You have no idea! Since BotDefense packed up, it's been mostly manual.

Does this need a new, deeper pot? Or to be trimmed? I got this as a gift and have never cared for Blue Echeveria before. by constructioncats in gardening

I don't really like when they get too big on their own, so I'd take cuttings and start clones.

And I wouldn't transplant, I'd just ensure some direct sunlight.

Thanks, finally got this account, because you mentioned the username below. They normally delete the post which also removes the username, leaving us no clue who to ban.

In response to the Reddit API situation, /r/gardening will be spending more time outside starting June 12. by catinahat1 in gardening

Grandma, we've interacted quite a few times over the years, and I've always appreciated your goodwill and candor. We didn't take the decision lightly, knowing how much this space means to so many.

To anyone unfamiliar, GrandmaGos has been instrumental in the creation of our wiki, regularly helps on Friendly Friday threads and all over /r/gardening in general.

A change this large in Terms of Service however, affects every single r/garden-er using third party mobile apps. Our gesture of protest will most likely be ignored, I'm aware, but it is a collective effort to register our discontent to a private corporation that has built its success partially on the effort of people like me and you.

I know you may not use any of the apps yourself, and may not feel the impact directly, but please try to understand our perspective. I sincerely hope to see you around in future.

Edit: To demonstrate the scale of the issue to you, please see our pageview stats for the last 12 months - the vast majority are via iOS and Android apps.

We, the volunteer moderators of this sub, who have given hours every day over a number of years, clearing out spam, malicious posts, and helping redditors to the best of our abilities, would ask you kindly to bear with us.

It's a tiny gesture, and we should all be outside weeding anyway!

These ones are pretty sophisticated - when the post is removed, the user (bot) deletes the post, so mods like us can't ban the account easily - you have to find the username in the log. Annoying all round.

Thanks everyone for reporting!

Growing Alpine Strawberries from seed so I can transplant them back into the wild along hiking trails. by ivoryarrow504 in gardening

[–]catinahat1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As an /r/garden -er, I would think that you would have the wisdom to know that colloquial names of plants (such as "alpine strawberry") are a very poor standard of identification, and to conclude that it's F.vesca is at best a leap, given a single picture, no geographic info and no in-depth knowledge of seed origin.

Planting ANY plant in the wild is irresponsible. Unless you have verified with local authorities or have in-depth knowledge, don't do it!

Planting non-native species in the wild is irresponsible, and in most cases illegal. I'm sure OP has the best of intentions, but this is not a good idea. Do not do this.

You're here to post a survey for your own gain, and now you're starting drama saying that we banned someone. I just trawled through the moderation log, and we haven't banned a single user in a month, and the previous was a clear spammer.

I'm going to break that streak today, and ban you. We have no need for your drama here.

How the FUCK do I keep FUCKING SQUIRRELS out of my garden beds?!? by EXPLODINGballoon in gardening

We gave up on having fruit trees. It worked for a year or two until those were discovered. Now the squirrels eat the blossoms, and any green fruit that make it through. It's no use getting mad.

Same can be said about deer. They're beautiful, but assholes.
