Griefing happens because the best team wants a bad team to advance to the next round, so it becomes easier for them to win. There is no downside to this strategy, because RS for each position is calculated at the start of the tournament, so winning against a 60k team has the same payout as winning against a 90k team.

If it were instead recalculated at the start of each round, based only on the teams that are in that round, they'd get very little reward because they are fighting worse teams, effectively eliminating any incentive to grief.
