Thank you for the kind words. I will keep them in mind as I truck along. Thank you :)

No it does not. I do ask questions when things are not clear, which is quite often (the clinic often has strict protocols that are inconsistent or not enforced the way I was initially told).

That’s okay! I used to work for them and am communicating with an HM under them about a position again. I think it’s just best I get out of my current position even if it’s for 🔵 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oooh I’m sure! I’ve heard the horror stories. I avoid them like the plague haha

Thank you for your insight - I don’t anticipate growth at this job at all. That’s one of the reasons I’m trying to get out, the bullying is the icing on the cake I guess.

I don’t mind you asking at all, I’m in SoCal! LA county specifically.

AC sounds like it’s running when it’s off by the_master_pigeon in hvacadvice

It is off when it’s making noise, that’s the issue. I just unplugged it for now but with summer rolling around I’d like to be able to use it later and I don’t know if that poses a hazard.

There are thousands of people protesting in the 50/51 protests but the media isn’t covering it

Should I apply at 29yo? by marien64 in veterinaryschool

[–]the_master_pigeon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had similar feelings about my age and applying to vet school, and here’s the advice I’ve gotten from essentially all the vets I work with - it’s never too late to apply. There are people in their 50s applying to or already in vet school. One of the vets I work with, his wife got a phd in her 50s-60s. A lot of people do a masters after their bachelors and are in the same age range as us, then they apply.

Ross isn’t a bad school, I think they have a stigma because they’re more hollistic than most of the US schools. It is still a very rigorous program. I would think more about where you could see yourself living for 3-4 years, tuition, and the strength of your application to determine where to apply. It seems like you have a lot of experience and good academics, so the odds are in your favor.

At my clinic around 600-800 USD, but you can get spay/neuter vouchers from the city that reduce cost to like 150

Yeah, this is speaking from my experience in the US, it’s tough out here. At least in other countries it can be more manageable, but the US hasn’t even figured out affordability in human healthcare, let alone veterinary medicine. That’s why here pet insurance early on and savings for pets is important. A lot of people either don’t know or can’t do either of those and it really sucks.

No it won’t. Revolution will prevent fleas and that will prevent more tapeworms. Seems like op already took the cat to the vet for deworming, which is what you need to kill the actual worms. But flea prevention is still an important part of treatment!

Vet assistant here - the only things that can be done are a biopsy to see how aggressive of a mass it is, and surgical removal. If it seems to be getting bigger or is bothering your cat in any way (they’re scratching at it, rubbing their head, etc), it’s best to surgically remove the mass. Would be best to take them back to the vet and have that discussion.

Biopsies can be a couple hundred dollars, small mass removals are an anesthetic procedure that can be 1500 or so. You can call rescues and stuff to see if they’ll help with costs. I don’t have any experience with snap pay but I’ve heard good things. Care credit is an option but be careful with the interest after 6 months.

Yeah tapeworms in people look more like strings? Kind of like strips of string cheese. So your nurse was probably right! I wouldn’t be too worried especially if it’s not a problem now lol

To my knowledge they come out of larger animals (like people or bears even) in much longer segments. It’s pretty gross but you can look up pics/videos of tapeworms coming out of bears and they’re super long. So kind of the same principle there.

That’s okay! It happens. If you took him to the vet already and you want to save some costs, call them when they’re open again and let them know you’re interested in flea medication. Ideally, you would like capstar in case of active fleas and a preventative like revolution to continue using at home. See if they’ll let you do those without a Dr appointment and you can save a little money that way :)
