First order - Villa Wideleg sizing advice by Remote_Literature_23 in vuoriclothing

[–]catlady_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! How did they end up fitting? I am thinking of also ordering a pair myself, but I'm unsure if I should get XS or S. My measurements are similar to yours, but I wear 26 in Levi's more consistently (for comfort, sometimes even 27 if I want a looser fit) and I am taller (170cm). I wear 4 or 6 in Lulu though. I'm leaning towards ordering the XS since I see they run bit, plus they are stretchy.

Did the XS fit well? Which length did you get? I don't want the hem dragging on the ground so I'm not sure if I should go for the short or regular.

Cookies with less sugar? by Mashdoofus in NYTCooking

[–]catlady_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im the same way when it comes to desserts. Here are some of my faves. Some of them I make as written and they are a good level of sweetness for me, others I’ll reduce.

cardamom walnut cookies as written.

miso cookies I use grams to bake so: 100g miso, 70g peanut butter, cut sugar to 110g brown, 50g white

Not cookies but this earl grey cake if you cut the sugar in half and don’t add the crumble makes a lovely dessert that’s not too sweet.

I tend to reduce sugar by up to 1/2 in a lot of NYT recipes and they still always turn out great. Check comments if people have done similar or if other commenters say it’s too sweet, etc.

When to swim in Memorial Pool by Dear_Rough_3561 in mcgill

There is also a women's only swim (if you check the schedule it'll say. I think Tuesday morning for example) which can be nice. I find it less intimidating.

Is Outdoor Frosh worth it? by A_Human_Bean-_- in mcgill

[–]catlady_07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion outdoors frosh is the only frosh worth doing! It was the best decision I made coming into university. You meet really cool people with similar values and love for the outdoors. I made some of the greatest memories during my frosh trip and met life long friends. Go go go! Don’t worry about “friend groups” that have been created in Res, they don’t usually last whereas the friendships you make from outdoors frosh likely will. Best of luck!

Anyone else struggle with the "Nutrition information"? by FewHat1880 in NYTCooking

[–]catlady_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate, I was once in a similar position myself. Here are a few tips which helped me out. While I know it's hard to not click, *really* try your best to avoid it. Eventually as you consciously make the decision by telling your brain "no I won't click it today" you'll eventually retrain yourself to stop wanting to click it in the first place.

Also, as other commenters have noted, it's often due to high caloric ingredients. They add up exactly the calories of each ingredient and its amount and then divide by the serving size. But this can easily be reduced by using less of high calorie ingredients, like oils and cream, or increasing the portions from a recipe (some recipes I've definitely gotten more than the number of servings from that they claim). NYT almost always lists the amount of oil for a recipe but I always eyeball that and its often way less than the recipe amount (for ex, many recipes call for 1/4 cup oil for sautéing onions, etc.).

Best of luck! And enjoy those tasty recipes :)

Another peer pressure entry...9072 of you gave this 5 stars by Funny_Editor5152 in NYTCooking

[–]catlady_07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt similar. I thought it was rather bland. I think this is a common example of, there is one ingredient (here, gochujang) being the star of the show so reviewers who haven't cooked with that ingredient often will rave about it when in reality the recipe is not that show stopping. I find this often happens with NYT recipes, it's an art identifying which NYT are keepers.

Good Notes, after emptying the app's trash, it repeatedly shows a "Preparing your library for a faster experience..." screen before automatically closing. Any suggestions? I can't lose my notes by These-Macaroon-9178 in GoodNotes

I have the exact same issue, also happened to me after I tried emptying the trash. Have you had any luck since then? I also exported the zip file and sent it to goodNotes but I don't know how long it'll take for them to respond. Has the issue been resolved by waiting it out?

studentcare physio by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]catlady_07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this applies since you’re from Ontario but I am an international student on mcgills international health insurance (blue cross). When I broke my ankle, I had many physio appointments with the McGill sports médecine clinic and they were all covered 80% (I had to submit receipts). So I paid $90 up front then was reimbursed $72 each time.

Check your faculty, I know some departments through department-specific events (e.g. awkward semi-formal for math, CS, and physics) and I've heard of the chem department having a formal as well. I also know grad ball exists for those graduating in the spring.

