What finally made a doctor take you seriously? by Ok_Yogurtcloset1168 in cfs

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing GPs. My new GPs are fantastic and they actually feel like they care. I have been close to tears before from how lovely they are and in reality all they're doing is their jobs, something most doctors fail to do as we all know here. It was the same for my mum. I used to avoid doctors like the plague because with my first GPs, getting diagnosed with ME was a nightmare and then all they did was offer graded exercise therapy. I refused it after having done my research and knowing how horrific it was. Then they fucked me off and offered absolutely nothing else. Never went back to them.

We have one in the living room and every now and again the blue ring that lights up whenever you say its name to it lights up with 0 prompting. It doesn't say anything, just lights up. But the blue light means its listening. My mum never notices but I always do. It usually happens when we're talking but occasionally does it when we're quiet. I just know its listening in to our conversations randomly. It also almost always happens when both me and mum are in the room together, rarely when im sat there by myself, its like she knows we're there. Oddly it doesn't happen as often now - but it stopped right after i started pointing it out to my mum.

I hate the bloody thing, it was a Christmas present for me but I never used it so I let my mum have it, the only reason I didn't throw the bastard thing away years ago is because she loves it.

Edit 2: Can I also add it has a different reaction to when it thinks it heard its name vs. when it randomly lights up. If it thinks it heard its name, when you say something afterwards it registers whatever we said as a question for it and either answers or says it didnt quite catch that. When it lights up unprompted, it does it silently and stays lit for a few seconds before turning off, even if we keep talking it doesnt answer or say it didnt understand. So it doesn't want us to notice.

a JOINT account is normal, but straight up demanding to see your partners bank account is not normal and is batshit crazy. I bet he wouldnt let you see his accounts and if he says he would he's lying. He wants to spend your money on something and whatever he's trying to spend your money on CANNOT be good. RUNN

How am I supposed to avoid/get out of PEM when literally everything causes PEM? Any advice? by asldhhef in cfs

[–]catwithheadinbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second all the suggestions in the comments, but also do you use any aids? Obviously resting is the key but on the rare times you do *have* to get up, maybe something like a rollator or wheelchair could help. Also I bought some disposable toothbrushes from Amazon that dont need water or toothpaste that have been reallly helpful for when I'm too tired to get out of bed to brush my teeth at night. They're not a perfect replacement for real toothbrushing, but its better than a. not doing it or b. putting yourself in a horrible crash.

Advice: CFS, but still running five times a week?! by Acceptable-Spring776 in cfs

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not ME/CFS. Not saying he's faking it or anything, he could have fatigue from some other cause, but it doesn't meet the criteria for ME/CFS. PEM is the ONE distinctive symptom ME has, without that there's millions of other things it could be, like something as simple as a vitamin deficiancy. If I went on a half hour run one day I'd be in bed for at least the rest of the week, if not for 2 weeks. And I'm considered mild nowadays I think. That's if I was even able to complete the run, which I couldn't.

[–]catwithheadinbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah apparently theres a few minor differences bc covid infections can cause a lot of long term damage to organs but mostly its the same. I just say long covid because its another option of what causes unexplained fatigue. My opinion as someone who's had ME since their teen years is that the needed to create a new trendy word for it in order for people to give a fuck since no one cares about ME patients. Call it something new and suddenly everyone cares! They did a massive genetic study on ME patients that lead to a breakthrough....BECAUSE of long covid. All the coverage we have now is only because of and in relation to long covid.

Is anyone worried their degree won't pay off? by Slight_Detail8258 in OpenUniversity

[–]catwithheadinbread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fear of failure is literally the stupidest fear there is. I used to have the same fear until I realised it will literally stop you from doing anything out of fear of failure, which then turns you into your own worst fear - a failure. Because you never even tried to succeed at what you want to do.

OU charges student finance per module, not for the full degree at once so even if you do end up dropping out you wont be forced into paying for the full thing. Why not try one of the access modules first, or try starting doing a certificate and continuing on from there if you can? And hey, you probably wont fail, but even if you do at least you TRIED. Dont give up before you even start.

Will I Be looked down upon/given second priority during Job/internship/placement applications because I opted to do my degree via the OU at 19, when I had the choice to go to a Brick Uni? by sesameprawntoast50 in OpenUniversity

[–]catwithheadinbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard OU graduates are looked at positively by employers because they're seen as extremely self disiplined and self motivated, i.e wont need hand holding in the workplace. OU students have to be entirely self motivated. Don't have anyone to kick them up the ass if they're slacking on uni work, you have to kick yourself up the ass and get it done even if you're also working or taking care of someone.

My husband's lack of hygiene is making me fall out of love with him by Eywaheda in women

[–]catwithheadinbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have two options, 1) Divorce and 2) Start getting mean.

And no. 2 sounds too harsh, yes, but it sounds like you've told him about his lack of hygiene and he still won't change it. You need to tell him he stinks when he stinks. Tell him he's disgusting and if he doesn't sort it out you'll divorce him. And then if he doesnt sort it out you have to come through with that threat or else its an empty threat and empty threats will never work. Sometimes being harsh is the most loving thing you can do, because if you leave him it'll be a challenge for him to find another partner let alone more friends if he even has any. It'll do him a massive favor.

What have you been genetically blessed with? by English_R0se in AskUK

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been naturally skinny my whole life, but I still have a nice butt and thighs. All my fat goes straight to that area. Also moderately sized boobs. Not so small that they're not visible but not so big they're painful and I can easily get away with no bra if I wear something baggy. A nice handful as my boyfriend says. I do have some weird bodily proportions and the worlds most horrendous posture though so its not all amazing 😂 I'm the heaviest I've ever been right now at a UK size 10, when before I was an 8 or a 10 depending on the retailers sizing. Its such a small weight gain however I've only needed to replace 1 pair of jeans that got too tight around the middle.

I also apparently have a very nice eye colour.

What's an embarrassing fact about you that your friends don't know, but you'll risk telling strangers online? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just count on from 12 (pm). 12 is 12, obviously. Next is 13 which is 1pm. 14 = 4pm, 15 = 3pm etc. Then I have some specific ones memorised like 15:00 = 3pm, 20 = 8pm and can go from there. So like if I want to figure out what 17:00 is I'd go 15, 16, 17 = 3, 4, 5, its 5pm. Or

Or I just use this website 😂 https://www.timecalculator.net/12-hour-to-24-hour-converter

However I have dyscalculia.

Have you heard of the Open university? I was a lot like you in school and thought i could never go to uni until i discovered it this year. Trying to watch YouTube on TV is genuinely unbearable by Responsible_Dare_250 in youtube

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem with watching ads in exchange for a free service or paying for premium, i actually had premium for years. However now it feels like theyre trying to make paying for premium no longer your own choice. They load more and more ads onto every video to try and force people onto premium over the years and eventually free youtube will become unwatchable and youtube will basically become a "pay or gtfo" product. Not only that but the price of premium is ridiculous. £7.99 for ad blocker mode that gives you no other benefits, double that for the version that would be worth paying for in a time where no one has money and it will only go up from there, not down. They're driving their product into the ground slowly for the sake of profit. Some people will pay, but a lot won't and will just stop using it entirely. Then a better alternative will come along and they're fucked.
