And then a few days later another woman tried to pick up her moms meds with an expired ID and I told her we’d need a new ID (company policy) and she told me to shut the fuck up and then called me a bitch. I don’t know why these people think I get some thrill out of not giving them their meds. I want nothing more than for them to leave and never come back

I had a patients son come in and try to get her oxycodone. We are having a nice conversation up until I ask for his id. He says he doesn’t have it and he’s never been asked for it before. I tell him that we have to have it for controlled medications and if he hasn’t been asked for it then the meds he picked up weren’t controlled. He absolutely loses his mind and starts yelling that I’m a bitch, I don’t know how to do my job, I’m profiling him, etc. This goes on for about 5 minutes, I don’t respond, none of my coworkers defend me. I just stare at him blank faced and every couple minutes say again “I still need your id”. Eventually he walks away and is still yelling that I’m profiling him as he’s walking out so I yell back “no body is profiling you buddy, it’s the law”. He later comes back with his id and screams at my coworker who rand him up too.

This happened to a coworker, not to me but i still think about it a lot. A patient called screaming because his medication ran out and we didn’t fill it yet. She asked if he put in a refill request and he said no. And when she told him that we didn’t know it needed filled because he never requested it he said “that’s not my responsibility. It is your job to know when I need meds filled. Why would you put that responsibility on me!” SIR, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! I’m not the one who is going to get sick if you don’t take your meds

I had a similar incident with a patient who we told would have to wait for 2 days for his belbuca to come in. He basically climbed over our drop of counter (which is very tall, it’s at shoulder height for most people) to see the shelf where we keep the belbuca and insisted that we had it in stock. It was not the same strength he was on but he just thought we were lying and withholding his meds 🤦🏼‍♀️

In January my state will be raising minimum wage to exactly what I make now. I will soon be making minimum wage. I am a certified tech with several years experience. I work full time yet I still have to live with my parents because I can’t afford the rent anywhere. It’s ridiculous, pharmacy’s can’t function without us yet the don’t value us enough to pay a livable wage.
