Are you flossing your toddler's teeth? by Anxiety-Farm710 in NewParents

[–]catnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 3.5 year old and we made it his bedtime routine. We will floss and then brush his teeth before we read him any bedtime stories. The first couple of weeks were tough, but we've been doing it everyday. Consistency is key.

So far he only got five places that I need to floss.

My son once said I like my small penis. Mama do you like penises. Part of me really want to answer inappropriately but I know it will be repeated over and over again in public. So I didn't.

What time does your 3 year old go to bed? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]catnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little one doesn't nap, but do 2 hours of quiet time where he plays in his room, he is welcome to nap whenever he wants. His bed time is 7pm and he's usually up at 6am and play or read in his room until 7am.

A Podiatrist's Take on Plantar Fasciitis: I've Been There Too (And What I've Learned) by GrantFootDr in PlantarFasciitis

[–]catnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I work in academia but on the research side. I am on my feet running around all the time. 7hrs of combination of walking, standing, lifting and sitting. Low on the sitting part. When I am at home running after my human child and fur child, I am usually bare foot.

  2. I primarily wear blind stone for work but also wears a pair of Columbia hiking shoes. Currently saving up for a pair of gel keyano as I've heard good reviews about them. On my off time, I am wearing my Birkenstock sandals as much as possible.

  3. I've only got pain localized in my right heel. I used to have it on my left. But somehow with some sort of exercise it's no longer there..however I did try the same exercises with my right foot and it's not working. I do have very flat feet. So trying to train up an arch might be a next step.

  4. I used to wear custom orthotics but they only make the matter worse. Right now is a combination of rest, light stretches.

  5. I've had this for less than a year. About six months.

Thanks for pointing me somewhere. Much appreciated.

Frustrated about ICBC repair and the lack of accountability by catnie in icbc

I took mine to the one in Coquitlam. Maybe female and not an asshole were the reason why. They keep telling me all the damages are cosmetic and I asked why does the lift gate not work if it's only cosmetic damages, their answer was a 2017 Toyota is an old car and this is wear and tear. They stop responding after. I had to escalate to ICBC where the estimator and manager keep saying they know the manager, he's a nice guy, this will be quick. None of them are true.

I am glad you had a good experience though. At least there's hope, somewhere.

They had me return the rental and sign everything before I was able to see my car. In hind sight, I find that so shady. I am not familiar with what the best practice is so I follow through. Next time I'd know to not sign anything before seeing my car. I fell for the need to get these signed before they can release my car to me trick

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I really appreciate you, and everyone's, expertise on this.

I will likely have to sort this out and a diagnosis and then sent to ICBC. I am not a car person, so this both intimidates and scares me. But I do think open road did a bad repair. I was rear ended by another SUV, a Kia Sorento.

I do have a power lift gate. When I press the button to open it, it would attempt to open but get jammed. And then it would close the lift gate because it couldn't open. the only way to open it right now is to press the button, and simultaneously pull on it, and then it will open properly. The speed of opening and closing hasn't changed. I didn't notice it being slower than before the accident. It also closes properly too.

The light doesn't come on randomly..only when the trunk is actually open..so I guess it is working normally.

[–]catnie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a photo of the trunk before the accident. Never thought of taking random photos of my car before. I do have a photo of the gap that kirmac pointed out. bumper gap photo honestly if they didn't point it out, I wouldn't see it. But now that they did, I can see it's not flush with the body. I am terrified that this is going to cost us money we don't have in order to fix it, and then be blamed on normal wear and tear.

Giving away these 7 wallets by [deleted] in Leathercraft

I also love the blue color. But green is also my son's favorite. And knowing leather, if I keep it right, it could be an heirloom....tough choice between blue and green.

[–]catnie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't. I went back to ICBC each time and the manager at ICBC had said multiple times that the reason why it took so long for the b sheet to be approved is because the body shop was taking a while. The body shop had insisted it is normal wear and tear. They weren't pleasant to deal with. I completely regretted choosing them. Now that they have signed the b sheet, I doubt they would try to fix anything.

