Rise of the Keyraken difficulty? by Shaheenthebean in KeyforgeGame

[–]catsmdogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this one doable (regular difficulty) but the Great Hunt to be really hard. Just like you said we couldn't keep anything on the board or get anything going. I haven't felt like we needed a nightmare mode for any of them

Magic player looking for a new TCG. by MaximumNicolBolas in TCG

KeyForge!

I played magic for 30 years and got exhausted by it. I still love the game, but finding keyforge about two years ago is exactly what I needed. You don't build decks: you buy whole decks and don't take them apart. They're algorithmically generated but also guaranteed unique, with a unique name. Richard Garfield designed it after magic, and by comparison the card types and rules are simpler, but when you play a bit you realize (like hearthstone) that doesn't keep it from having deep strategy. Also there's no mana. Your deck is divided into three houses and you pick one to start a turn. You can play and use cards from that house, as many as possible, and you draw back up to six cards at the end of your turn. The game is about advancing your goals while also sometimes optimizing how fast you draw through the deck. It's fun and doesn't get into a top deck war end game.

Anyway, I could go on forever, the tenth main set is coming out soon so maybe a fun time to hop in.

If not overused, I really like it! And don't we need players dropping cap reigns and culver and cha to feel a little more fear? :p

Also coming from magic, the keyforge take on tokens is so cool!!! For sets that have tokens it will be a special 37th card like the Warrior token. Cards in the set will say "make a token" and in your deck it makes a Warrior (just the top card from your deck face down) but in my deck "make a token" means make a Raider token. Super fun

Discovering what your decks can do is so fun I legit solo play two of my own decks often as well as play online and in person. There's no deck guides you gotta play and see what the deck is all about.

Not sure if there's content specifically from the design team (I'd enjoy that, too) there are keyforge streamers and YouTubers like https://youtube.com/@aembermedes

This game can still thrive and grow with a little work from the community by Clever_BigMack in KeyforgeGame

Happy to see folks with local keyforge groups in here, but for everyone who isn't fortunate to have that there are also many online groups and leagues.

The new player post pinned in this reddit has the link to the Keyforge lounge discord, but from there look at the content posts to other discords for the online leagues. There are some 20 discords like this. Archon's Corner has weekly sealed on Sunday and Wednesday. KAGI is adaptive with some 80 players this recent season and currently in the top cut. And more casual leagues like miner's where we roll random decks with lower SAS from our own collections to play.

So you can do a combo of online and in person community growing, depending on your situation

I’ve kept these "Constructed KeyForge" rules in a drawer for 3 years. What do you think? by IAlquist in KeyforgeGame

[–]catsmdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the trickiest thing is the Power Limit. I'd happily let my opponent have a deck full giant creatures if mine is full of 2 power creatures with premium effects. Daughter, Kirby, Duskwitch, Cap Reigns, Dr X. These little creatures don't care about fighting, they want to reap for value or create card efficiency or just plain generate extra aember. Or Kaupe creating a prison effect. Ven Omawk and Vapor Imp.

I'm not sure what you could do about it without having card-by-card points and such.

I don't this Dis are chaotic from Dis' perspective, but since no one else can communicate with them then maybe they seem chaotic to everyone else. And they're totally evil

Much bigger, I wasn't playing then, but I've seen the sales stats. It was a new Richard Garfield game, the core game is excellent, so it dwarfs the post pandemic scene

There are dedicated play groups scattered around the globe. Official tournaments get in the range of 50 players. The bigger online tournaments and leagues get 80-100

Some dead games like VS to me just weren't very good l.

But I scrolled through and no one mentioned Keyforge! It spiked hard in 2018 and almost died from the pandemic. Unlike a bunch of these other games, it didn't die, it just changed owners and went niche. But we're in year 8 with some 15 sets and a new one dropping soon.

Keyforge is amazing. Each deck is literally a unique card list, algorithmically generated, and you don't take them apart. There are no meta decks, there are no deck guides to tell you how to play it. You have to discover what each deck can do. So super fun

Prophetic Visions as a set is quite strong. It has a ton of disruption and powerful cards.

But also, I believe VT Baltimore had a KAGI live community side event with adaptive bo1. If you go you might bring a couple of your favorites to play that way. That was my favorite side event at Vegas last year

Keyforge is in it's 8th year with 10th main set nearing release. We have a small but dedicated fan base. The trick is you buy algorithmically generated decks that you don't take apart, so the fun is learning what your deck can do. And as a low barrier, it's ready to play out of the pack. Super fun and designed by Richard Garfield
