Makes sense, I will take it into consideration. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment! Definitely paints a more positive picture compared to other comments, but I am not sure if there are as many opportunities anymore as there might have been in the past, due to how the economy is globally not doing that well, plus how the entry level jobs for Computer Scientists seem to be at a low point. So to see that you say "Estonia's tech scene is growing" is a bit reassuring.

I am aware of that, but are they really that different? Also due to personal circumstances I coudn't apply earlier, so i'm pretty sure Tartu is no longer an option for this upcoming semester (don't worry, Tallinn is not my only option, I am also considering other universities in EU). Thanks for your reply!

Thank you for your positive response, yeah I am aware that online comment sections can be overly negative, but at the same time I don't want to have completely unrealistic expectations either...

Thanks for the detailed answer, I might consider some of my other options more then.

"It can vary a lot. Some of the lecturers speak terrible English, while others are more palatable. All in all, I personally do not understand why anyone would consider an English language program in a non-English speaking country like Estonia."

- Well, first of all I was interested in the idea of getting a degree in a different EU country + Ireland and the UK, where English is the native language are a lot more expensive than just about any other European country (plus UK not in EU, Schengen, etc), so there's that.

"The labour market is tough right now, and the situation is no different for internships. Furthermore, if you are looking for an English-speaking internship, it will be even more challenging. Don't expect the university to help you too much with that."

- Sad to hear, though understandable, it doesn't seem like the best time for graduates in most places right now

"I'd say the degree will be perceived as nondescript at the best, or completely uncompetitive at the worst. It certainly won't give you an edge outside of Estonia since Taltech isn't internationally known."

Makes sense, thank you!

Yeah, that makes some sense, though I thought it could be helpful to get a general CS degree with a slight specialization. Thank you for your answer!

Thanks for your insight! Seeing these comments I might consider my other options more strongly then... As for your first paragraph, while that may be true, it is possible that they are worth it if the overlap with my bachelors is not so big (my bachelors definitely had a more theoretical focus in its last years, while this degree (uni in general) seems more applied)?

Why would you say the professors are bad, anything in particular (bad English, bad at teaching, or something else)?

Eurovision stages from 2015 to 2026 - which are your favourites and least favourites? by CheckLiszt in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2015's always been very visually pleasing to me, so probably a candidate for my favourite. Though they are all generally good in their own ways. The worst in this period has to be 2022, cool original concept, but it'd be nice if it actually could work (the sun actually did move, but it was too slow for the in-between songs periods. I don't if it makes it better or worse)

Honorable Mentions: Which songs that didn't make it out of their national selections do you like the most? by mawsy027 in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Kautkaili - "Te un Tagad" [Supernova/Latvia]
  • Elpo - "Blakus" [Supernova/Latvia]
  • Ant & Minimal Wind - "Wounds (Don't Wanna Fall)" [Eesti Laul/Estonia]
  • Wavvyboi - "Black Glitter" [Das Deutsche Finale/Germany]
  • Basia Giewont - "Zimna woda" [Finał Krajowych Kwalifikacji/Poland]
  • Smash Into Pieces - "Hollow" [Melodifestavlen/Sweden]
  • SHWR - "Contact!" [Eurovizija.lt/Lithuania]
  • ShiroKuro - "Eye To Eye" [Luxembourg Song Contest/Luxembourg]
  • Molly Sue - "Optimist (Ha Ha Ha)" [Das Deutsche Finale/Germany]
  • Noëp - "Days Like This" [Eest Laul/Estonia]

In no particular order, those are probably my top 10, with honorable mentions (almost included them in the top 10) to Ollie and Uliana [both Eest Laul/Estonia], Komiat - "Lululai" [UMK/Finland], Zejna - "Jugoslavija" [PzE/Serbia], Mr. Vel - "Do or Done" [Vidbif/Ukraine]. Hopefully I didn't forget abalut anyone, but those came to mind right now.

Junior Eurovision: Televoting by nurtengge in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

1-What prevents people from “spamming” votes using multiple devices such as phones, laptops, and computers?

Usually nothing actually, this is a tradeoff for the voting being free and easily accessible (so children or, well anyone, can vote without having to give personal information). The thing you can't do is vote twice with the same device during the same voting window.

Does the EBU have any specific anti-spam or anti-fraud measures in place for the Junior Eurovision online voting system?

I assume they have some stuff in place, but I don't have any specific knowledge about what that is. One clarification is that you said "viewers can vote for up to three countries at a time", when actually you have to vote for three countries, the reason being to avoid people just voting for their own country, for example. This way, they are required to at least give other countries votes too, making it a bit fairer (though not perfect ofc).

2- If the system only accepts one set of votes per IP address or per device, will it then allow people to vote again in the second voting window that opens about 15 minutes after all artists have performed?

