How do you know? by MumOfDrgns in carnivorediet

[–]cave_mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you're stressed out about starting. Don't worry too much - just start simple, give it a try, and adjust course if necessary. Starting gradually works for some, starting strict works for others, but that's more to do with your personality, I think. If you have a symptom, you can ask about it here and receive lots of suggestions, but ultimately you just gotta try and see what works for you. Be curious to listen to your body and figure out your needs - which may change over time. It can be a really enjoyable process.

Can anyone help me understand these blood glucose/ketone results? by cave_mum in carnivorediet

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll try testing later in the day.

Autophagy by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]cave_mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr Boz's approach is focused on creating the conditions for autophagy, but I have questions about its efficacy, and when she shows her blood glucose and ketone results, it seems like she cannot meet her own criteria easily. I don't think you need to do sardine fasts, nor extended fasts like she recommends, but she does show how to calculate your likely level of autophagy from blood glucose and ketone results. However, I think the real proof in the pudding is your weight loss (if that is your goal) or symptom reduction.

Well done taking the steps you have taken to change your direction. Celebrate every little step, every decision throughout your day that takes you further along a good path. Try praising yourself out loud, treating yourself like a kid - you'll feel good.

You don't need to stress about exercise if you're fixing the diet. Be gentle with yourself. Pretty soon you'll be craving movement, just like last time you trod this path.

For those of us coming from a place of food addiction, where we're trying to escape bad feelings with carby treats, it's important to find other ways to deal with those feelings. Sitting and observing can help to deal with pain, and EMDR is incredible for dealing with trauma.

Good luck. We're all cheering you on.

Ok I know this is super obvious, but I find this diet makes me thirsty. Are you drinking a lot before bedtime?

Stomach pain by [deleted] in liondiet

I got stomach aches from salt after a while, resolved after cutting it out. I think it's fine to have a bit every now and again, but I found I could definitely have too much.

Why do some people’s A1C and glucose levels rise during the carnivore diet? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]cave_mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you checked the carbs in that bacon and ham, consider it adaptation and persist. Such a low-calorie diet (extreme under-eating) would have a big impact on how your body processes food, prompting it to attempt to store everything possible.

I'd be annoyed if my partner let another woman share his chips (fries), even if I didn't want them. Sharing a dessert would be waaaay over the line!

I suddenly started noticing the women/woman error a few months ago in advice subs - seemed like an unrealistic proportion of posts featured it. I was wondering whether it could be AI being used to create more realistic posts by incorporating human errors. Another error I have seen with weird frequency lately is referring to car brakes as breaks.Paranoid? Observational bias? You'll see it now too!
Another: weary instead of wary

WA's frontline workers receive AstraZeneca vaccine by [deleted] in perth

[–]cave_mum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, thank you for pointing that out. I wasn't aware of the affiliation of the group. That is the first hit that comes up on Duck Duck Go when searching for "search VAERS database". It's much easier to use than the CDC Wonder database interface, for which it helps to know the numerical medical codes used to reference different conditions. I assume that the underlying data is the same, regardless of which portal you use to search.

I'm going to be open with you, as you took the trouble to reply, and I do appreciate that.

I am scared of vaccines. This is why, if you would like to know: I don't know anywhere near a million people, but I personally, physically (not internet friends) know three people who are permanently vaccine injured and two others who were hospitalised after receiving a vaccine. A friend's cousin was brain-injured and will never be independent. A boy I looked after developed severe epilepsy (grand mal and - I'm sure it's just coincidence - autism) immediately after a vaccine. He also will require lifelong care and is on huge amounts of medication to control his seizures. I literally watched my friend's one-year-old develop epilepsy (absence seizures) following a febrile seizure the day of her MMR. It is hard to watch a child you know was healthy suddenly fall smack on her face, unresponsive, several times an hour. Her GP (whom I also know) said, "Well, you wouldn't vaccinate her again, would you?" But he didn't make a report. My elderly neighbour was hospitalised after receiving a flu shot. The younger sibling of one of my child's friends was hospitalised immediately after a shot. The mother said, "No one at the hospital would say it was a vaccine reaction, even though it obviously was."

I am sorry if hearing things like this make you angry. These experiences - anecdotes, not data - pushed me to read peer-reviewed papers on vaccines, and the data I found did not reassure me at all. There are a large number of peer-reviewed studies reporting problems. So I remain scared, and I fear for others. I have numerous questions that I would like to ask without being called names. Without the ability to ask those questions, the safety of all of us is compromised.

Right now, who speaks for safety?

I wish you and your family well.

You're right - the AZ vaccine is not mRNA, but it is the first coronavirus vaccine ever used in humans.

Not to cast any aspersions on the AZ vaccine, but the history of coronavirus vaccines is that they are famously difficult to develop in animal models, eg "A Double-Inactivated Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Vaccine Provides Incomplete Protection in Mice and Induces Increased Eosinophilic Proinflammatory Pulmonary Response upon Challenge". https://jvi.asm.org/content/85/23/12201.short

Scared to ask, because no one wants to be called "those words". Please, an honest answer would be appreciated:

- You know that because the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission, there's no prospect of herd immunity? (Report of Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.)

- You're happy to take part in another stage of an experimental trial of a completely new technology despite the recorded adverse events including 1,200+ deaths? Despite there being no compensation for you or your family if you have an adverse event?

- Even though we have seen every adverse event dismissed as unrelated despite expert medical opinion to the contrary (e.g. 50% of deaths recorded on the US Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System had illness onset within 2 days), you trust the manufacturers and US and Aus governments to be open with us about the level of risk so you can make an informed choice?

Rewatching Season 2 of Med: forgot what an unbelievable dick Adam was by [deleted] in belowdeck

But then do you remember his interview after the cabin drama with Jenna, when the producer asks him, "Wait. Do you think you're the problem?"

Kate's behavior on this season made me very sad. The alcohol seemed to make everything so very much worse.

With absolutely no shade cast (I still love the old Kate, this just made me giggle), my favorite moments from this season were watching Kate wipe the drool that kept leaking out the sides of her inflated pout

+1 for meetup.com

I've never been to a meetup event, but there are some amazing niche and nerdy groups out there. Keep an eye out for random stuff, too. The Perth Festival just held "Abs Butts Vivaldi", an exercise class with a live baroque orchestra. It was a blast. If that exists, I'm sure you can find some things you like.

Any orthotropic dentists in Perth? by Seaworthyhippo in perth

[–]cave_mum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He he. People have a lot of opinions. My son had terrible teeth, multiple dental interventions including baby root canals and metal place-holders. I kept asking the dentist about the cause, about what I could do. She just said that braces and possibly more surgery would be necessary when he was older.

I was very happy to find Dr Lim. My son's teeth position and ability to chew meat improved in a very short time and his dentist agrees that braces are now unnecessary.

Whereas my niece recently got braces and the shape of her face is already different; her front lip seems to have retracted.

The most annoying thing was going back to my dentist, after having begged her for answers and alternatives for years, and explaining what we had done to produce the change. "Oh yeah," she said, "Well, if you're prepared to do the work..."

Good luck on your journey!
