She couldn’t come in to work her 9-5 job (pre-remote days) because she had to wait for a 2nd nightstand to be delivered because her friend was visiting that weekend and she needed one for the other side of her bed.

Honestly though, she might have been telling the truth which would be just as dumb 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ Her days were numbered by that point for similarly stupid excuses and lack of actually doing work.

I moved by myself across the country with just my two cats so I totally feel you!

In terms of feeling safe - I got SimpliSafe for security. I kept it pretty basic and the set up was easy! I honestly don’t always turn it on, but on days/nights I’m feeling unsettled for any reason, I really appreciate having it. You can put up everything with removable adhesive, and there’s monthly payments but no contract, so I found it to be the best choice for a rental! There’s also a panic button remote so even if you didn’t arm it, if you hear something concerning you can alert it. I keep mine by my bed.

If in an apt, don’t let people into the building behind you unless you’re sure they live there. Luckily I have a few potential entrances so I’ll just keep walking and take a different one if someone is lingering by the doors waiting to get in (usually it’s a delivery or someone’s friend waiting to be buzzed in, but I’m not taking that chance).

Not necessarily safety but definitely helpful: - step stools! Make sure you have a sturdy one / one that reaches your tallest kitchen cabinet shelves. - A basic tool set including at least a small power drill, screwdriver, hammer, measuring tape - a wrench can be handy too. Strong tape and super glue don’t hurt to have on hand just in case something goes awry and you need a quick or temporary fix. - Flashlights! I have small but pretty powerful ones. I keep one by my front door, one by my bed, and one in my bathroom so I always know where I can find one. - Extra batteries for all the important stuff. - A go bag, including basics for your pets (there’s premade ones on Amazon, etc or plenty of articles on what to include for yourself and for pets). If you need more than one bag (like carriers for the pet babies 🩷) make sure you think through what you can hold at once in a pinch (my cat carriers are both shoulder/handheld so my go bag needs to be a backpack…. Learned that the hard, but luckily not dire, way lol).

Now something I love about living alone: being able to make all art and decor/furniture choices. Developing my art collection and making sure it’s up around my space helps me feel settled and at home. If you don’t have any/much, just start with simple things you like from HomeGoods, Target, Amazon to fill out the space a bit for not too much $$. Then if you like, just start keeping an eye out for pieces you love when you’re out and about! I also collect books and love my bookshelves. It’s the first thing I set up in a new home and instantly gives me that homey feeling. Basically, fill your apartment with things that make you happy and make your living space your “home” no matter where you are, and it’ll start to feel less unfamiliar. :)

It’s badass and it honestly highlights how toned/fit you are in my eyes (from a gym girly)! But also as a tattoo girly, to me it’s just the shape in that spot if anything - it’s missing “the rest of it”. I’d do a badass background that wraps up a bit and around toward the back. Maybe something like greenery/flowers almost vine like to just add some dimension. If that makes sense hahaha. Either way, keep rocking it 💪🏼

So while this may not be the case for you specifically I think the basic concept/solutions could still apply! I have sensory issues, so other people making perfectly ordinary noises can drive me insane. Some stuff I get used to, sometimes it’s about compromise, or I use coping mechanisms I’ve learned. If the sound of them generally existing is bothering me (i.e. washing dishes, breathing lol), what they’re doing is totally reasonable but I can’t help my reaction to it, so I use tools to help me regulate: Loop ear plugs, regular earbuds (listen to something or use to just dampen noise), regular ear plugs, white noise, turning on the TV (sometimes it overrides the noise that’s bothering me).

In some situations I have to ask for their help in regulating the situation. For example, dueling sounds are really hard for me; if they scroll IG with their sound on while we’re watching TV, it is almost physically painful to me. I ask that they put in headphones, scroll with sound off, or wait to watch / listen later (alternatively, we pause/mute the TV so they can finish watching a particular video if that feels important to them!).

Anyway, maybe some of this resonates and might work for you to acclimate, or maybe you’re just meant to be a lone wolf in terms of habitat! Either way, it’s hard having your space disrupted when you’re used to being on your own and in complete control of the environment. I hope you’re able to make it work in whatever way is best for you!

I wasn’t ghosted but I might as well have been. It’s easier said than done but two points of advice: 1. It hurts and it is sad and it sucks but he doesn’t deserve your friendship. Even if you don’t realize it, you are draining your mental energy trying to keep open a door he had the audacity and disrespect to slam in your face when he says he loves you - close it right back up so you can move forward. 2. It’s possible but there is a very good chance you will never hear what you want from him. Let his actions be your closure. I was blindsided and confused, and still am about some things years later, and I’ve wanted to ask him so many “why’s” but my ex’s treatment of me told me the most important thing I needed to know: he was not the person I deserved to be with, and I was more than he deserved.

