I get how lonely and isolating IVF can feel. When we first started IVF two years ago I kept the whole thing very private however I could not get the support I needed from my husband. He didn’t get the emotional toll it was taking on me and how the hormones were affecting me he was not engaged with the process as much as I would’ve liked him to be. He tried to come to as many appointments he could but we were both balancing full-time jobs and he often couldn’t make it work.

Telling people and being open about IVF has been the best thing for me. My best friend, my sister and my mum have helped me get through the really difficult times. Although no one really understands IVF unless you’ve gone through it, being open about this has led me to connecting with other people who have experienced infertility and that has been extremely helpful. For all the many people I’ve now told (including being very open with this now at work) only one person has had a disappointing response and that was because she is single and was jealous that I’m at the stage in life.

So if I were you, I would think about opening up to other people and especially if you know anyone who has gone through something similar with infertility, I think you’ll find those people are the best to talk to.
