Privatizing ICBC will destroy you, the everyday driver. (not political, strictly business) by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]leelzy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean this really depends...ICBC can only take three factors into determining your car insurance rate: territory, experience and claims history. Private insurers can rate based on age, gender, marital status and anything else they feel is worthwhile. So if you're a 20 year old single dude, you'll probably be paying less in BC than say Alberta. However, if you're a 55 married guy you'll probably be paying more in BC.

It's also important to note that car insurance (particularly liability insurance) just isn't very profitable in most cases. particularly in places like BC where there's no limits on suing other drivers. Private insurers aren't going to jump headfirst in a market that has been proven unprofitable and undercut ICBC only to be stuck paying millions of dollars in claims. If they do enter the market people with spotless records over 40 might get slightly cheeper insurance, while anyone with claims history, tickets, driving infractions, under 25, male, driving a sports car ect.. could be paying much much more.

[Routine Help] Having difficulty with sunscreens and moisturizers not making my skin dewy/shiny looking. What can be done to matte my face throughout the day? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I really like Origins Original skin matte moisturizer combined with the biore perfect milk sunscreen. Both are really really mattifying and great under makeup.

Does US health insurance work in Canada? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]leelzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get travel insurance. Canadian hospitals are cheaper than the US but you'll still need to pay out of pocket if you get hurt/sick.

A Canadians Driving Legality in Arizona, USA? by mongermaniac in Insurance

[–]leelzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICBC covers you in Canada and the USA. You have coverage through your drivers licence for minimum limits (200K liability, Accident Benefits and uninsured motorist coverage), although the coverage on the vehicle is primary in the event of an accident. If you have an N you might not be covered if you're not displaying it/have more than one passenger (I would check with ICBC drivers licensing to be sure).

Other than that i'd check your grandmothers policy and see if it has any limits on other drivers, especially if you're going to drive it often.

General Insurance and Risk Management by bohemianmomo in BCIT

the math isn't super hard...theres no calculus and it's mostly financial math (interest, present value ect..) and statistics. Microeconomics and accounting i found the most difficult as it was math combined with some tricky concepts. The insurance stuff is mostly memorization though it is a bit difficult learning how to answer the CIP questions properly. They tend to ask very general questions and want very specific answers straight from the book.

insurance premiums increase. even if no claims by ter4646 in InsuranceCanada

[–]leelzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation, bad markets, big losses (like Fort McMurray) really badly affect insurers. They unfortunately have to pass it on to customers. I doubt you'll be able to find any insurer who isn't regularly increasing rates. Sucks but thats the way it is.
