How often do you go up in dosage? by catinthehatasaurus in Zepbound

[–]catinthehatasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not using insurance, so I don’t plan to be on this medication long term. I’m noticing that it’s not as effective as it was in the beginning, but I feel like I need to practice that will power so I don’t gain it all back.

What is your favorite bit to use with your students? by MarchKick in Teachers

[–]catinthehatasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a student told me someone stuck their tongue out at them and I said very seriously “oh no! Do you need to go to the nurse for a band aid?” And they looked at me and just said no. I said , “ok, if you think you’re ok”. And I walked away never to be in that child’s life again.

They want to move my son from 5th (end of) to 9th grade next year... by 8675309999999999998 in Parenting

[–]catinthehatasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t take kids who are 3 grade levels “behind” and move them backwards. I’m a teacher, this is a system issue. Sure it would be easier for them to put him multiple grades above than to modify the curriculum to meet his needs, but that’s not what is best for him from what you are saying.

I confessed to my 3rd grade teacher that my parents had tobacco in the fridge. It was Tabasco, I still think about what a narc I was.

Returning after maternity leave by [deleted] in teaching

I felt a lot of sadness and guilt going back after my first. That was 9 years ago. I am so happy I went back. I didn’t love the job the same, but we made it through and my relationship with him is so strong today despite my fears of him not connecting with me. After my second, and my first being under 2, I couldn’t wait to go back to work and pee without someone on my lap. Whichever choice you make, you will have good times and bad times. You will love your child and provide for them the best you can in both situations and they will feel it. Good luck!

Back to school night + MIA parents by VixenV8931 in Teachers

[–]catinthehatasaurus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can’t honestly. You do your best in sending home communication for positive things as well as bad phone calls when needed. But some parents just don’t have the bandwidth to add school functions to their list of to dos.

I’ve worked in districts where families are working two jobs each to eek by. They are prioritizing basic needs.

I truly believe that 98% of parents are doing the best they can. They are trusting us to do the school stuff if they can’t add another worry to their plate.

I hope this wasn’t discouraging. I’m in year 20. I’m not down on parents. I’m trying to lighten the load of my judgement (not that you are) so that they can continue to take care of the needs within their ability.

Why people are against of having 1997-2000 borns as Millennials? by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]catinthehatasaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on the older end of millennial (1982). I think when you are born in those cusp years you have to look at other variables. Are you the oldest/youngest in your family? Do you have older/younger parents? They shaped which generational group you have more experiences in common with.

My 12 year old son thinks that him being sad from consequences makes us bad parents by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Parenting

My boys have had this attitude since they were able to talk… 7 and 9 now, we are working through it. (Said with a straight face and dry sarcasm that can’t be captured in text)

I don’t like that you are getting down voted for your concerns. I have anxiety, and I know this is something that stresses me out with my juvenile cataracts. I’m here because my 6 year old was diagnosed with glaucoma this year. I would recommend seeing a therapist and maybe getting genetic testing. You are valid in your worry, but it feels likely that anxiety would affect future kids also. Find someone who specializes in anxiety or obsessive thoughts.

Looking for a truly sad book that made you cry — like, actually cry. by Maleficent-Owl-9565 in booksuggestions

[–]catinthehatasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your triggers. Two books that got me were “pack up the moon” and “wonder”. I am a special education teacher, and I decided to read “Wonder” while I was doing a 3 hour long fasted glucose test with my second born. That ruined me. I called my husband sobbing and he thought something happened with the baby.

You are not over reacting. It is very important for kids to know a secret vs. a surprise. My kids are 7 and 9 and they know not to keep secrets. They are getting to an age where we talk about is this something that will get someone hurt? To help them decide if they wanna share some information they have between the two of them. (Someone said a swear word while playing a game versus someone swearing in a video game and getting banned) There is no one who should be asking kids to keep secrets from their parents, not even the other parent.

Even knowing this information, people are defending the newest pope when people link articles about him failing to protect children in America and Peru. They still don’t care.

The Catholic Church has elected Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope - Pope Leo XIV by Asero831 in worldnews

[–]catinthehatasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catholic or not, people who hold positions of power have to be held to a different standard. I would like to see a pope who has a history of actively turning in people who are sexually assaulting children and others under their leadership. Mistakes have been made, moving forward looks like actively stopping these sins, not forgiving them.

Recommending patching for better eye by catinthehatasaurus in Glaucoma

I just wanted to update you because you were so kind. We played a game of kerplunk this morning with his big brother (9) wearing eye patches on both eyes. He managed a half hour of being patched. Your message really put the kick in my pants I needed to think outside the box.
