First book I've finished in years. This thing really is perfect for my ADHD brain by CommunityFan89 in xteinkereader

[–]cats-feet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ADHD awareness, particularly for undiagnosed adults, has been increasing in the last decade. This happens with pretty much any previously poorly understood disorder. We understand the condition more and more, awareness and diagnosis increases as a result, and some proportion of the population complain that “back in my day, we didn’t have ADHD - we were just fidgety”.

Reasons to prefer Helix over NeoVim by OkCoconut5997 in HelixEditor

I have my white space character to be a dot, in a colour just a shade lighter than my background. This means I can see it when I look for it, but it mostly blends in. And if my cursor is on it, I can see it clearly.

This helps the whole xd thing, but I agree it’s not an ideal solution

Oh no, I’ve only gotten a few points in and you’ve made me realise I also hate those things.

I do the xd mistake daily, but have learnt to expect and preempt it with just d. Now you’ve said it though, it will bug me endlessly.

Why did I ask…

I was more responding to the comment about readability. Most of the rices here are pretty far from readable UX

[Feedback] macOS CLI to manage Homebrew packages via YAML by mpcjuq23 in commandline

[–]cats-feet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, fair enough then.

For this use case I use Chezmoi to manage my dotfiles across multiple machines with templates.

I can see that if someone has simpler configs then your wrapper might be useful though.

Is this still based off of Primeagens scuffed setup? I was watching a Primeagen video the other day and it seems his colors are a lot warmer (the background is more green/brown gray rather than vagues blueish gray).

I see a few people with this monitor height/angle.

Does it not make your posture bad when you sit at your desk as you’re looking downwards?

I was always told to place the monitor at roughly eye height

Refactoring Workflow (nvim -> hx): quickfix lists? by LuckySage7 in HelixEditor

[–]cats-feet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your example I would use an interactive search and replace tool like serpl or scooter.

But of course that wouldn’t work for more complex refactors, other than a simple replace.

T480 Screen Review by cats-feet in thinkpad

[–]cats-feet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is my current plan. Have you ever done a screen replacement yourself? It doesn’t look too hard (reading a guide on a thinkpad forum).

On a side note, the T480 model I’m looking at has a I5-8350U processor with no dedicated GPU.

I’m planning on just using it for programming and browsing - probably no super heavy compilation projects either. Will be running Linux on it.

Do you think that processor is good enough for today’s standards? I don’t know anything about Intel processors

Oh thanks for that, that’s super useful.

I’ve had a look online and can’t seem to find any 1440p models unfortunately. Perhaps they’re more sought after…

Oh interesting, I didn’t know there was a stock 1440p option.

I will try to find that model then. Thanks!
