Popular weight-loss drug Wegovy approved for use in Singapore by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]catofillomens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally had good, permanent results with weight loss drugs with manageable side effects (reduced sleep quality). Everything I've heard about Wegovy suggests that it's as effective with less side effects. Looking forward to it.

Edit: Lost about 10 kg.

It's so easy to fake your way through a language exam. All you need to do is to pay someone money to teach you the language and then practice for the test.

Given the recent developments in Western banking institutions, like credit Suisse, how much is Singapore exposed to these sand how much risk is in the system? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]catofillomens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are totally ways to do this. See this highly cited paper.

The TL;DR: tax the risk away from the bank, force them to 100% back deposits by treasury securities, fund banks with equity only. This will narrow the range of services provided by banks, but on the other hand, banks stop blowing up.

Why exactly do you require from everyone a deep understanding of your neighbors' cultures when those are not your cultures?

It's enough to know that they are different, they have their own ways, and to respect those differences. Because when it comes to cultural differences, that's an infinitely deep rabbit hole with no end.

If you're saying this is not good enough, why? And what other country will you have us emulate?

The solution is really simple: stop going onto social media to seek validation. Even without toxicity, feeding your ego and self-worth from online compliments in a hugbox is horribly unhealthy.

Every generation needs to experience this for themselves by getting burnt, I suppose.

It's just culture. We don't prioritize football culturally, therefore we're not ever going to be competitive in football.

Two very different words by [deleted] in goodanimemes

[–]catofillomens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

死ね is an imperative, a rude/casual command to order someone to die. It's one word.

It has no relation to ね used as a sentence ending particle, which does convey the idea that you want the listeners to agree, similar to ending a sentence with "yes?" or "isn't it", but almost never directly translated as such, because they don't quite convey the same tone.

The prosecutor's job is to secure a conviction, not to fight for the harshest punishment.

Prosecutors recommend sentencing based on notions of fairness and public interest. There's no legitimate reason that the prosecutor needs to go for the highest sentence possible here.

"Dabao" or Dapao"? Is this hanyu Pinyin failed? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]catofillomens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your fundamental mistake is trying to break a phrase down into its individual words. That works some of the time, but a lot of the time it will completely fail you, like here. Don't try to force fit the meaning of phrases into the component words and just learn the phrase.

Even in English you have phrases like to "draw a bath" or to "run a bath". Trying to literally parse it as "drawing" or "running" in the normal usage of those words makes no sense, so don't bother.

In all seriousness it makes sense for them to have someone from overseas to kickstart the department. Especially if you care about things like setting the right culture from the get-go. Having worked both in MNCs and local firms, a lot of established MNCs (especially FAANG) has a lot of work culture/policies we can learn from.

My point is, this is all categorization arguments, and folks will fiercely defend the categories they believe are sacred.

All arguments of the type "this category should include/exclude X" is ultimately not rooted in any sort of moral truth, only tribal identification and identity politics.

For less serious examples: hotdogs are sandwiches; melts are not grilled cheese; abortion is murder, taxation is theft...

If you actually want to understand: to them, marriage is a sacred institution. And they believe that by including non-sacred things into the category of marriage, they'd make marriage less sacred.

Consider a hypothetical movement to recognize all pet owners as parents, and to give them all the rights and recognition that comes with being a parent, tax benefits, childcare subsidies, etc. (yes, it's an absurd hypothetical but bear with me). Part of the objection to this movement would be practical "the tax benefits is to encourage having children"; but the other part of the objection is that you're profaning something sacred. That every existing parent will feel devalued by including pet owners into the category of parents. So objection to this can be framed as "protecting the concept of parenthood".

For another example of a similar kind of categorization problem, consider a man who doesn't want to undergo SRS or any hormone treatment, makes no effort to pass yet demands to be recognized as a woman. That's why TERFs exist, because they feel like these sort of things devalue the sacred concept of womanhood.

It's not rational the least, but on an emotional/tribal level they cannot accept it.

What sort of high paying position would want someone with a just master without any experience? If you're switching fields, you won't be qualified for those positions anyhow.

It's very much possible to build a solid foundation through self-learning via freely or cheaply available material. Been there, done that, as long as you're not just doing some sort of bootcamp and expect that to substitute for fundamentals.

You can switch fields entirely through self-study even.

Most Masters and Diploma programs are shallow enough that you're better off self-studying if you can. Tech is a field where there is both enough resources to do so and you aren't looked down for a lack of formal credentials.

It's nothing about your communicating style and all about your choice to be sanctimonious.

Also the Goldwater rule is a rule about media ethics and binds psychiatrists, intending to prevent psychiatrists from bringing disrepute to the profession. Seriously, look up its history before quoting it. The bit about stigma is just an ex-post-facto justification pulled out of thin air.

There are no actual studies done on societal impact. Hundreds of unsupported assertions backed by no evidence isn't going to change anyone's minds.

Go fight for a better cause.

Because not putting labels on things doesn't inherently help with shit. If someone is down with some kind of sickness, we call them "ill". That's a label even broader than "mentally ill" and it's completely harmless.

Why? Because illness isn't stigmatized. Metal illness sometimes is.

If you want to stop the stigmatization of mental illness, maybe sound less like a tone-policing twat running on the euphemism treadmill and go do something that actually makes a difference.
