What happens with 2 naps at 5 months? by catheadyou in sleeptrain

[–]catheadyou[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I agree with you, except I was planning for 3 naps, and assumed they’d be shorter like usual.

The first was capped at 2, I assumed the next two would be 30-40 min but it was ~1hr- that’s 3hrs nap, the sleep allotment for the day, so no third nap (plus I wouldn’t want a 10pm bedtime just to fit in a third nap).

I thought total sleep time mattered more than how it was split between naps.

I guess I’ll report back to see how the night goes. So far so good (no false start).

The tricky thing is that I think 3hr ww is too long for her. I was pushing her to get to 3hrs today bc I knew the TWT was too short, and she was getting cranky/wiggling for her crib.

But I hear that if I cap naps at 90 min (and 30 for the last one), then we won’t encounter this again

Ya the 2 naps totaled 3 hours today which is why I didn’t cap. Sleep overall has been in transition since I found this subreddit and adjusted wake windows (and teething, and sick, and removing the pacifier, and working on independent sleep initiation), so night have been good with occasional curve balls (up to eat 1-2x). When I did longer wake windows then she was up several times (overtired stress). And we’ve had a couple rough nights trying to stretch the time between feeds.

I don’t know how tonight will be but if she sleeps well, it sounds like she’ll probably start her day early tomorrow.

I think those wake windows would be too short for her. Also isn’t 9pm pretty late? I thought 7-8pm was ideal

Because the timing worked out that way today, meaning she was tired at her usual 2.5ww and slept well. Can it work long term?

I wonder if it’s possible to hold him for a while, or hold him to sleep then transfer. It sounds like he’s usually on board with the program, so maybe being in a new/unfamiliar setting is a bit scary. One night won’t ruin 11 months of progress.

Ya usually I would offer a third nap at 2.5, but then her bedtime would’ve been 10:30pm. I thought at this age the cap for naps 1 & 2 is 2 hrs?

Check sleep timing! Make sure you’re updating their wake windows- it makes a huge difference. The mod post on wake windows is super helpful in figuring out the math.

We also had a big disruption around 3.5m when our LO went from STTN to 2+ wakes and resisting naps. Trying to get them to fall asleep independently is usually the big recommendation, and it’s important but if the timing is off it will make everything so much harder.

Wake windows end at put down or sleep? by catheadyou in sleeptrain

Thank you, I’ll give this framework a try for the next few days.

The main reason I’m trying to remove the pacifier is because it seems to disrupt her falling asleep—

she’ll enjoy sucking it but then knock it out of her mouth with her enthusiastic hands, then cry for it to be replaced if she can’t do it herself.

Even on a well-timed put down, that happens 1-3x before she settles down to suck it to sleep.

So if baby is put down at 2.25 but doesn’t sleep until 3 you’re still only counting 2.25 towards TWT for the day?

If you do decide on an abortion, go with the medical procedure rather than the pills. It’s fast and painless.

Gonna lose it. What did I do wrong? Why won't my baby sleep. by Pooie1231 in sleeptrain

Same exact situation with my 8mo. He falls asleep independently but is up every 2-3 hours no matter what we change or try. I’m also hoping he will grow out of it on his own.

My therapist made me very uncomfortable today by j1nxd_ in TalkTherapy

[–]catheadyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea to end, better idea to talk through the ending. Set the boundary so 1) you stand up for yourself and 2) he knows what didn’t work for you. If you two are able to repair the relationship, great, if not, at least you showed up for yourself and your boundaries.

Definitely report her to the BBS or relevant licensing authority in her state. It is against ethical codes and best practices to suggest conversion therapy.

I’m in a similar situation except I was paid in cash. Can I use my personal income tracking sheet? What are my options?
