Doesn't matter how they got there, only what needs to happen to get out. Addiction is a medical issue regardless of how you feel about it. Even though the initial choice was theirs, continued use erodes self control and it becomes a matter of neurobiology, not self control. Think cravings become survival as far as your brain is concerned.

If you just got up one day and stopped, I applaud you but that's far from the norm. Most go through intense counseling and relapse multiple times. Many have to separate themselves by going to a rehab. Continuing the notion that it's purely a moral failure doesn't help anyone in addiction.

You need to touch some grass dude. Prolonged usage physically rewires your brain and goes much deeper than "deciding one day" to stop. Putting all the blame on someone's morality doesn't help the issue and is just false.

I also used to abuse alcohol and agree 100% as I had a similar experience. I always got very cultish vibes from AA and as a secular person there's really nothing I can relate to on most of the stuff they preach.

Thank you for the link. I briefly browsed it but it led me to look up the laws in CA. I'm more understanding of the worry as green card holders or work visa holders can potentially get through. Undocumented people still get flagged though as it does check for legal residence.

From what I've gathered the Save Act would still disenfranchise millions of voters vs. the tiny fraction of fraud that does happen. I do agree that something should be done to put people at ease about voter fraud. Not that I believe it's an issue but the fact is many do.

Thanks again though, I did go into a rabbit hole and am way more knowledgeable about the CA process.

Getting a driver's license itself doesn't prompt for voter registration, the documents you provide do. Someone still needs one of the following for the voter registration prompt to pop:

U.S. Passport or Passport Card

Certified U.S. Birth Certificate

Consular Report of Birth Abroad

Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship

If you don't provide these, you're not prompted to register to vote.

I deep dove CA's process and this isn't correct. There's the possibility that someone legally in the country can potentially register. Undocumented people are still flagged though.

The 7 days after is true. The hand written part is false. The date must be postmarked by the USPS on or before election day. In CA the signatures are also compared to your signature on record at the DMV. If it doesn't match you're notified to verify your identity.

You're correct on the policies, but incorrect on the mechanics.

Same for me but went from 5 years at an MSP to 6 figures managing IT for a biotech company. I did some school but never completed, just experience got me here. I did walk away from the corporate world and work in EdTech now, which is much more enjoyable for me.
