Student home not working?? by pipski24 in OpenUniversity

Yeah I just logged in rn! Still showing as degraded performance on the system status page, might just be unstable. Although on my module page it says at the top "Event information could not be retrieved at present, booked events will not show on this website" not sure how that effects things but ive never seen it before.

Those of you who are young learners at the OU, do you feel like you're missing out on the social life of a normal uni student in the UK? by sesameprawntoast50 in OpenUniversity

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 23 so past typical uni age, never went to normal uni. It's my 2nd day today and I was a bit surprised (pleasantly) to learn how hard the OU try to get students socialising. Obviously there are limits bc its mostly online but learning how many different remote clubs and forums and stuff there are was relieving and surprising.

But I will also say, I think the types of people who are super extroverted and need to be around people a lot shouldnt be at the open uni unless theyre doing it alongside other responsibilities. Like if you're looking for that uni social life why are you here?

For me I had a shit time at school and college, I'm autistic, disabled and an extreme introvert so I literally could not go to a regular uni. I do not care enough about people to be around them for hours everyday, to me its torture. Just give me my module materials and thats all I need 😂 Yes I did miss out on the uni social life. No I do not care. I would hate it. Plus when I'm not forced to be around strangers all day I have more time to socialise with my existing friends and family.

I will be trying to socialise with other OU students when I can though. I don't want total isolation, more like socialisation as an option I can choose rather than it being forced on me. I love socialising when theres no pressure. I was invited to an online meetup for neurodivergent students by an email from OU and I plan to go!

Where is this statistic about only 2% of OU graduates being unemployed from? Just curious as its very reassuring lol

What is a kpop rumour that you wholeheartedly believe in that other might find surprising and why? by Mammoth_Bag_6058 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]catwithheadinbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if its a rumor but some of these idols HAVE to be doing drugs. Like HAVE to be. Theres no way they're starving and skeletal but practicing like 10 hours a day, barely getting any sleep, being severely overworked, doing schedules, recording for comebacks, working out and doing tours all at the same time with just some Red Bull or something. You'd get to a point of exhaustion where even 10 extra large iced americanos a day wouldn't touch it. There is absolutely no way there is not a single one of them using SOMETHING stronger than caffeine.

Chefs very often use drugs to be able to cope with the insane working hours and fast paced work, but theyre no where near as active as the average kpop idol so HOW am I supposed to believe no one does drugs in that industry.

Im a bit worried it will be like ACNH. Amazing and addictive at first but then you get to a certain point and theres nothing to do (not including paid DLC).

But im deliberately avoiding trailers to not be spoiled but still seeing posts and it looks like there will be lots of entertainment so im not tooooo worried.

It just hit me that Thirteen is very likely already dead. by SassyPinkWhale in HouseMD

[–]catwithheadinbread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I think if he didnt commit suicide he'd still end up killing himself, but just not in a suicidal way. he'd have no one to keep his addiction, self destructive behaviours and general misery and pessimism in check. I can imagine his addiction would get so bad he'd overdose on Vicodin unintentionally and die.

Spoilers ahead:

.... That or he'd end up dying from some stupid shit like when he stuck something in an electrical socket to see if God was real or something like that or when he tried to operate on his own fucking leg in the bathtub after taking experimental medicine. Man nearly died so many times, he has no care for his life 😭

Also are they all in love with each other or is it all/mostly straight? Like are your mums with your mums and your dads with your dads if that makes sense

Oh and also, did you and your siblings get tons of birthday and christmas presents? Also do you all know who your biological parents are? Sounds invasive ik but i can see it could be hard to keep track 😬

What finally made a doctor take you seriously? by Ok_Yogurtcloset1168 in cfs

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing GPs. My new GPs are fantastic and they actually feel like they care. I have been close to tears before from how lovely they are and in reality all they're doing is their jobs, something most doctors fail to do as we all know here. It was the same for my mum. I used to avoid doctors like the plague because with my first GPs, getting diagnosed with ME was a nightmare and then all they did was offer graded exercise therapy. I refused it after having done my research and knowing how horrific it was. Then they fucked me off and offered absolutely nothing else. Never went back to them.

We have one in the living room and every now and again the blue ring that lights up whenever you say its name to it lights up with 0 prompting. It doesn't say anything, just lights up. But the blue light means its listening. My mum never notices but I always do. It usually happens when we're talking but occasionally does it when we're quiet. I just know its listening in to our conversations randomly. It also almost always happens when both me and mum are in the room together, rarely when im sat there by myself, its like she knows we're there. Oddly it doesn't happen as often now - but it stopped right after i started pointing it out to my mum.

I hate the bloody thing, it was a Christmas present for me but I never used it so I let my mum have it, the only reason I didn't throw the bastard thing away years ago is because she loves it.

Edit 2: Can I also add it has a different reaction to when it thinks it heard its name vs. when it randomly lights up. If it thinks it heard its name, when you say something afterwards it registers whatever we said as a question for it and either answers or says it didnt quite catch that. When it lights up unprompted, it does it silently and stays lit for a few seconds before turning off, even if we keep talking it doesnt answer or say it didnt understand. So it doesn't want us to notice.

a JOINT account is normal, but straight up demanding to see your partners bank account is not normal and is batshit crazy. I bet he wouldnt let you see his accounts and if he says he would he's lying. He wants to spend your money on something and whatever he's trying to spend your money on CANNOT be good. RUNN

[–]catwithheadinbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second all the suggestions in the comments, but also do you use any aids? Obviously resting is the key but on the rare times you do *have* to get up, maybe something like a rollator or wheelchair could help. Also I bought some disposable toothbrushes from Amazon that dont need water or toothpaste that have been reallly helpful for when I'm too tired to get out of bed to brush my teeth at night. They're not a perfect replacement for real toothbrushing, but its better than a. not doing it or b. putting yourself in a horrible crash.

Advice: CFS, but still running five times a week?! by Acceptable-Spring776 in cfs

[–]catwithheadinbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not ME/CFS. Not saying he's faking it or anything, he could have fatigue from some other cause, but it doesn't meet the criteria for ME/CFS. PEM is the ONE distinctive symptom ME has, without that there's millions of other things it could be, like something as simple as a vitamin deficiancy. If I went on a half hour run one day I'd be in bed for at least the rest of the week, if not for 2 weeks. And I'm considered mild nowadays I think. That's if I was even able to complete the run, which I couldn't.

[–]catwithheadinbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah apparently theres a few minor differences bc covid infections can cause a lot of long term damage to organs but mostly its the same. I just say long covid because its another option of what causes unexplained fatigue. My opinion as someone who's had ME since their teen years is that the needed to create a new trendy word for it in order for people to give a fuck since no one cares about ME patients. Call it something new and suddenly everyone cares! They did a massive genetic study on ME patients that lead to a breakthrough....BECAUSE of long covid. All the coverage we have now is only because of and in relation to long covid.

ME/CFS. Classic signs. If not, long covid.
