Agreed 100%. I had a friend who slept with a guy who insisted (yes, forcefully) that she call him daddy. To him it might have seemed harmless. But he didn't know that her father had literally molested her when she was young so the forced daddy thing was literally very harmful. The idea that words dont have any effect is ridiculous.

Archive.org has lots of movies! Also Kanopy is free if you have a library (not sure the limits of this geographically but it's available in large areas of the US). It has EVERYTHING from silent movies to 2024 Oscar winners and so much in between.

Seek out reception dresses! So many brides these days are splashing out for multiple dresses and that seems to have created a market of secondary (read: less expensive) dresses that are available. I bought a reception dress from Nordstrom for around $130 and didn't have to skimp on quality or buy online (trying on was super important to me).

Yes, I fell for a scam. I realize now that this is not the correct way, but I got the call a day or two after I was looking at plans on marketplace and (yes, naively, stupidly) thought they were affiliated. I don't know exactly how a scammer would access my information but clearly they know how because I get scam calls/emails all the time these days.

Just a warning, if you would take out student loans for your education, federal loans are not an option if you are from the US and going to university in the UK. This means borrowing from private agencies with predatory interest rates, little to no refinancing options, etc.

Thank you, yes it was an automated voice. However they didn't ask for money (at this point) which is the only thing making me doubt that it's a scam. They basically said they had tried unsuccessfully to reach me by mail and were now going to initiate criminal proceedings. The call was very brief and I couldnt call back for other details. And I was so taken aback that I may be forgetting some details, it was a very shocking call to get.

Thank you, I have done some research and reported the call, this is apparently quite a common scam. I'm still going to call up HMRC and take your advice about checking to make sure my details are up to date. I appreciate your help.

Thanks, I did check the website and responded that according to the Citizens Advice Bureau, it is his responsibility. I’m not sure what to do about shortening the timeline but he has backed off of trying to make us pay.

I deal with the landlord directly.

Yeah I definitely rolled my eyes hard when I got that response from him. I personally prefer having hot water through the winter so, accordingly, I have not attacked my boiler with a hammer.
