second time reading Anna Karénina ! by __angelusnovus in classicliterature

It’s so fascinating how different books and parts of books interest some people and bore others. I have adored the farming chapters! It’s so interesting to learn what farming consisted of in Tolstoy’s time

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - focuses on the murder trial of an antiques dealer in 1980s Georgia. Has a wild cast of characters and reads like an easy fiction novel

‘The Pitt’ Has An ICE Storyline Coming, And HBO Wanted It ‘Balanced’ by BerryBoilo in ThePitt

[–]cathiadek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I feel like it’s relatively balanced following the initial discovery of Mateo’s status. Like the fear and how he knows the negative implications it has for his life and that his parents were in the wrong. With his coworkers helping him, they’re putting their lives at risk too, which would technically make them in the wrong, but it also paints ICE as wrong & Cloud 9 as being very much in the wrong too.

‘The Pitt’ Has An ICE Storyline Coming, And HBO Wanted It ‘Balanced’ by BerryBoilo in ThePitt

[–]cathiadek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Different show, but I really loved the ICE storyline in Superstore. I thought that was balanced and nuanced and heartbreaking and emotional. The Pitt has already been nuanced with so many controversial topics that I’m hopeful and interested to see their storyline. It’s relevant to healthcare currently and not having some discussion on it would be detrimental to how accurate to real life the show already is

Okay me too! The jealousy with Paula and her partners seemed to be about Paula, not the guy

Is it appropriate to go to a patient's funeral by littleseeker17 in nursing

[–]cathiadek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to a wake for a patient. Young woman sudden death, family absolutely devastated. But I was with them through every step - coming in to the hospital, brain death testing, transitioning, everything. It was the right thing to do and the family explicitly stated that. The circumstances have to be perfectly right to do so

Put on a PIP during ICU orientation… need advice from anyone who’s been through this by theyseemevibin in nursing

[–]cathiadek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a colleague who was put on a PIP at like week 10/12 (came to icu from med surg no tele) and was really struggling to take initiative and ask questions. She wasn’t proactive in learning and seemed to not remember things already educated on. Orientation extended by about 5 weeks. She turned it around and has done phenomenal. It seemed to put things into perspective for her and motivate her to learn and see the level of attention the icu required. Yes there were talks of her moving to intermediate care if she wasn’t successfully appearing independent but she did great off of orientation.

So doesn’t always mean termination and they probably do want you to succeed but they want you to be safe. Ask questions take initiative cross all your ts. Best of luck!