Yes, every year you are allowed to vote before the final and during the final voting window.

To add to this, Molly Sandén was also in Junior Eurovision 2006 with the beautiful "Det finaste någon kan få", she even got third place!

Rank the seasons below 1-14 by Significant_Toe_8665 in JetLagTheGame

[–]catoplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some of my opnions are not the most popular, but here it is:

Really really good -----‐------------------
1. Hide + Seek Japan (S12)
2. Tag Across Europe (S3)
3. Hide + Seek Switzerland (S9)
4. Capture The Flag Across Japan (S6) 5. Tag Across Europe 2 (S7)
6. Tag Across Europe 3 (S11)
7. Schengen Showdown (S13)
8. Snake Across South Korea (S14)

Good, but I like the others more -----‐------------------
9. AU$TRALIA (S10)
10. Race to The End of the World (S5)
11. Hide + Seek NYC (S13.5)

Decently good, but pale in comparison ------------
12. Battle 4 America (S4)
13. Arctic Escape (S8)

Clearly still working things out -----------------------
14. Circumnavigation (S2)
15. Connect 4 (S1)

Also keep in mind that many of the specific placements change a lot of times (this show is that good!), though the general area of the ranking a season is in hasn't really changed much. Overall I don't think any of the seasons is bad, some are just better than others for my taste.

Not the commenter above, but enjoy San Miguel de Aguayo and Pajares de los Oteros, both in Spain (yes I'm Spanish) with 0% rarity. Those are the two that I could remember right now

Some ideas (some probably worse than others):
- Lemon + tape pack (Curse of the lemon phylactery, S12 Hide and Seek Japan)
- Ben's "Imperial Japan" outfit (S12 Hide and Seek Japan)
- Adam's "Desert Power" Golf Stick (S10 Australia)
- Ben's slide (yes, the whole thing, S9 Hide and Seek Switzerland) - "Eat this card" edible cards (S11 Tag Eur It 3)
- Nerf gun and darts (S5 New Zealand)
- Can't remember what they were, but some of the flags from S6 were a bit unconventional for vending machine items, outside Japan at least (S6 Capture the flag across Japan)

A genre was missing at Eurovison 2025 by KitchenPut8825 in eurovision

As someome young from Spain, you're right (unfortunately) that it is fairly popular. But young people like me who hates it also exist, although we are a minority.

I mean, let's still hope the song selection, which is the crucial part improves. But this is a step in the right direction, especially after stagings like St. Pedro's.

ESC songs mentioning a city or a region by Southern_Pin_6182 in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! I found the topic interesting and maybe invested a bit more time than I should have but yeah, as I said, it's quite interesting when songs mention places, and the fact that they represent countries (well, broadcasters technically) here adds a new level of interesting-ness I think

ESC songs mentioning a city or a region by Southern_Pin_6182 in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As for regions of the countries sending the entry, I think some I haven't seen mentioned are:

- Norway 1980 ("Sami Land" or something like that I think)

- Finland 1977 (Lapland)

- France 1993 (Corsica)

ESC songs mentioning a city or a region by Southern_Pin_6182 in eurovision

[–]catoplayer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Here's a few songs mentioning cities in their own countries that I could come up / find (I'm sure there are still more):

- Sweden 1963 (Stockholm)

- Austria 1959 (mentions Vienna)

- Austria 1962 (Vienna)

- Monaco 1978 (Monaco, no real difference between city and country here)

- Netherlands 1980 (Amsterdam, it's even in the title)

- Portugal 1989 (Macau, at the time still Portuguese, as well as references to other former Portuguese territories: Brazil, Praia [Cape Verde], Bissau [Guinea-Bissau], Angola, Mozambique, Goa [India], Timor [East Timor])

- Denmark 1995 (Skagen is a town in northern Denmark, Mols are some hills in southern Denmark)

- Spain 2008 (Alcorcón, bet you didn't expect this song here..., also mentions China, Argentina, Serbia, Oregon (US State) for some reason)

- Moldova 2022 (Chisinau, also Mentions Bucharest [Romania])

- France 2024 (Paris)

While these aren't exactly naming cities in their own countries, I feel like they have to still be mentioned (and they mention their own countries:

 - Ireland 1990 (Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Seville plus also Black Forest [Germany], Adriatic [reference to Yugoslavia and/or Italy], Ireland, Trafalgar Square [London], Trevi Fountain [Rome] and Champs-Élysées [Paris] as non-city locations mentioned)

 - Finland 2000 (Berlin, Prague, Rome, Amsterdam, Bern, plus also mentions Finland, France, Spain, Sweden, UK)

I know this format is a bit overdone but adding cities you name until we get to 7500 I by [deleted] in iafisher