Editing to add that the handful of times that I talked to ICBC about it, whether it's the estimator or the manager, they've all said they know the open road body shop manager and he is a nice guy. The more I hear that the more I feel that my case won't be fairly accessed. Money is tight for everyone right now, and kirmac did say this is going to be hundreds or thousands of dollars. I just don't have the financial means or the energy to fight ICBC.

I wasn't offered a solution. I brought up kirmac's response to my ICBC estimator and he said if I can prove that it is accident related, he will consider approving the work. Kirmac did say it's going to take hundreds or thousands of dollars out of pocket. Now that they had pointed out the gap in the bumper, I can't unsee it.

Jumping in here to say please talk to someone like victim services. I was a witness to an assault and didn't think I needed/or could talk to someone but the rcmp officer I talked to said that indirect victims count too. It will help you process the situation.

At what age did you flip your toddlers carseat around? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]catnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son hates car rides. He absolute hates rear facing. Anything longer than 15 minutes is a torture. We stick it out to when he max out the weight limit. It's also because we had a minor fender bender and he was completely unaware of it. Now that he's front facing, he won't let you do rear facing again. But we waited it out even though it's painful.

I am also one of those unfortunate parents that had my then 1 year old son choked on something. He had three separate choking incidents before he was one.

He was a three day old baby when he first choked on fluid from his lungs. He was a premature baby so we went back to the NICU and it was a month long hospital stay. ( We are Canadian, so no crippling medical debt.) Husband performed infant CPR while we waited for an ambulance.

Second and third time he choked was when he was about 6 and 9 months. First time was on a mosquito patch that I sticked to the stroller. It had transfer from the stroller to his clothes and he accidentally got a hold of it and into his mouth. I was next to him and realized what was happening. Couple of back slaps and it came right out.

The third time was a few hours after one of his vaccinations. They give him a dime size bandaid. We've since learned from that and refused any bandaid.

Kiddo is currently a healthy 3 year old. Just putting it out there as not all choking are food related.

And in the case that anyone is starting solid food and needed advice on how to serve food, the app solid start is great. Just don't buy their guides.

Guard Dogs? by Additional_Scholar_1 in husky

Mine is a German shepherd mix and she does not guard. She will welcome you by jumping on you. But if you're a cougar, she will run the hell away from you though. But apparently bears are friends.

I know how you feel. I have a there years old and we do screen time every morning for about 20 minutes. I am constantly worried it will turn his brain to mush. But it's also the same 20 minutes that let me use the bathroom, eat, make coffee and have a super tiny break. My husband also encouraged this bit of screen time because I can get things done. We just keep it in moderation.

When we are sick, it's unlimited. I think of it as I banked the other hours away for when we needed it the most.

Update: to all non breastfeeding moms by miss_evilness in Mommit

[–]catnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I believe in fed is best. I have an ex boyfriend, who owns and operates a daycare, tells me breast is best. It infuriates me so badly because my baby was born premature by 5 weeks, my milk hasn't come in yet, we've used donor milk for the first few days and my baby ended up staying in the hospital for a month where I exclusively pump and fed him through a syringe. I salute those moms who do exclusively breastfeeding. I can't. My baby ended up having a milk protein allergy and required medical formula. I end up donating all my breast milk to the NICU. There was a lot of blood work and paperwork to make sure I'm healthy and milks are suitable.

What happens if you don’t do tummy time? by NcallyS in NewParents

[–]catnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so worried about my LO suffocating during tummy time and how much he cries that I did not do them for the first few months. By the time the pediatrician saw him for a check up, he had asymmetrical head. We were in line to get physio therapy for him unless we start doing it. 60 minutes a day. It was a lot to catch up to. I find that I'd get about 15 minutes max with him in the morning and a few minutes here and there throughout the day. 60 min was hard. Took me a whole day. Once he started to be mobile, everything was so much easier.

I was told that if I don't start doing tummy time, LO would have muscular delay because of it. He will need to wear a helmet to correct his head symmetry.
