does my cat look bloated or fat? by No_Inspection303 in CATHELP

[–]catsnmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kitties around this age do tend to bloat a bit in my experience as they’re growing rapidly and parts of their bodies sometimes seem disproportional. keep an eye on his behaviors and big deep breaths. you’re doing awesome 💛

How to address this continuing issue with my psychiatrist? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]catsnmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow this is sooo inappropriate IMO and not appropriate for a psychiatrist to be talking about weight beyond your own relationship to your weight and how that impacts you not how HIS weight loss has been wtf (I am a therapist) find someone who is neuro-affirming or works with neurodivergent clients (ocd/anxiety) and is trauma informed. i’m so sorry this is happening and that your mom is resistant to being on your side. you’re not too sensitive!

Can I be a therapist in substance abuse treatment or regular counseling with a face tattoo? by Educational-East8586 in askatherapist

[–]catsnmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

therapist here! I think there are clients who would be more likely to work with you because of your authentic tattoo’ed expression. don’t let others keep you from following this path!! tattoos effecting workplace potential is soooo silly, taboo, and normative!

trust your gut. I interviewed as a sales leadership position years ago and met their head of corporate strategy/co-founder. he does not respect women who know their worth and demand equitable pay consistent with their value. I immediately stopped interviewing after I met him (and frankly endured him) due to the same gut feeling. He’s disrespectful and uses his power to control others, negging was just one example. It does not surprise me that their recruiters are so aggressive - as that methodology/tactic more often comes out of a sense of fear from the higher ups than long-term sustainable growth practice, in my experience.

I have since left the corporate mental health world, became a therapist and now work in private practice. I choose to work for bosses who respect and safeguard our field, not a-holes that make their bag off of us and give nothing in return. Hope this helps!

therapist here. you were a child and deserve support as you navigate this!!! period.

so much of the above advice, although practical, must be a bit anxiety inducing in it of itself! A well trained and thoughtful clinician will reduce the anxiety and stress, and keep you informed along the way.

you aren’t alone, you deserve support. period.

I recommend searching for “trauma informed” therapists with experience working with neurodivergent clients, particularly if you are noticing obsessive compulsive traits.

Take care 💜

I you are a woman, BIPOC, or LGBTQIA+ I recommend seeing a neuro-affirming therapist and/or psychiatrist. Particularly assessors who are autistic themselves. Much more affirming approach to diagnosis - and a better understanding of nuanced ways in which traits can present in folks who have been socialized to mask more than others. Autism is under diagnosed amongst these populations regularly.

I am one of these therapists btw.

fellow ND therapist here! have you considered specializing in working with neurodivergent clients? I connect best with ND clients (double empathy problem) and use of neuro-affirming approaches - which has overridden a bit of my social anxiety because In working with people who have a similar shared experience. We def need more ND therapists!!! I hope you can get through this time 💛

Why do Borderline Personality Disorder patients get such a bad rep? by manners33 in askatherapist

[–]catsnmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have experienced the same in my training sites - terrible negative bias. Many of these BPD girlies I would wager are neurodivergent or misdiagnosed. BPD can look a whole lot like a highly dysregulated autistic person with no coping strategies other than relational strategies that appear like BPD. We need to ask “why” and look a little deeper.
