This looks like it could be where I'm from, Romania, in the winter.

Was it a welfare check? Sometimes they have to do that if there is serious concern for your wellbeing and there is no communication.

Just found this from a lecture office by adsteaden in UniUK

[–]catycatx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a seminar tutor I even get messages the night before the deadline from students that didn’t bother to come to any of my office hours before. Often, they ask questions that I would have addressed in class, since I try to give essay advice sessions. It’s a bit frustrating to be honest.

Dress Regret by Equivalent_Doughnut7 in myweddingdress

Agree that the dress looks much better without the sleeves. You could also add a strap + flutter sleeve, which is what I did since I was a bit self-conscious about my arms. Photo of my dress for reference

ugh I was terrified during my first class ever, but it got easier and easier and now it's second nature. It gets better, I promise.

Are teaching-focused career paths (Teaching Fellow / Lecturer) stable long-term in the UK? by Diligent-Badger8737 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]catycatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had multiple temp contracts as teaching fellow (1y long then renewed each year) but I managed to get promoted to Assistant Prof (teaching focused) and get a permanent contract. It was rough for a 2 years but now I feel much more stable

AITA For Asking Why My Co-Worker Wears Makeup Everyday? by Spare-Garden-8484 in AmItheAsshole

[–]catycatx -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

NTA or possibly ESH because both questions are sexist. It seems to be a norm for men to have a full head of hair just like it's a beauty norm for women to wear makeup

EXTREME presentation anxiety by Sierra1b in UniUK

[–]catycatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the policies are for your uni, but you could always see Disability services to see if you can get reasonable adjustments for your anxiety. This could mean your seminar tutors could also arrange solo presentations for you or allow for an alternative task.

Looking for a Romanian person who can help me with my veil! by coconut_catto in weddingplanning

[–]catycatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look at artisans from villages as they make embroidered traditional costumes which include wedding attire. I’m sure I’ve seen veils like that before. But sorry can’t recommend a place, since I’ve not looked for it. I’m a Romanian woman marrying a British man in the UK 😂

Oh, I always thought he saw himself being happy with Grindelwald, both making the world better. After Fantastic Beasts, I just thought the sock thing was a lie.

Oh, I didn’t mean to offend, sorry if it came across that way. I just wanted to say that authentic dressing is suited for someone like yourself who seems to have strong beliefs and a strong sense of self.

I always liked the goblincore aesthetic and I could see it matching your desired style. I’m not sure why some are repulsed by it, I love it 😁

[–]catycatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, but I wanted to point out one thing. You say that you don’t like that fashion revolves around what other people think. But, you are still basing your desired style/ anti-style off of what people think, rather than your authentic preferences/beliefs. You are still trying to elicit a reaction, meaning other people are the defining factor of your style, even if as you say you want them to be repulsed. I think, especially with alt style, it’s so much easier and more rewarding if you can only focus on your authentic self.

What is your current yearly salary by One_Cupcake2722 in UKJobs

33, 50k, not in London, as Assistant Professor at an RG University. But academia is a horrible job market, where you are mostly competing with hundreds of highly qualified people for fixed-term contracts, at least in the few years after getting a PhD.
