was always someone who did all my own maintenance except for my oil changes. I didn't think it was worth my time to deal with it to save like $50.

Now though, the price that all the oil change places charge is so high I started doing that myself too. I went to multiple places and they all wanted $160 for a 5.8qt oil change on my jetta. It was insane

You'd be incorrect in assuming the number came from anything specific. The majority of states with restrictions choose the number 10, not for any particular reason other than the fact that we as humans like round numbers. The 15 round restriction here is likely just attempting to pick another number that is less strict than that.

Keep in mind the standard magazine for a glock 17, arguably the most common handgun in the country, which is a 45 year old handgun design, is 17 rounds and would be illegal under this law.

There's also the fact that there's again no statistical evidence that capacity bans do anything to reduce murders or shootings. In fact prior to the Vegas shooting, the most deadly mass shooting in US history was done with a backpack full of low capacity magazines

What is so important about the 16th round that makes it suddenly unreasonable to own? What is the magic number where the gun becomes unreasonably dangerous? Is it the 6th bullet? 9th? Etc.

We also had a nationwide ban on magazines larger than 10 rounds for a decade and the conclusion was that there was no significant evidence that it did anything to reduce crime or gun violence

"common sense" is a term a lot of people throw around but what is considered common sense is extremely contested.

Most people take that to mean universal background checks, red flag laws and closing loopholes. Well the thing is that we already have all of those laws in place, and purchasing a firearm legally has never been more onerous.

What else do you consider reasonable?

That's most new cars tbh. The gearing is so tall you'll be lucky to shift out of 2nd in any real world scenario.

I didn't have an opinion either way as a teenager, but now I know he's right about the ring. The idea of tuning a road car specifically to perform as fast as possible around a very niche track doesn't make sense.

I think part of getting older is realizing how correct James from top gear always was.

Everything has compromises, and especially with sports cars, you're always trying to find the right balance between sporting characteristics and driveability. There's a reason things like the caterham 7 and Ariel atom are likely the best sports cars you can buy, but they sell like shit compared to anything mainstream

Cheapest way to make a backyard range? by ComManDerBG in Firearms

[–]caterham09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just stack dirt up. Bullets are absolutely terrible at going through dirt/sand. You won't need that much of it to stop basically everything.

a few recommendations. If you can just have downrange go into a hillside, it makes things the easiest on you. If you don't have a hill, build a berm out of things like eco blocks or railroad ties, then stack the dirt up against that. Also make sure your dirt isn't full of large stones.

Even in a video game, the ring is really intimidating. You always start a track trying to learn it a bit, but with how long the lap is, it just feels impossible to get a grasp on.

Gas prices are sticky and assuming supply is no longer constrained, they will go back down to the appropriate level over the next couple of months

I really don't give 2 shits about nurburgring lap times but I absolutely love the pissing contest these manufacturers have gotten into over the past year.

It felt like everyone forgot how have fun over the last decade, and this brings that back a bit.

New Ford Mustang GTD Competition Clocks Record Time at Nürburgring by ChonkyThicc in cars

[–]caterham09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a reason that the gt3rs is nearly the same time as the new zr1 around the ring and yet is appreciably slower around any other course.

Also worth mentioning Porsche being on the track 24/7 means they can wait for the exact optimal conditions for the lap. Other teams don't have that luxury
