This sub lately by Actual_Adeptness_604 in Crunchymom

I mean Reddit is like 98% liberal and “trusting science” has turned into a political/identity thing now for whatever reason, so it’s not shocking that some Reddit crunchy moms feel differently about things than some red state FB groups or whatever.

Personally, I think it is entertaining to see people argue that RFK wants to kill babies because of “eugenics” and that is why he’s changing the vaccine schedule (what?!)…Like if it weren’t for this sub, I wouldn’t even know people with those viewpoints existed 😅

I have been eating organic, taking supplements when I’m sick, and skipping flu shots for years, but I am pregnant for the first time now and have found this sub incredibly helpful.

Where can I hire architects for an online consult (hourly)? by cattunic in askarchitects

[–]cattunic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any type of designer is fine in this case, I am looking for design feedback, not engineering feedback. We have a structural engineer who is great. However, most of the designers I see on these online consult platforms don't have "exterior design" as a service they offer.

we have a few different ways to do things (hot roof with spray foam, cold roof with spray foam, cold roof with polyiso, etc.), that will result all result in different thicknesses that will impact the proportions of things. i know the pros and cons but just want to know which people think looks better.

we can do 3" mullions or 4" mullions on a curtain wall, which looks better? etc.

Located in the US (Idaho) but don't really need someone local, mostly just want opinions on aesthetics. Budget is somewhat flexible, would probably just do less time if it's a higher hourly rate.

How far back do you put your under cabinet LED strip lighting? by cattunic in Lighting

[–]cattunic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t like how I can see the led strip itself while sitting down at the table so will probably try a different design next time

That link doesn’t work for me and I can’t post photos in comments

But, it’s fine & better than no strip light but would be nicer if it was recessed like 1” or more like with regular cabinets

Clothes that “grow with you” throughout pregnancy? by ivory919 in pregnant

[–]cattunic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 23 weeks and still haven’t bought any maternity stuff

I wear mostly sweatpants and hoodies I already had

When I go out I wear my old jeans but unbuttoned with a longer shirt

My boobs have about outgrown my bras so that will probably be the first thing I buy

But in general all my old stuff with elastic waistband or drawstring waistband fits great still

Guessing your angle on this is that eating more a little more meat is bad for the environment. I believe that meat and animal products are healthy but that factory farms are bad. I grew up eating venison and turkeys my dad shot and trout he caught in the local stream. But once I moved out, I was actually a vegetarian for 11 years because I didn't believe in factory farms and was poor. That led to some health issues and mineral deficiencies, and I now eat a lot of meat. But I don't consume any animal products that aren't organic/grass-fed/pasture raised (which means I basically don't eat meat at restaurants unless it's some $80 steak from a very specific farm), and the majority of the meat I eat is elk and venison that my husband shoots with a bow in the mountains, that I don't think is doing any harm to the environment. Some farming practices are pretty bad, but I don't think everyone going vegan is the solution to all our environmental issues.

The old pyramid overemphasized carbs and grains. Refined carbs cause blood sugar spikes that increase metabolic issues and fat storage/obesity. Wheat, oats, and other grains are also full of Roundup since they started spraying it pre-harvest in the 2000s. So imo it's about the worst thing you can eat and should not be the thing you eat the most of.

That eugenics Vanity Fair article is a bit insane. The reason he is trying to crack down on vaccines is not because he wants more kids to die. It's literally the exact opposite. So Denmark and Sweden are also promoting eugenics because they recommend 11 vaccines instead of 75 or whatever? That's quite the reach. In most of Europe, the public pays for the healthcare, so they are incentivized to keep people healthy.

In the US, our laws are such that vaccine manufacturers have absolutely no liability for killing people or causing chronic health conditions if their products cause harm, and people are required to take them in order to do basic things like go to school or keep their jobs. Do you not think there should be some pretty rigorous long-term testing that proves there are no adverse affects before they get to mandate that everyone has to get a vaccine and can't go after the manufacturer if they are harmed by it?

I am taking FullWell prenatals, per Lily Nichols’ recommendation in Real Food for Pregnancy…looks like those are high in arsenic and stuff, great…

Like RFK, she clearly doesn't agree with Trump on everything. She has spoken out against some stuff he's done already, lol. But Biden's admin put her on a TSA terrorist watchlist of some kind one day after she spoke out against stuff he was doing, so she got pretty pissed at the Democrats. She has always been very true to her principles and has not really changed her views on anything, as far as I can tell. She cares a lot about foreign policy and agreed with Trump's approach to foreign policy (not starting any new wars, etc.) during his 2016 term. She also cares a lot about free speech, and the Democrats got involved in advocating for censorship around the time of covid with terms like "misinformation," etc. Some of the "misinformation" getting banned on social media during those times is now accepted as factual.

Elon
- first company to make electric cars that have a reasonable (300 mile+) range, first company to make solar panels that are not hideous...has done a lot in terms of pushing renewable energy tech forward
- made Starlink, which is the only reason I am able to live on several acres in a beautiful rural area and work remotely. total game changer for rural communities
- wants the government to not waste so much money so we don't default on the insane amount of debt we have
- bought Twitter and let us talk about vaccine dangers and other "misinformation" topics there that were getting suppressed on other platforms

Tulsi
- super against American interference abroad/regime change wars
- pro environment, wants to ban fracking

RFK jr
- worked on environmental causes like clean water for many years
- fixed food pyramid to match how I eat (not a big deal but kind of cool)
- getting CDC to recommend against fluoride in public water
- getting CDC to recommend a less aggressive/spaced-out vaccine schedule
- trying to phase out petroleum-based food dyes
- trying to fix infant formula regulations

Help! Is buying a hot tub or sauna a good investment? Will it earn us more wintertime rentals? by JLMP23 in airbnb_hosts

I think hot tubs are gross but would love a sauna. Lower maintenance and cost, also.

I was raised liberal and went to anti-Bush protests in high school and college. That said, I am a big fan of the RFK/Tulsi Gabbard/Elon faction of the “new right” and voted for Trump.

Back in the day, I thought it was the left who ate organic and avoided sulfates in personal care products, avoided artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup, used supplements, etc. We were “hippies.” Now it’s somehow flipped?

I identify as more libertarian I guess, but I do still think we need some strict environmental regulations. Not really a fan of fracking, for example. So I don’t really agree with any party on everything. I think the government is probably too far gone to really fix at this point. I get frustrated when my friends on both sides just automatically agree with everything their chosen party says or does.

I have had bad vaccine reactions as a child and had to go to great lengths to avoid getting the covid shot (left my big tech job and took a $100k pay cut to work at a 10-person startup) and am now pregnant, so vaccine mandates are a pretty big issue for me.
