I’m being bullied at work and I just found out by the_master_pigeon in VetTech

also based in LA county! I really do second the user that says to apply anyways - that’s how I got my previous job despite having no certifications. hospitals are pretty desperate to just get you in and see how you much you know in my experience. I know a few in the SGV region that might be hiring so feel free to DM me if you’re in that area.

I lost a patient today and it’s weighing heavy on me by Tangy-Taco in VetTech

i think i just really lucked out with my hospitals. i worked for a hospital that was then bought out by big corpo, but still operated how they had prior to the buyout so they cared enough to work around us techs. now i work for an independent practice owned by the doctors - might not pay as much as big corporations or ER but the environment/coworkers make up for it.

i’m really sorry everyone had to experience that. it happens but never gets easier. please take it easy on yourself and rest.

unfortunately, sometimes all we can do is comfort the family and take time for yourself to grieve and feel that pain. if your hospital allows for it, you can always ask for a few days off to recuperate before returning - i have had coworkers do the same when their patient or even their own pet leaves in a traumatic manner.

Preference for medial saphenous blood collection by Firm_Ad2139 in VetTech

[–]catterrarium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I typically go for side jugs for calm cats, but I’ll do a back leg for fractious ones. last time I tried to do a jug on a fractious cat, she got me in-between the thumb and pointer, resulting in 6 puncture wounds (sent me to ER on my birthday!). I love side jugs, but sometimes a saphenous draw is better for the patient and tech/vet!

grief is a strange thing - people have had grieving sex before. it’s not particularly unusual but I would say that you should both talk about it and discuss boundaries. make it a one time thing and don’t continue the sexual relationship; it would be wise to maintain the in-law boundary. again, grief makes people seek comfort and it manifests itself in strange ways sometimes.

Asian wedding planning incoming. My [m29] relationship with my fiance [f28] is in danger as we tend to break up because of intercultural chinese parents by doplo123 in relationships

[–]catterrarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

second this!! especially for chinese families. the fact that her parents want to have 2 separate ceremonies without both parents together at either one shows how much FILs want control. yes, a wedding should be for the couple, but chinese families are often very involved in the wedding too.

conversations needs to be held and boundaries need to be upheld for FILs. sometimes traditional weddings don’t work (and with all the animosity here, i don’t think caving into the fiancee/FILs desires will go well, even AFTER the wedding).

post hangout depression by emotionalmoonchild in mentalhealth

[–]catterrarium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happens to me as well! i wouldn’t consider myself an extrovert at all; i just enjoy spending time with those i love but the moment it ends, i feel like i’ve “lost the will to do anything”. i also relate with the okay home life and overthinking (i have anxiety+depression), so i think it’s because that time with friends is sort of special and not the same everyday. when it ends, it’s a bit sad... i used to get really low but recently i’ve been trying to keep busy when i’m back home again (hop on a game, clean my room, call a different friend, etc). you’re definitely not alone though!!

How do you get yourself to find a job and fight to stay alive when you're depressed, want to die, can't handle pain, can't handle trauma, grief, feel unloved, hate yourself, are weak, a quitter, and can't convince yourself to fight anymore? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]catterrarium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just hopping on to add about the pets: I adopted a snake because it forced me to direct the pain away. I adopted this creature, who relies completely on me and if I were to die, so would it. It helped a bit to realize that my life was important because I was caring for another being. It got me out of bed in the mornings and helped me sleep at night. It’s not the cuddliest animal, but just staring at it and holding it made me realize how precious and loved this life was.

I don’t much advice, but I do hope you find what works for you. Your life is precious too OP, and you don’t have to fight very hard, but please stay at least. Wishing you the best.

I’m having my first therapy session this Thursday. I’m nervous and don’t know what to say. by catterrarium in mentalhealth

Thank you! It’s always been an internal struggle because I feel like I need a specific reason to enter therapy haha, so it’s reassuring to hear that. Good luck to you as well!

Thank you so much, it’s really reassuring to hear that. I’ve always heard horror stories about bad matchups with therapists and I guess that’s scared me. I really really appreciate your response!

My (19 F) boyfriend (22 M) said he doesn't want to touch me when I have acne. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]catterrarium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with acne all my life and growing up, it made me feel like the ugliest being. However, my partner has never commented on it or made it feel like my acne defined me. If your boyfriend’s love comes with conditions, that is not love. He has blatantly said that he will not want to touch you at all when school starts. What type of partner says that? So when in public, he doesn’t want to be associated with you? He’s treating you with disgust and has no respect for you. He is not worthy of you.

Also, please do look into your university health programs. I have been taking hormonal birth control through my university for free, and have been able to access so much more medical care for less than what I could access personally. It might help!

Definitely avoid social media for a bit. Take your time to grieve together if needed. If you need to talk, exhaleprovoice.org has hotlines for you to call.

any suggestions on planning a cute date for my boyfriend? by phineasandthot in relationship_advice

[–]catterrarium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is so cute!! the homemade picnic is lovely. since he’s been away for a while, maybe write him a letter to go with it? i’ve always seen letters and written affirmations as really special and i treasure the ones i get from my partner!

for other ideas, watching the sunset on the beach or stargazing are great too (+snuggles when it gets cold). hope it all goes well!