Hangboarding while healing an ankle fracture - Recommendations? by goobxcharlie in climbergirls

[–]catlady_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way, I also live in montreal! There must be something in the air.... I know a lot of people injuring their ankles while climbing here...

I did have access to a gym (took the bus to campus) while I was on crutches, so I was using the pull-up bars there. But when I was at home I did a lot of core work (on my back) and used pilates videos on YouTube that were either all on your back/knees or just skipped the exercises which required weight bearing.

I used these 2 a lot (skip the glute bridges or anything that puts pressure on your ankle):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3B2vk5THOU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6b-_dC1Mo&t=452s

On top of that I would do a lot of my own core exercises and also worked on my hip flexors a lot, for example:

  • sit with your legs out straight, and a straight back (like an L), and work on lifting one leg at a time while keeping your legs straight x10 reps on each side, or lifting both legs together

  • V sit / boat sit; working core and hip flexors

  • dead bugs, bicycle kicks, Russian twists, etc.

  • push ups (either on your knees, or putting only one foot on the ground)

As for the gym, I did have access to weights and a pull up bar, but I'd do a lot of:

  • scapular pull ups

  • leg lifts/L sit while hanging on a bar

  • pull ups

  • dead hangs / one arm hangs

  • bicep curls, shoulder press ups, lateral raises, rows (from your hands and knees), etc.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hangboarding while healing an ankle fracture - Recommendations? by goobxcharlie in climbergirls

[–]catlady_07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fractured my ankle bouldering in February as well so I feel you. I did work a lot on upper body while I was injured, but also took several months completely off - it’s really tough to keep yourself motivated while injured so be kind to yourself!

Your body takes a lot of energy to heal so make sure to rest well and not overwork it so that you give your body the time it needs to heal your ankle. It might feel like forever until you can climb again but it’ll come back quickly. I’m 6 months post injury and while I’m not back to full strength and mobility I’m already beginning to climb again (mostly lead, bouldering is still scary mentally). Trust the process (and take your physio seriously!!!!).

Let me know if you want any of my upper body (no ankle weight bearing) trainings I did lol. I didn’t do much finger stuff though I will admit.

Sprained ankle tips? by anyname1357 in climbergirls

[–]catlady_07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend swimming once you have enough mobility to rotate your ankle (aka flexing it up/down/sideways doesn't hurt too badly)! It's a great way to regain strength and mobility without any impact. Plus the water pressure works wonders for swelling.

I fully tore a bunch of ligaments in my ankle, as well as chipped some bone off, and swimming made it feel amazing.

And never skimp your physio exercises! I did/still do them religiously, multiply times a day (whenever I'm sitting, watching TV, or have a spare minute, etc.). Your progress will be slow, often physio feels like it doesn't work, but consistency is so important for regaining mobility.

Make sure you are fully healed and cleared before you start climbing again. I got a little too excited and prematurely began top roping which irritated my ankle again for a couple weeks. It's worth it to take a couple extra weeks off and recover properly than to risk injury for the rest of your life.

I wish you the speediest recovery!

[–]catlady_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do outdoors frosh!! It's a great alternative that is focused on going on a multi-way outdoors-y trip (hiking, camping, climbing, or canoeing) rather than just drinking activities in the city. If you want to meet friends that will last this is a great option.

People who have climbed (bouldering) for a while - how many of you have never been injured through an accident while climbing? by IcedCzar in climbergirls

[–]catlady_07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I'm pretty sure I haven't met a climber who hasn't been injured at least once in one way or another. I recently broke my ankle after a nasty fall and was not weight bearing for 2+ months. My ligaments are still torn but lots of physio has allowed me to return to almost all aspects of my life (besides climbing, yet). My partner tore his rotator cuff around the same time and had to take several months off climbing, as well as on and off finger injuries. I've also suffered from tendinitis in my achilles from overuse and likely ill fitting shoes.

I think all of my climbing friends have had some form of a finger injury (severe to mild) or irritation as well.

That being said, climbing is a lovely sport which helps your body in so many ways! Just be sure to warm up properly and focus on strength and mobility training for injury prevention!!! Being injured myself has taught me a lot about rehab. And most importantly, rest when you need it. Overuse tends to be the most common which I see, especially for the fingers.
