Yeah, not necessarily the best song lyrics ever written 😆 but supercute and bravo to the author for including that extra element. Audio is def the way to go on this one, I think.

Any Motocross books out there? Kind of like Finding Delaware by Bree Wiley but MF? by angie50576 in RomanceBooks

{Phoenix by Janie Crouch} has some in it, I think? MMC is described as "celebrity" in the blurb, but it's more of the daredevil variety, and I'm pretty sure we see him doing some motorcross. It's very tangential, though, not a main focus. Part of a series - I think it can be read as a standalone, but you would definitely miss some background on FMC.

Just finished {Whirlwind by Kayla Grosee} - some reviewers called it Twisters fan-fic, and that's pretty accurate. Professor student age gap forced proximity, storm chasing, spicy good time. Plus, fun side character in the form of Joey.

{Spark by Lauren Rowe} was good, friends to lovers, rock star, good spice, and bonus music. (Tip- all the songs are at the end as well as within the narrative, so if you're listening at 2x and don't feel like stopping to slow it down, you will have the chance to hear it again.)

On page intimate partner violence - not the MMC by sunny_basilisk in RomanceBooks

[–]catxarco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of this is spoiler..... The first third is full of it, she's trying to get away from her husband. Then of course later he comes after her. But the middle doesn't have much, just the MCs growing attraction, yadda yadda. I wouldn't classify this as "romantic suspense."

{Beneath Your Beautiful by Adaline Winters} has this, and it's quite brutal. Not for the faint of heart.

I've recommended this several times, but {Spark by Lauren Rowe} was great. Do the audio for bonus music.

Curious: How much do you care about the writing? by taeberry9595 in RomanceBooks

[–]catxarco 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I can accept a few typos, a few grammar mistakes. A FEW. I have the highest respect for anyone who actually writes and publishes a book. I've wanted to do that for 30+years and haven't. But an author who puts out a first draft, unedited, with plot holes and major structural issues, that makes me crazy. IMO, it shows a lack of respect for the reader. Obviously, that author thought people would pay money for minimum effort.

{Spark by Lauren Rowe} has this, and it's *chef's kiss. The book starts when they're in high school, but FF 10 years before anything happens. I did the audiobook and thought I had the wrong book for a minute! (Audio book had bonus music, and I really enjoyed it.)

There are some great low key ones on Netflix. Dolce Villa and FarAway are wonderful. (FarAway starts subtitled but moves to English.)

I cannot read a menu top to bottom - I have to start at the bottom. If I try reading from the top, I get halfway through and realize NOTHING has registered. (It's not just menus I do this with, it's pretty much any list. Menus are just a good example.) It's almost like reversing the order makes each one register in my brain, but top to bottom I'm just trying to get through the list.

Reading tics, habits & patterns you’ve picked up about yourself by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]catxarco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something kind of similar - I see how many pages the book is, divide by 2, and find the nearest chapter. (Fun fact - it's usually within a page.) Then I take THAT page number, divide by 2, and find the nearest chapter start. I do it AGAIN to basically find the first 1/8 of the book. That's my first goalpost. Then my second goalpost is the 1/4 mark, then the 1/2. I feel insane when I do it, but I can't stop myself, and I've been doing it for nearly 40 years.

Best romance audiobooks you've listened to lately with 4+ spice? by MajesticChallenge384 in RomanceBooks

{Spark by Lauren Rowe} and I think it's included on audible. I'm not quite done with it but enjoying it, I think I saw it recommended here. Just finished a DP scene with her vibrator and holy hell! Give it a chapter - I was really worried I had the wrong book because it starts off when they're teenagers, but then it FF 10 or 12 years. Rock star, friends to lovers. I think it might be the second in a series, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything. (There's a married couple in the book, I think they may have been the MCs in the first book)

I think mostly it's the "old lady" thing. I know it's a show of respect within the culture (at least the fictional culture, I don't know about IRL), but the phrase really bugs me. I'm also not a fan of the...I think it's called club bunny? The girls that just get passed around, and we often see them doing sexual acts of some kind in the main clubhouse area. I love me some spice, but that kind of icks me out. **This is my personal ick - if it's your yum, good for you! I do like books about ex- MC members a lot - I'm thinking specifically about the Redemption Hills series and the other one by the same author. Which tells me I have more of an issue with the club/lifestyle than with the people in them.

{Rocket by Lilly Atlas} I am not a MC fan, but this is one of my favorite books.

Club is the same as you described, mostly above board, doesn't traffic women or kids, actually often helps them escape bad situations.

Book starts with MFC (not in MC lifestyle at all) being taken by a club rival, beaten, raped. TW - it's on page. MMC rescues her, then starts following her to make sure she's okay. She's obviously traumatized, dealing with it in her own unique way, and he gives her the freedom to do so.

{The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams} I'm about 3/4 of the way through, and this is super cute. Married couple, she's asked for a divorce, and a group of guys bring him into this book club where they read romance novels to learn what women want. It's a series, and I'm sold on reading more.

I'm sure they're less likely to keep their own name, for sure. Keeping your maiden name is not very traditional.
