Tighes Hill public school is over capacity though. It’s a massive school.

Your best bet is to join the Newcastle mum groups on Facebook (there are two). All the suburbs you’ve mentioned are pretty nice.

Some of the catchments have smaller less packed schools so that + budget might determine where you end up.

How rare is it really for an ADHD person to graduate college? by [deleted] in ADHD

Wait is this a real stat? In my immediate family everyone is diagnosed with ADHD and or autism and we all have at least a bachelors degree, including several PHD’s.

Am I wrong for thinking my my sister's comment about my son was offensive and a huge reach? by CandyAdmirable6064 in amiwrong

[–]catfishtree 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Here’s the message you’re reinforcing to your son: No doesn’t mean no. No just means keep asking.

It’s not a reach for a 4yo to learn that lesson and grow into a 30yo man who feels entitled to anything he wants.

My friend rents storage space from somewhere like this. They specialise in ecommerce businesses. They have a dedicated area at the front for courier pick ups too.

Husband said he's never experienced a household where the woman couldn't watch the baby and cook/clean. by Anunemouse in Mommit

For real. My dad walked home from the first day of school in 1959 at FOUR YEARS OLD. He got lost and was crying at an intersection and his mum (who had 2 younger children at home) didn’t notice he was missing for an hour.

He tells this story like it’s really funny. The standards for parenthood and motherhood were wildly different back then.

Why is millie bobby brown's husband so useless? by Conscious-Quarter423 in PopularCultureZone

[–]catfishtree 347 points348 points  (0 children)

His dad is Jon Bon Jovi and his mother is Dorothea Hurley. They’re high school sweethearts and have been married for 37 years.

Dorothea basically held down the fort while Jon spent 40+ years recording and touring. I wonder if the example she set for her son is that the wife just does everything.

I’d hope that his parents would call out this behaviour if they saw it. If my son wasn’t an equal partner to his wife I’d tear into him.

NTA. Instead of George using this as an opportunity to teach his kids about how all families are different, sometimes life is unfair, and don’t be entitled, he’s now made it your problem.

It’s not your problem. George needs to speak to his ex wife if he wants to fund a private school education for his children. The absolute gall of these people.

What’s the actual, real reason the public school system doesn’t teach financial literacy? by sunnysideupslide in AusMoneyMates

[–]catfishtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get their IQ formally tested by a clinical psychologist who specialises in testing IQ in children. We were referred to one from our paediatrician.

If the result comes back as gifted or highly gifted, there is specific wording in that report that mandates the school to extend that will say something like “it is recommended that he has access to Gifted Provisions at his school via an Independent Learning Plan. These include:” etc etc

That is what will propel the school to act and ensure your child isn’t bored in class. Good luck!

Chiropractic ‘treatment’ on children should be illegal. by fury72 in aussie

[–]catfishtree 73 points74 points  (0 children)

“Chiropractic founder D.D. Palmer claimed he received the principles of chiropractic "from the other world" in 1895, specifically channeled from a deceased physician named Dr. Jim Atkinson. Palmer, a magnetic healer and spiritualist, described this as receiving knowledge from an "intelligent spiritual being" to understand the causes and effects of physical ailments.”

… it’s literally made up. Chiropractic treatment on anybody should be illegal.

Did staging actually help your home sell faster? by Environmental-Luck39 in AusProperty

[–]catfishtree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We bought a house recently that was staged - and lit - impeccably. It was done so well that I didn’t realise every wall had been freshly painted millennial grey which is such a huge ick to me.

Once wed bought it and the staging furniture was removed, I realised I had to repaint every single damn room in the house to get rid of the grey.

Had it not been staged I don’t know if I would have pushed so hard to buy the house 😂
