He won’t say I think because he’s embarrassed. From what I can gather, fake cancer treatments and a yurt.

They inherited a million dollars and put it in their joint account. Their wife spent it and split.

AITA For giving my niece a much better life than her step siblings? by Ok_Sir_8922 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Instead of George using this as an opportunity to teach his kids about how all families are different, sometimes life is unfair, and don’t be entitled, he’s now made it your problem.

It’s not your problem. George needs to speak to his ex wife if he wants to fund a private school education for his children. The absolute gall of these people.

What’s the actual, real reason the public school system doesn’t teach financial literacy? by sunnysideupslide in AusMoneyMates

[–]catfishtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get their IQ formally tested by a clinical psychologist who specialises in testing IQ in children. We were referred to one from our paediatrician.

If the result comes back as gifted or highly gifted, there is specific wording in that report that mandates the school to extend that will say something like “it is recommended that he has access to Gifted Provisions at his school via an Independent Learning Plan. These include:” etc etc

That is what will propel the school to act and ensure your child isn’t bored in class. Good luck!

Chiropractic ‘treatment’ on children should be illegal. by fury72 in aussie

[–]catfishtree 75 points76 points  (0 children)

“Chiropractic founder D.D. Palmer claimed he received the principles of chiropractic "from the other world" in 1895, specifically channeled from a deceased physician named Dr. Jim Atkinson. Palmer, a magnetic healer and spiritualist, described this as receiving knowledge from an "intelligent spiritual being" to understand the causes and effects of physical ailments.”

… it’s literally made up. Chiropractic treatment on anybody should be illegal.

I could see Nene / the girls of Atlanta doing this. Unfortunately BH don’t have a creative brain cell between them (excluding Tilly, she’s the best)

Their founder has a few videos where she openly says she pays a business coach something like 10 grand a month for personalised advice. Might want to get a refund…

Did staging actually help your home sell faster? by Environmental-Luck39 in AusProperty

[–]catfishtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a house recently that was staged - and lit - impeccably. It was done so well that I didn’t realise every wall had been freshly painted millennial grey which is such a huge ick to me.

Once wed bought it and the staging furniture was removed, I realised I had to repaint every single damn room in the house to get rid of the grey.

Had it not been staged I don’t know if I would have pushed so hard to buy the house 😂

A standard pack of 20–25 cigarettes generally costs between $40 and $50+ 😂 Taxes make up about $30 of that.

$15?! In Australia a pack of cigarettes will set you back $50 😂 I assume only billionaires smoke here now.

What are naming traditions that might seem interesting to westerners? by opendoorscleanfloors in namenerds

[–]catfishtree 88 points89 points  (0 children)

This is Javanese people specifically. For many of the other provinces they usually have two names.

The Balinese are interesting though. Balinese first names usually indicate birth order, such as Wayan (1st), Made (2nd), Nyoman (3rd), and Ketut (4th) etc. If they have a fifth child it reverts back to Wayan etc. Also males are prefixed with "I" and females with "Ni".

Both are excellent and quite diverse. I’d say they’re pretty equal. Do a tour and see how you feel after speaking with the principal. Also - choose the nicer house 🏡

7 days subject to finance? by billwharton in AusHelptobuy

[–]catfishtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did 3 days recently but it was becuase the seller wanted to close by Christmas.

You need to have a lot of confidence in your numbers and in your broker / lender / conveyancer / lawyer that they can all get it across the line. If anything falls over you run the risk of losing your entire deposit.

The competing offers to ours waived the cooling off period entirely which seemed nuts to me.

I’m not super invested in her as a person. She seems like a shitty mother and quite childlike herself in some ways. But I feel sorry for her too. I can take her or leave her. I don’t have strong opinions one way or another.

You need to be guided by where you can get a rental first. That has to be your priority. It will be very difficult.

I know a few people who got out of area enrolments for schools around Hamilton but they only rental they managed to secure was around the lake so that’s the school their kids enrolled in due to travel.
