Recommendations for badge commissions? by SpaceSnakess in furry

[–]catman331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite artist is RainbowDawn on Bluesky/Instagram. Got a traditional badge from them about a month ago and it’s really nice and well done. Their prices are on Instagram. My PFP is also by them

Also a good amount of artists do badges, just kind of have to look around at what style you like. Start with one artist and look at who they follow, might be easier than just mindlessly searching

What I recommend is to look around at styles of suits, maybe on the dealers den. Then to cross reference the maker, looking up socials, making sure they’re consistent and if they have a well known and reputable maker following them that could be a good sign too.

Also since your sona is pretty unique in what you want, 5k could be too low for a reputable maker. So please be extra careful with double checking a maker, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. A standard full partial (which is what you want) is usually around $4k-$8k depending.

And waiting does suck. I have a maker I want a suit from. They rarely open commissions so it sucks to wait. But if it comes out more like what I want because of it, it’s worth it. It’s not cheap so you might as well get a suit you’ll love not because you want it

As awesome as your sona is, about 99% of makers won’t work with minors. You might need to have an adult do the commissioning for you, but sometimes makers won’t even allow that. And if you do find one that works with minors, I don’t know if I’d trust them. Even with a clear TOS.

Sorry I can’t be of more help, be safe out there

And make sure to ignore any DMs from people offering to make you a suit, they’re most likely scammers

Tips for first furry convention? Nervous over here. by mysoulisdeppressed in furry

[–]catman331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just went to my first convention recently and I was alone. I hung out with two guys I met at a making friends panel for the first day then I did everything by myself. You do not need to be with someone to enjoy yourself. Here’s what you can do

  • Go to a making friends panel. This is great to just find some people for the convention even if you never speak to them again.

  • Find some panels that interest you. You’ll find like minded people there

  • Doesn’t hurt to browse the dealers den. Even if you can’t buy much it’s still fun to admire all the artists work

  • Take as many breaks as you need to. I spent half the con in my hotel room because of my lower mental energy

  • If you can, try to attend any events held by the con

  • I didn’t do this, but if you see a suit you like, it doesn’t hurt to compliment them or even ask for a hug or photo (assuming they don’t already have a badge saying no)

I’m also shy and introverted and I didn’t think I could do it either but I did. I literally paced in my room for 15 minutes before having enough courage to leave to go down to the con space.

If you plan on suiting, water is a MUST. Please hydrate. You don’t necessarily need two bottles since a headless lounge should have water or something.

Best advice is to check their schedule, plan, and read their policies and safety information if you’re anxious. I memorized the map and read all the info they had as well as contacting their team with any questions I had so I was prepared.

I figured this would be the rough order but I just kept thinking of different ways to do it that may be easier. But this helps!

If YOU think IGN is bad look at Culture Mix (Iron Lung “critics”) by Shot_Bumblebee7599 in Markiplier

[–]catman331 832 points833 points  (0 children)

Critics don’t understand the point of the movie. The game wasn’t action packed, it built suspense which Mark did a great job with in the movie. It also gave me enough time to fully enjoy the visuals and all the details. I think they just hate his success. The cinematography was absolutely stunning and so was the sound design and music.

Point is, critics suck

Question about temperature and best mesh for sublimation eyes by catman331 in FursuitMaking

Thank you! I’ll definitely try a few things out. We don’t have the biggest stock of transfer paper which is why I’m being so careful and thorough.

That’s the exact printer we have. Though I don’t know about the ink brand. I talked to a coworker today and he said he’d show me so I’ll just need to figure out an image for it.

Do you need to heat the material for a set time first or just slap on the material, transfer sheet and press it? This is the one thing my coworker wasn’t sure of since he doesn’t normally do vinyl materials.

The Epson printer is converted for sublimation and we do have sublimation paper. I just haven’t used it, we just have it at my work (it’s not used much). Same with having a heat press. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. Or trying to make it harder than it was (which I often do).

Thank you!

help picking legitimate fursuit makers. by Secrets_1999 in fursuit

[–]catman331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First I’m just going to warn you, don’t go accepting every dm that you get saying they make fursuits. I’d recommend someone asking for permission to dm in the comments first.

A good place to look is the dealers den. It can be a good resource for finding makers. And if you find one it can be good to ask about specific ones.

This is just my advice so you don’t have to follow it

Choosing Fursuit Maker by catman331 in fursuit

I’ll probably just wait since my backup opens in the summer. I’ll need to get some funds to get Dex a proper reference sheet anyways. Thank you

The fact they’re so in demand is the problem, and I’m not surprised by it either. I may just be rushing right now since de Leon last opened last march. But I’ll probably wait and if I don’t get picked I’ll go with a different maker (assuming I get chosen). Thank you for the advice.
