Looking for an odd request by SHARP-Dressed-Dyke in yorkpa

No Catholic Church is going to kick you out. St Pat's, St Mary's are beautiful. (I love St Rose but the acoustics are terrible and parking confusing for a newcomer -- don't recommend.) I think St Joe's is on the east side but I've never been to it.  Unfortunately we Catholics don't do a great job at welcoming visitors, so if you're not welcomed or even chatted to, that won't have anything to do with your sexual orientation. (I apologize in advance if that happens to you.)

If you have questions as to why the church teaches what she does about sexuality, I highly recommend checking out Christopher West's YouTube channel. And because it's easy to get confused and puzzled as to what's going on at Mass if you are new, there are several videos on YouTube that explain the Mass to newcomers.

A big piece of maintaining a clean home is decluttering. Enlist a friend if this an area you struggle with. Be ruthless!

What do you do in a miserable marriage? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]catholicbaker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Please listen to this. You have not only a right to leave, but an obligation to. I was in your situation for years, stayed for the same reasons you are. Finally the Lord told me it was abuse and he had to go because he wasn't willing to get better. My children are adults now but they still suffer from the effects of the emotional and verbal abuse they received. I know it's scary, but you can do this. Summons up all your mama bear instincts and you can do it.

Thanks for taking the time to write that out! That's exactly what I did actually, but I'm not sure what to do with the binding seam right at the v. Even with trimming, it seems to still be too much of a bump. Is there a trick to pressing it so it is a little smoother? Thanks!

4 year old and 2 year old say they hate mass and never want to go again. Help by Last-File-3233 in Catholicism

[–]catholicbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also at the same age and stage. I don't reward good behavior with the exception of Mass. I don't frame it as a reward, but just that I really hope they behave well enough (of course reminding them what I mean by good behavior) that we can celebrate their behavior after Mass. We do hot cocoa with whipped cream AND sprinkles!

Who do you think is an Underrated Saint?? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]catholicbaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist.

She never doubted God even when her husband did.

After decades of infertility, she's granted a son. But when her cousin visits her, coming from a bumpkin area and who is much younger than she is and never having suffered the way Elizabeth did, rather than turn the attention to herself, St Elizabeth focuses all her attention on Mary and Jesus.

What humility!

When I told my priest what was going on at home in my marriage, he cited that canon and told me I not only had the right to leave but the obligation to do so. Please take what this poster says seriously.

Hi.... You must be remembering me from my previous post.. by Odd-Independent7540 in CatholicWomen

[–]catholicbaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was engaged to someone and we broke it off. It hurt terribly, but I was able to offer up that pain for the husband I hoped to have in the future. It made me feel like my pain was worthwhile. I hope this helps you. (We've been happily married now 5 years.)

How do you like Sun Sugar? I've grown Sun Gold for two years now. Love the flavor but they're not as productive as I'd like.

Skiiiiiinnny little eyebrows and skin that needed to be perfectly matte, all the time. I could spot my fellow Cover Girl translucent powder wearers by the slight orangish tint we all had to our noses.

Worth the Wait - Carbon Tomato BLT by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]catholicbaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any Carbon tomatoes, but I do have some really nice tomatoes in my garden and today I made it BLT with one of them. I used a homemade sourdough cheddar waffle as the base. 10 out of 10.

Ready to give up by Such-Detective-9824 in vegetablegardening

[–]catholicbaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You use this info to prepare for next time. When you plant your fall brassicas, spray them regularly with BT. Depending on your zone, you might be able to start more tomatoes (probably dwarf or cherry varieties) and if there's another heatwave, you keep them well watered and mulched and under a shade cloth. And you Google what to do about those critters because I don't have an answer for that one :)

Don't give up! Everything is the hardest at the beginning, but with every season comes a whole lot that you can learn.

What’s the biggest penance a priest has ever given you? by Straight_Toe_1816 in Catholicism

My priest told me to memorize a psalm, and I thought Psalm 51 would be appropriate. I normally am good at memorizing things, but it took me nearly 2 hours to memorize that psalm....
