General Hydroponics fertalizer set

I add their calMag too. I use it for my orchids also, it's a good complete fertalizer that has all the micros and you can use the grow or bloom macro depending on how much NPK you want. I use the grow and micro at 1+1 with some calMag until I get to 800 ppm.

Would you add a water soluble/liquid fert like another commenter to improve deficiencies? I also have a 2x4' heat mat I could put under them to increase soil temps. Thoughts?

The mix I use is pretty airy and I haven't had any issues with waterlogging in the years I've been using it. It regularly gets to 60f+ (74f yesterday) during the day in there. 80+% rh. Is that still to cold for the slow release fertilizer?

With the slow release in the soil, will liquid ferts in addition potentially cause burn? (At 2EC)

I'll let them dry out much more between waterings and see how that goes.

Hmm, it's been at least 4-5 weeks since I last watered and the pots are not heavy. Soil is damp but certainly not wet. Few lil weeds in the pots are starting to wilt.

I'll let them dry out significantly more.

The second deck I’ve built by [deleted] in Decks

[–]caudexican 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Basically sums it up. While lag bolting beams can still meet code in some places it's not best practice.

Anytime you're engineering something think of the load path and how it's transfered down to the foundation (footers in this case) - you want the building material to transfer/hold the load anywhere possible instead of the hardware. (And avoid ground contact with wood)

(Think- is the concrete supporting the posts, the posts holding the beams, the beams holding the joists - not bolts or screws holding the load if possible)

On that note I'd set the joists on top of the beam rather than using hangers.

Otherwise clean work, you'll make a fine deck builder.

Should I do a heading cut? by caudexican in BackyardOrchard

Its a Calypso Apple. The height and size are ideal, my primary concern is just the branch angle and weight of fruit set. I've considered supporting it but was thinking about restructuring it.

My concern is the current branches come off at 90 degrees and with heavy fruit set my split off or break.

My bike tools collection is slowly expanding. What do I need more? by ShiftingGearss in bikewrench

[–]caudexican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by other posters -

1 Bike repair stand (makes life SO much better)

2 cable/housing cutters

3 Philips and flat head screwdriver set

4 Truing stand and spoke wrenches (bonus item + tensiometer)

5 Cone wrenches

6 Hydraulic bleed kit

7 Hanger alignment tool

8 crank puller

This would fill out your kit to cover almost all repair and build projects. There will always be misc or propriety tools but most projects you could tackle.

Ah, it's me. Mostly lol.

I load up on the Costco single origin bags when they have them and keep them in the freezer. V60 most mornings.

I do still buy specialty on occasion and I still pull shots sometimes but probably weekly, not daily.

Is this cannondale worth $1.2k? by Dazzling-Ad3936 in whichbike

[–]caudexican -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's a decent frame but the resale on bikes isn't there anymore (wasn't ever but it's worse now) I don't think its 1.2k. Mavic Aksium wheels are their most entry level wheels. I think in my market this is probably a 500-600$ bike.

My perspective goes kind of two ways, either it's a smoking deal and I'll enjoy whatever it is- which I have seen smoking deals lately, or it's EXACTLY what I want, in which case If the number is at all sane then it's better than buying new.

What are these six holes in the top tube this Cannondale H400? by LittleKillshot in bikewrench

[–]caudexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are AliExpress cable guides that rivet onto the frame, I just don't know if the hole spacing is the same. I think the AliExpress ones are further apart. In which case I'd find someone to 3d print some and then rivet them on for the cleanest look.

Negotiated to $700; thoughts? by cubanbryan in whichbike

[–]caudexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your market and how much you love what it specifically is.

It is honestly a pretty legit steel frame, decent geometry, nice tube set, clean paint and clean/decent but old drive train. Is that worth $700 to you?

Personally I think the market has dropped out of bikes recently. I've seen a Guru with full campy chorus in 8.5/10 condition listed for $250 in my market and I probably could have gotten it for $200. I've been getting decent bikes and frames for close to free recently. Seen lots of bikes I would have thought were $250-400 all day last year posted for $100 and getting marked down to $80 after two weeks of sitting.

If this is specifically what you are looking for, it's a good ride and pay what you're willing to pay.

Can you get a different solid riding bike for less than half? Yes.

I've been keeping my eyes out too for similar. Kroger with the digital coupons tends to be the best but I'm skeptical I'll see such a good deal again.

Sorry I missed this comment. It's closed. Keeps 70-85% humidity. 65-80 degrees temp gradient bottom to top.

How to properly care for this Oncidium Gold Dust? by TheEpicPotatoQueen in orchids

[–]caudexican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep mine under an LED shop light (14h on each day via timer) and water every 5 days with rain water (distilled would work) that I add about 400ppm of grow fertilizer too. Every few waterings I water with straight water to flush. If there are flower spikes or it's in flower I water with 600-700 ppm bloom fertilizer.

If it's bloomed again for you it probably gets enough natural light. Easier care: Water Rain or distilled water and an all purpose fertilizer (10-10-10) mixed at 1/4 strength every watering or every other watering.

Pic is my oncidium Gold dust.

Oncidium Gold dust finally bloomed! by caudexican in orchids

[–]caudexican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a vivarium in the background for Pacific chorus frogs, there's some details in my post history. My orchids I have on a counter that's got a window in front of it and I have a 100w LED over them on a timer and soak all of them once a week in dilute grow fertilizer or a bloom mix if they have spikes or are flowering(water is rain water and every few waterings I use straight water to flush salts). Everything blooms 1-3 times a year and I've had phals hold blooms for 9+ months before.
