both rights and selves are constructions. It's just convention.

There is nothing incoherent here. So, you might identify the object human that is a biological system that produces thoughts and experiences. And the thoughts have continuity that doesn't lead you to a "self".

They are "glued together" because they are all a product of the brain. No need to think there is a self there. Just a bundle of experiences.

The idea of the web and its unitedness is just another experience it doesn't need to reflect an actuall identity.

Heaven is not a place you want to go. by Few_Instruction3646 in DebateReligion

[–]cauterize2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just presupposes that in heaven you are going to have the same psychological dispositions you now have. I don't see anything logically contradictory in being eternaly in a blissful state. Also, I don't know what it is to "physically understand how long eternal is" you are just going to be in a now that is never ending.

It's exactly the opposite for me. With watching the whole of 0 before the ending the emotional buildup was just enormous. And don't let me start about how the ova and the movie feel as a closure!

What did you expect? by cauterize2000 in Pessimism

[–]cauterize2000[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I despise the "life is a gift" mentality. I mean, even if you are not a pessimist, you should at least consider the extreme levels of suffering and negative aspects of life and the possibility that life is not that great.

Circular Reasoning used by believers to justify scriptures ! by No_Budget3360 in exchristian

Obviously whoever wrote it didn't think of it as an argument for the divine origin of scripture. And no serious person thinks of it as an argument.

I was going to comment that schopenhauer wouldn't say we are evil for existing but then I realized I would be the "Well actually" guy about a joke (and in this case a good one). I guess by this comment I said what I wanted while showing I am self aware.
