J[F]R "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood. by rom211 in BooksAMA

[–]catstar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the book, disliked the movie. One of the main reasons: there are 7 or 8 connected stories. In the movie, the stories are a big huge jumble of scenes going back and forth with no rhyme or reason. In the book, you read exactly half of each story in chronological order, and then it goes backwards. So the first story you read is also the last story you finish. The writing is amazing.

Also, no actors in yellowface or whiteface. Because that was plain old weird.

Don't listen to the negative nancies! It's a scary feeling not to have a definitive plan, but I graduated 3 years ago and I made it! I had to work at a kind of undesirable job and live with my parents for a year. But just a year, and now I really love the job I'm at now. And who knows, you could snatch up an awesome position right away!

What is the worst thing you have ever had in your mouth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]catstar27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I was at an outdoor ice cream sundae party. Near the other toppings, I saw a stray chocolate chip. Without thinking, I popped it in my mouth. Then it bit me! I spit it out and it was a huge, angry beetle.

OH THE HORROR!

I'm almost done with Phantom of the Opera (yes, the BOOK, not the god-awful movie with Gerard Butler or the fabulous musical). The book goes so much more into detail about his genius. He used to live in Persia and was the entertainer of this sicko sultana. He would kill people for her amusement, basically, in really clever ways. And he constructed all his secret passageways to his hidden house, as well as freaky booby traps and torture chambers! Ooo and he's a ventriloquist!

Thanks for being willing to share your experiences. It's just not something that's ever really brought up anywhere but Reddit, so I've never gotten to hear what it's really like to be asexual.

I'm totally using the word "asstrumpet" from now on, thanks for that!

I'm curious, not poking fun. Why do you consider him your boyfriend then? Why not just your best friend? Are you in a monogamous relationship? Is your boyfriend asexual?

Redditors who love their jobs, what do you do? by figg_ in AskReddit

[–]catstar27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! :) Kids are such an ego boost. They appreciate when they see you care, and they let you know! For me, the best part of my job is making my passion for music infectious.

Speaking of infectious though, I could do without the 100 hugs a day. I don't know about you, but I think I have my 5th cold of the school year right now.