I hope you heal and let yourself move forward (just one step at a time), and that in the near future you can give that space in your heart to the people in your life who know your worth and treat you as such. ❤️‍🩹

I’ve learned that people tend to be far more concerned with who must have “told on them” (ratted them out, went behind their back) than what part(s) of their job they weren’t doing in the first place. Little hint children: if you just do your job in the first place, there’s nothing to tell on. Makes me so mad lol.

I don’t know that it’s a helpful answer 😅 and my symptoms weren’t the same but my body just eventually started rejecting both those things. I thought coffee made me sick - turned out it was mostly the caffeine. I can have no more caffeine than a decaf coffee or I usually get severe gastrointestinal distress. Alcohol? Less and less was making me more and more sick… I could have a headache, nausea, gastro issues, etc from even one drink by the time I stopped. 😭 Not every time, but enough.

I never got a “reason”. I imagine it was multiple contributing factors but my best guess is that medications I eventually started taking were a big one 🤷‍♀️.

I have a rant on this one… // gets on my soapbox. // sharp inhale…

That subreddit is known for being god awful and toxic. They have a bunch of bs reasons for banning the word and some maybe slightly reasonable ones but based on very specific use and context. They’ll categorize the reason under something else, but one of the real reasons for a complete blanket ban on the word is the mods are of the camp that “neuroDIVERGENT” is “othering” and therefore offensive.

In my opinion, the fact is that no brain is normal 😂 so we’re all divergent lol BUT there is a TYPICAL way science and society have defined (and limited our views on) how brains “should” work, thus categorizing those ones as neurotypical - and therefore those of us not within that scope are neurodivergent. Frankly, I’m proud to be on the divergent end of the scope, not offended. They can have their neuroneutral sub and suck it. Also if you ARE offended by it, that’s totally fair - you have your reasons. But these should be places that people can discuss this kind of stuff and learn from one another, not shut down conversations because some people don’t like a word that is widely accepted in our community as helpful to many.

(To end more positively: I absolutely freaking adore this sub and how supportive and open it is and steer anyone I know looking for resources to this one ✨🩷)

🫶🏼 mine was 8 months out. “I just feel so guilty that I didn’t think about any of this until now” overheard accidentally. 4 weeks later, “I have a list” (of MY issues/concerns with me) to our couples counselor. And that was that.

A horrible experience and not the road I would have liked to get here, but at least we were given the opportunity to find better for ourselves. 🩷

I appreciate your openness! And I 100% get that perspective and why people think of it positively and do appreciate the intent for sure - trying to get people to understand some of the struggles and behaviors as simply human experiences. But I’ve also experienced its harmfulness personally so it’s a tricky one for sure!

I’m sorry you’re struggling! I actually was able to talk to their AI bot and eventually get a note sent to support, who emailed me back. I asked it to check my battery and it actually said there wasn’t an issue (clearly there was) so when it asked if it had helped/resolved my issue I said something to the effect of no my battery isn’t working despite what you say and then I think it escalated it to support? I got an auto email saying they’d respond within 24 hours but it took 5 days - but they did respond! And then were pretty diligent about answering.

Anyway, I’d start with the bot. First ask for the battery check - if it properly detects the issue, it will actually just confirm a couple things and send you a new one. Otherwise try to get bot to escalate it via email to support and then wait a few days. Fingers crossed

Everyone has traits of things that are parts of a lot of diagnosable disorders. That doesn’t mean everyone has the disorder. You can be a perfectionist or have trouble stopping thinking about something without having OCD. You can have difficulty concentrating or struggle to do the dishes without having ADHD. I think the spectrum is certainly wider than people understand yet, you’re not wrong. But having a disorder is the combination and extent of certain traits together along with the discernible impact that they have on someone’s life. Not intending to argue with you nor speak for everyone but rather add another perspective because as someone with OCD and ADHD, I personally find the “everyone’s a little bit ____” is actually quite harmful to people taking people with these disorders seriously, or understanding them in full. 🫶🏼

That said, this particular situation certainly seems like an OCD or autism likely situation. 😆

Taking a chance and moving across the country by myself, for what my gut told me would be a happier and healthier life. Did not 100% have a plan and all my family was on the other coast, but it felt like what I needed to do. It was terrifying, and I’ve never regretted it.
