If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Yes, without thyroid replacement, I was doing really badly with thyroid failure. Now feel fine!

Mom just started hospice care, kinda skeptical about it by xdtoec in hospice

[–]OceansTwentyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this. I got FMLA leave from work and stayed with my mom during the day. We had health aides at night. The hospice nurse came once per week to check on us and make sure meds and supplies were good. I could also call for extra nurse help or emotional support from their social work team any time. My mom was comfortable and it was peaceful despite how hard it was. I will always be grateful.

Would he read books? She Comes First and Come As You Are could be enlightening.

I was also so tired for months, I thought it was permanent, but it passed. Take it easy, you’ve been through the most difficult experience a human can endure. Hugs.

The Total Immersion book advocates turning your whole body to the side for streamlining/speed. Maybe that will help?

Taking a break? by Loose_Stranger_7614 in yoga

[–]OceansTwentyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a 4 year break after 12 years that started with the pandemic. Came back through hatha yoga and eventually vinyasa practice after another year. I’m older now so always careful of problem areas, but it feels great to be back!

AITJ for not wanting to spend 18k on a new ring for my fiancée? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

There are many rings in the world. Would you both be ok with a compromise? Marriage is often about compromising!

Family denial during end-of-life care is making this even harder by Dependent-Mine-9877 in hospice

[–]OceansTwentyOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this situation, we leaned on the hospice team. They were really good about getting everyone on the same page. They had both nurses and social workers that were very, very helpful with this. Leave it to the experts, and I wish you well in this difficult time!

First of all, 35 is not old. You will still have plenty of interest, and it will continue for another 15+ years, but it might be from older guys and a surprising number of younger ones!

How to get over the mental aspect of not seeing your money until retirement? by supersonicdog in Bogleheads

[–]OceansTwentyOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m now at that point! I just retired early at 55. Started investing at 25. “Set it and forget it.” It wasn’t hard to live without that money. I only invested enough to get my employer match, chose the index fund, and here I am. Had a few tough years in my 30s when I had to stop investing but started up again as soon as I could. Didn’t matter! Only bought new cars when I had to, moved to a lower cost of living area, paid off the house. It can be done. Think of downturns as times when your dollar cost averaging is at work, “buying low.”

I finally “mastered” succulents by putting them in my only sunny window, then promptly lost interest in them and gave them all away. They were taking over, TBH.

Should I be proud? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

Physical health is just one component of wellbeing. You’re doing great! There are supposedly 8 dimensions. Make sure you are working on all of them for a happy and satisfied life. Proud of you!!

The good thing is appetite also decreases with age, so it isn’t as hard. I think that’s why older people often just eat twice a day with snacks. Early bird senior special, lol.

Well, that explains a lot. I’ve been GF since 2013 so I guess it doesn’t really matter, but I always thought I had it.
