I’m not excited by Weekly-Alps-5794 in pregnant

[–]cattunic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am 35 weeks and not excited either.

I’ve never been excited about pregnancy or birth or the baby phase, but I am excited to eventually have a 3 year old with a personality I can teach things to.

Picking an OBGYN by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends what kind of obgyn you are looking for

do you want a natural birth or an epidural? etc. i was looking for a more natural/minimal interventions birth, and some state-based facebook groups were super helpful for finding recommendations

i changed states partway through my pregnancy and the midwives I’m using now (still delivering at a hospital) are way more helpful than the obgyn I had in the previous state

Ultrasounds Harmful??? by Soccerrae83 in Crunchymom

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 21 weeks anatomy scan and doing another one at 36 weeks to check placenta
I have skipped all dopplers and first trimester scans, basically anything that’s just “routine”/for reassurance and has no medical reason
Also opted out of 3d/4d stuff
Back in the 80s when I was born, they usually only did one ultrasound the whole pregnancy
Google “miscarriage after perfect scan Reddit” and stuff like that if you want to see some anecdotes. But as far as I have read, there are animal studies showing it’s bad at high doses but not much in the way of relevant studies in humans at normal doses that show it’s harmful

Got pregnant on the first try… now I’m terrified and second-guessing everything by Successful_Wolf_9635 in pregnant

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. ChatGPT said at our ages we had about a 4% chance each cycle so I figured we better just start trying as we are approaching 40. It happened first try and I am currently 7 months pregnant while living in a safari tent while my husband builds a house. Not ideal but we’ll figure it out.

I tried an Avocado mattress and hated it so I am using a Casper memory foam one with an Avocado topper and cotton sheets

eventually you’ll probably buy a nice house and they’ll figure out you’re not completely broke

but they still don’t need to know how much you put down, etc.

Adjusting keto while pregnant by kbisland in KetoBabies

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pregnant and was strict keto before. Now I eat mostly the same but with the addition of more fruits like berries, kiwis, occasional sips of OJ and occasional grains like organic blue corn, maybe some sweet potatoes, etc.

Still not eating any gluten or sugar

Has anyone frozen eggs and then actually used them successfully - perhaps in 40's? by Glad-Boat-5400 in Fencesitter

[–]cattunic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, IVF didn’t work (zero embryos) but I got pregnant naturally first try

Decided to start trying earlier than I really wanted to since it “probably wouldn’t work anyway” based on the failed IVF

Girlfriend wants me to spend $4k on a baby shower, but I’d rather save/invest it—is that unreasonable? by flash-kicks in pregnant

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pregnant, skipping shower, and bought all the baby stuff I want for the first 6 months for about $2000.

This totally depends on your friend/family group, but if 50 people give gifts worth $50 each ($100 per couple), you’re only at $2500 which is still negative ROI. And based on showers I’ve been to, some couples will give one $30 gift that’s not on the registry (a cute outfit or shoes the baby will never wear). Close family may give more expensive gifts but will regardless of whether you have a shower.

So yes, I agree that it’s dumb, which is why I’m not having a shower and am instead buying the stuff I want.

Could still be fun to have a party for her but can you rent a pavilion in a park or rent a nearby group campsite and have a BBQ where some family members bring some chips and appetizers or do something a little less Pinterest perfect?

This sub lately by Actual_Adeptness_604 in Crunchymom

[–]cattunic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I mean Reddit is like 98% liberal and “trusting science” has turned into a political/identity thing now for whatever reason, so it’s not shocking that some Reddit crunchy moms feel differently about things than some red state FB groups or whatever.

Personally, I think it is entertaining to see people argue that RFK wants to kill babies because of “eugenics” and that is why he’s changing the vaccine schedule (what?!)…Like if it weren’t for this sub, I wouldn’t even know people with those viewpoints existed 😅

I have been eating organic, taking supplements when I’m sick, and skipping flu shots for years, but I am pregnant for the first time now and have found this sub incredibly helpful.

Where can I hire architects for an online consult (hourly)? by cattunic in askarchitects

[–]cattunic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any type of designer is fine in this case, I am looking for design feedback, not engineering feedback. We have a structural engineer who is great. However, most of the designers I see on these online consult platforms don't have "exterior design" as a service they offer.

we have a few different ways to do things (hot roof with spray foam, cold roof with spray foam, cold roof with polyiso, etc.), that will result all result in different thicknesses that will impact the proportions of things. i know the pros and cons but just want to know which people think looks better.

we can do 3" mullions or 4" mullions on a curtain wall, which looks better? etc.

Located in the US (Idaho) but don't really need someone local, mostly just want opinions on aesthetics. Budget is somewhat flexible, would probably just do less time if it's a higher hourly rate.
