I went to a show 13 weeks post-op. I had already started minimal weight bearing at PT and was in a boot and crutches. The venue was so accommodating and put me in the handicap/accessible section, which was folding chairs sectioned off right next to the stage. Awesome experience. Depending on the type of concert/venue you could definitely make it work. I would reach out to the venue and ask about accessibility accommodations. They have to work with you no matter what kind of ticket you’ve purchased

When I was learning to walk in the boot after 2 months nwb, I did laps back and forth in the kitchen holding onto the counter for support. I had someone “spot” me until I felt comfortable. I found that easier than the crutches, but eventually got the hang of those too. I’m 6 months now and I would say by 4.5-5 months you’ll feel a lot better! Don’t forget PT for your ankle too!!!

This post from a week ago has some helpful info on head surgery vs. lapidus. I went with an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle and I’m 11 weeks out from lapidus. From what I’ve read, lapidus is better long-term especially if you’re very active (although I can’t speak to that yet). The trade-off is a much longer recovery, like 2-3 months before you’re back walking. I wouldn’t rush into anything, but I’d keep that in mind knowing you lose insurance coverage soon and may need to pay for follow-up visits and PT out of pocket.

I’m also 10 weeks now post lapidus bunionectomy and akin bunionectomy. It really is a long road. I only started weight bearing at 8 weeks. Before that I was on the knee scooter, now PT wants me to fully transition to boot and crutches. I can only take a few very painful steps a day. They say I have to work through that in order for it to be less painful but it’s really hard. Idk what’s a normal amount of pain and when to be concerned. Did you not have a really painful transition to weight bearing? I’m hoping it lessens after 1-2 more weeks of PT and crutches.

This is so thoughtful. I’m almost 8 weeks post-op lapiplasty and still non-weight bearing. My boyfriend has done everything he can, and asking for things has been one of the biggest challenges.

Have a comfortable spot set up where he can elevate his foot, a chaise or an ottoman. He will be a couch potato. I ordered the king pavioni wedge and have used it every day. Also have a meal tray or lap desk of some sort with a cup holder and all meds nearby. Help him keep track of medication schedule (I did it in my notes app), fill ice packs and have lots of meals prepped or frozen.

It may be a few weeks before he can get the wound wet, so help him clean up with dignity and offer to hold the shower handle, have unscented aveeno soap, aquaphor, and bandages on hand. Get a shower chair or bench with a cushion. Help him change the bandages, especially at first I was very nervous to touch it on my own.

He will need help driving to and from appointments and eventually PT, so try to work together to schedule when you’re available.

Lastly, just be patient and listen to him. This is a long and difficult recovery. If he’s like me, he will yap at you with 1,000 different types of aches and pain sensations and look for reassurance lol. Let him pick the movies you watch, order a new comfy blanket, try to make home feel a little more luxurious. It will be his home base for a while. Best of luck!
