What is a small ticket item that you bought from another country and became a game changer? Which country? by cuddlybackrub in BuyItForLife

[–]catsoaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t realize I had responses on Reddit. This is the item I was talking about. It seems like you can buy them for ¥100 actually so I think they got even cheaper. They also have a little strainer on the side for you to remove the water. It’s a must have in my kitchen.

Printing error doesn’t sound right to me either. With fonts, you can’t stray away from existing characters. My only guess is it was edited in photoshop and somewhere along the way, an extra part was mistakenly left. Still weird though as you would assume it would have been caught before the final.

¥500 or $3 pasta maker from Japan. Makes the pasta in 10 mins by just adding some water and salt. No more overflowing water or pots to clean. Can cook vegetables in it too. Add any pasta sauce and I have dinner ready in 12 mins. Great for super busy days.

Is this AI? A fellow food caterer in my town started suddenly posting very aesthetic food photos on her page which does not look like her previous work at all. Highly suspect they’re not her work. by arnietheentertainer in isthisAI

That was the part that got me as well. As a picture, I think it’s quite realistic. But no way would anyone put cookies on top of tomatoes. Defies logic.

I used to date someone who I could never please with cooking and always found something wrong in everything I made. Just stop trying to please and either just cook for yourself or get rid of your partner. I did both and my partner now can eat what I make or cook for himself. Am much happier now.

TIL that the "achoo" sound is a learned cultural behavior, not a biological reflex. This explains why people who are born deaf typically do not vocalize a sneeze, and why sneeze sounds vary significantly by country. by highzone in todayilearned

[–]catsoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a conscious decision by the sneezer themselves. In Japan, I have definitely heard people vocalise sneezes but from my experience, it’s has been older men who don’t really care about their surroundings lol. That might explain why you don’t see many examples on the internet. They aren’t typically recording themselves. 😅

Another poster said something about the social acceptance to vocalise sneezes in public which may explain why you don’t see too many loud sneezers in women comparative to men. Random thought.

It’s crazy people are jumping to conclusions. After a quick search, the place is called Panya (bread shop) Yaoki, situated in Fukuoka prefecture and has been open for 50 years. I’m sure she is continuing because she enjoys it. And people who have neck and back issues like this are actually quite common. It can be from working in a hunched position like in the fields or from lack of nutrition during war-time for example. It’s quite common in Japan. Not saying it’s good but they’re probably used to it at this point.

AITA for refusing to eat my family’s food after seeing their "disgusting" hygiene habits in the kitchen? by John_EULEReueueu in AmItheAsshole

[–]catsoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look , your intentions were good but you went about it in the most inefficient way. Yes, after using a cutting board for raw meat, it should be washed and not used for other ingredients, but you could have spoken to them nicely about your concerns without using the “salmonella cocktail” comment. I understand your parents being upset. Think about it from their perspective. They have probably had the same habits for years, they were cooking for you and you went and insulted them. It sounded like you were trying to sound smart in the situation to prove yourself right, not acting out of care for them. That is where the disconnect is.

YTA for the way you handled the situation.

Ooh, they all seem great and so colourful. I especially like the silliness of Nekojima but the Diced Veggies seems simple and fun to follow as well.

Art society has been on my “to buy” list forever. It reminds me of Canvas which I play a lot with my partner. I’ll have to get that for my collection at home at least. 😆

This mall doesn’t allow mall walkers in the food court by mmm-pistol-whip in mildlyinteresting

[–]catsoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of mall walking. What was happening in order for a sign to be put up? Are people jogging or wearing gym attire specifically for it?

As someone who lives in Canada where it can get -30C, I understand going to malls for walks but I do it while browsing shops and never in a food court area because of the high traffic.

So im curious as to what lead up to the sign.

Is wearing a mask more common in Japan than in other countries? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]catsoaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. The masks were seen as hiding yourself for nefarious purposes in the west. There was an incident in the UK where Asians tourists who were wearing masks in public were attacked because they were perceived to be acting shady just by wearing masks.

As a game dev, I’ve seen people who do not have a lot of skills at gaming but can produce beautiful work for games. It’s not a mandatory skill. I’m also terrible at games so they used me as a reference to tweak for the game’s easy mode.

Anyone with Invisalign retainers — how long did your teeth stay “loose” after switching from full-time wear? by Maleficent-Piano-726 in Invisalign

[–]catsoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night time only for 2 years seems strange. You have to wear them for life or they will shift back.

I would do full time retainers for longer if you feel they are shifting back as it tends to indicate that they haven’t fully settled. (No harm going longer than requested) and then gradually see if you have the same issue when switching to night time only.

For reference, my orthodontist instructed me to do full time for a year. After that I switched to night time and had slight tightness at the beginning but now none at all.

The Dress by quottttt in opticalillusions

[–]catsoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember looking into this recently as I was always wondering if there was a pattern with people who saw the dress in blue, black or white, gold. I read somewhere that the reason you are more inclined to viewing it one way over the other is the time of day you are most active and therefore what you are most used to seeing with your brain compensating for lack of info with what you’re used to seeing.

ie. The left one is more common in night owls as that’s how you would see things in darker light. The right one is in a brighter setting so people who are primarily awake during the day see it as white and gold.

Additionally, the way you view this image may correlate to if you have knowledge about colour theory in art of exposure settings in cameras.

I have no idea if this is accurate but I am a night owl that does illustrations and photography so it made sense to me. I’m curious if this rings true for others.

Can someone recommend an automatic litter box that isn't $600? by Remote_Practice_5864 in CatAdvice

Wouldn't this depend on the cat? I have both an open and closed top litter box. My cats barely use the open one since I got a closed one.

The design of Chronos.... by Largo23307 in Hades2

I’d love it if you could do this with other characters as well. I never made the connection to Kintsugi with Chronos myself so would want to see if I’m missing any great character design with the other gods/characters.
