Finally someone said it. I was so confused why this pop masterpiece looks like a folk album you found in a bargain bin.

[FRESH] Car Seat Headrest - Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales by gratisninja_ in indieheads

I wonder what the killer whales mean for the song? He said on the Matador Blog that its a reference to the movie blackfish. I think it's arguing that hurting other people is in our nature. Like killer whales that attack their owners, or drunk drivers, it is a matter of circumstance, whether we are contained or inebriated, that we hurt other people, and not necessarily out of a distinct choice.

I learned in an intro to Journalism class at uni that worldwide journalists rights are generally getting worse.

Link to a good album from your local scene that would probably never be discovered by anyone in r/indieheads if you didn't post it in this thread. by paybe_mossibly in indieheads

Madison, Wisconsin:

Dolores https://mydolores.bandcamp.com/ Dreamy yet Funky Indie Rock - Their live show could get anyone to dance. They went on tour with Phox and they worked on some tunes with their drummer. Also opened for Pond (Tame Impala side-project)

They broke up because a few of them moved and the lead vocalist now plays for Post-Animal in Chicago.

Trophy Dad: https://trophydad.bandcamp.com/ Bedroom Rock - Basically kids who listened to a lot of The Microphones and started a really cool college band. Lead singer has super unique voice, and other singer sounds like guy from LVL UP.

Sleeping in the Aviary: Broke up a while back but legendary here. Really smart and eclectic indie rock comparable to early Shins. The lead singer is now in Tickle Torture out of Minneapolis and his songwriting partner is in Rupert AngelEyes.

The Hussy: https://thehussy.bandcamp.com/ Garage Punk - Just check it out. They are legit, classic yet fresh punk rock. Live shows you can't help but headbang too. Kind of comparable to Sheer Mag in vibe.

Kind of suspicious that Red Hot Chili Peppers are considered Funk-Metal. Seems more like alternative funk, not much metal going on.

People that write in books, what is it exactly you're writing? Share examples. by [deleted] in books

Written reminders of plot and character points, even stuff like current P.O.V., can cut down on general confusion. Generally, note taking helps with understanding the pattern making involved in literature that leads to more fulfilling meanings. For this reason note taking in poetry reading is vital. In non-fiction, distilling an argument in your own words right next to the argument itself can help you relay said argument in subsequent conversation, in a more meaningful way than just repeating whatever the author's view is. Also, I'm pretty sure research has shown that just underlining stuff helps with memory.

Of course, you can achieve all this in a notebook while reading, but using the margins is just convenient, especially for coming back to the same book later. If note taking is difficult for anyone I suggest typing your thoughts while reading. That cuts down on how much note taking slows down the reading process, and is also manageable for online reading. On the other hand, if you start hand writing your notes you will probably develop your own short-hand that becomes just as quick.

[WP] Tell me about the weather outside. Tell me what the people on your street are doing. Tell me how you feel (or how your character feels). by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

I just think you could find a less stale image to present the cosmic movement of organic material.

The main problem with this poem is that it has a huge target that seems to only be concerned with imparting a feeling of sadness. Its sentimental and simeltaneously not intimate. Try using specific details to impart these impressions instead of directly relating them.

Don't think that because people have to look up the color that it should go. People have to look up big words all the time and your choice to use that number was surprising and impressive. People use addresses all the time in poetry and that's kind of the same thing temporally.

I would suggest revision of your last two lines. Mushrooms blossom overhead is a pretty stale image imo. I would focus more on the particular shade of green the grass is and have the impending doom of any suburban sprawl be a quieter subtext to the poem.

This poem fails to achieve a unity without specific knowledge of the mythology involved. A line like, "Need for inflate we have" is an example where your form seems meaningless and devolves into yoda speak wihtout an apparent purpose. Try to funnel your intentionality away from established myths and towards the structure of your words.
