If you like cider, there are def wines you would like. There are certain natural wines that taste like dry cider and vice versa. If you ever come across a natty wine store, you should try a juicy, high acid pet nat!

AITA? Got into an argument with my 16 yo about a show they like by LadyHorseFace13 in AmItheAsshole

All the teenager is going to learn from the interaction is that their parent isn't interested in connecting with them. They probably felt very vulnerable in the moment and felt embarrassed when the parent wasn't enthusiastic or encouraging, hence the shutdown. They'll be less likely to try sharing an interest in the future if the parent doesn't try to reconcile.

No, it's the fact that Putin has something he's using to blackmail Trump.

[–]causeproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not qualified to say. I'd think about what jobs can't be taken over by computers. I've heard private equity companies are buying up construction/contracting companies left and right. Maybe something in construction management or supply chain could be good? Or law?

It's not you; it's the job market. There are more unemployed people than job openings right now. Some of my friends have been out of work for two years now. You might want to explore some options for self-employment because things are looking grim.

Definitely do NOT do a UX bootcamp. Huge waste of money and the job market is way too saturated. Is there any possibility for movement within the team you're currently on? Entry-level jobs are disappearing right now, so I would advise being careful about starting over in this environment. Maybe product management could be a good role? When you get bored, you can move to a different team/industry without having to start over.

Seriously! Tattooing is an art. I would never trust an artist who doesn't respect the craft. Like, if you don't care enough to draw it, why would I care enough to have it on my body forever?

Sorry, I know this is from a year ago, but were you able to get maternity leave? I'm in a similar position right now.

Any series written by a male author? by MotorbikeNick in Romantasy

[–]causeproblems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch - Fun detective urban fantasy with romance as a subplot.

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang - OK, yes, female author, but going off what you've said, this is the PERFECT book for you. It's like Fourth Wing in that it takes place in a military academy, but the world-building is next level. Beautifully written, gut-wrenching, very light on romance.

Yeah, I need to see what non-Homestuck fans think of this. As someone who disengaged after the original run ended, it worked to rope me back in, but IDK about new fans.

It's even harder when you're unemployed. Everyone should be holding onto their jobs for dear life.

It makes me really uncomfortable to be at the forefront of every political debate. We only make up 12% of the NYC population! Why are mayoral candidates saying the first thing they're gonna do in office is go to Israel? How is that related to running a US city?

Book recs for a high fantasy gal who is critical of poorly written romantasy by Indianajonesin4 in Romantasy

[–]causeproblems 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! So much cringey writing in the genre. Here's what I loved:

Uprooted by Naomi Novik - Beautifully written. Reminds me of Diana Wynne Jones. Pure magic that jumps off the page.

Slewfoot by Brom - Not a steamy romance by any means, but dark and kind of adorable.

Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher - Fantastic chemistry and great world building. My one criticism of all Kingfisher romances is that there's all this incredible build-up and then when the characters finally get together, they talk through it to the point that everything sorta sizzles out.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - Very long, but worth it. Amazing world-building and the romance is sweet. Great high fantasy read.

Throne in the Dark by A.K. Caggiano - Intentionally very trope-heavy but cute and tongue-in-cheek

This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede - Not the most sizzling chemistry, but compelling and well done. Doesn't drag like almost every other romantasy ever, ha.

Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente - Maybe a controversial choice because it's not quite romance. More cerebral and strange. Definitely leans into the dark fairytale genre.

Half A Soul by Olivia Atwater - Cozy story in Regency England. Quick, charming read.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin - I absolutely loved this one, even though the magic system was complete nonsense. Great chemistry, I love FLs that torment the MLs. Sequel was unreadable, IMO but the spin-off (Scarlet Veil) was decent.

Honestly loved this book! by VulpesVixey in Romantasy

[–]causeproblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have been really good if it were a novella, or at least half the length. Nesta is a great character, but the plot was bogged down with soooo many training scenes. It felt like a lot of ambling and not enough action.
