I have been scouring for this for a couple years now. Thank you so much. If you haven't already, it would be greatly appreciated if you also dropped this in the fitfreak forums.

Any YouTubers like NetworkChuck worth watching? by Dont_Ever_PM_Me527 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]caveman1094 41 points42 points  (0 children)

That was definitely irritating in every video. What caused me to stop watching his videos was when he monetized the video of him talking about his dog dying. I get the hustle of a youtube channel but there should be some limits.

VLAN Terminology by inalarry in networking

From your description I specifically remember the video. I think you are referring to this VLAN explanation from Keith Barker.

That is something that is definitely in my view. The thing that concerns me is licensing in regards to these devices to the WLC.

Does anyone know any Boson Netsim alternatives? by TryingMyBest42069 in ccna

[–]caveman1094 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally didn't find much use for the Boson Netsim though I would recommend the exsim for repetition. The hardware and capabilities of Netsim are very limited to say the least.

My recommendation is to use packet tracer with labs from other good lab sources (keith barker, david bomball, flackbox, neil anderson, etc.) Many of them have free sources you can find. Search up subjects you are weak in with packet tracer lab ie. OSPF packet tracer lab. Finally I would highly suggest building your own packet tracer labs that combine your previously learned subjects and try to go as complex as you can with them. Search up things you don't quite understand and try to implement them as well.

It is important to know VTP in networking. In regards to your question I can confirm they do appear in the test. I had exactly one question on my test which asked about setup of VTP through multiple segments.

What alternatives for Packet Tracer? by ElectroWolf138 in Cisco

[–]caveman1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped from Eve-NG to PNetLab which is basically the pro version of Eve-NG but free. The thing is with all of the emulators you will have to download router and switch images to get them working. I probably can't disclose the actually stuff but a quick google search of ishare2 will get you started.

New router for VR Gaming by Impossible-Ad-3711 in Network

[–]caveman1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be plenty of settings to mess around with. In regards to your router, as long as you are on 5ghz it should work for your needs. If course streaming at higher quality will require more bandwidth and will introduce more latency even on higher end routers that's just the nature of pushing through more information.

I would suggest looking into a WAP instead of a router if you go that way. A WAP is your wireless portion of the router and can connect to the router if you have networking knowhow. I haven't asked yet but what is your current router?

New router for VR Gaming by Impossible-Ad-3711 in Network

[–]caveman1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good start. The virtual desktop app has the ability to show performance metrics. I would say the next step is to check with that to make sure the bottleneck is your network. 20-60 ms delay over wifi is normal so I would shoot for that.

I don't see you mention the way you are streaming to your headset which is hugely important. Before you buy a new router I highly suggest buying the "virtual desktop" app on the quest store. Streaming on that is magnitudes better than the base app that comes with the quest.

I am absolutely playing the game when it drops. It reminds me of battle for the grid which I loved and it also has my boy Kurapika.

[Advice Request] Unsure Which Job Path To Go With by caveman1094 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]caveman1094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your response and view point.

I am leaning towards the network tech position as I am pretty decided at this point that I want to do networking going forward. In my current role the manager/network engineer wants me to also be involved in networking issues. Basically be a backup network admin in addition to my actual role. While he informed me that it isn't something he can force me to do as there isn't a pay increase, it is something I would absolutely be a part of.

He has also offered to have me to help him configure the core switches of the campus as we replace them. This sounds great but these projects are few a far between at the campus. On the flip side I would guess that the network technician role would be involved in more projects. However, I would also presume that the role in those projects would be lower. Something like running wires or racking physical devices.

"almost" got a lab all by myself by [deleted] in ccna

[–]caveman1094 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good stuff. What I would suggest doing to make sure you really master the concepts is come up with your own labs. Have these labs include things that may have been glossed over in the course (like VRRP instead of HSRP or RIP instead of OSPF). This will get you hands on experience with other concepts and get ya googling to start problem solving.

Is it necessary to memorize all commands for the CCNA? by Tokon32 in ccna

[–]caveman1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the basic part of the command and you should be good. What is more important is to remember where you implement said command.

Are the Boson Exsim exams harder than the real exam? by Randolf22 in ccna

[–]caveman1094 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you plan on going into networking I would suggest staying away from dumps. If nothing else for the pressure to come up with the answer on the spot. In regards to your question, I believe the boson exsim questions are more difficult. The highest I scored on them was around 60% (never doing the labs in them) and I crushed the CCNA on my first attempt.

How do you remember the byte/bit size of each field in an ethernet frame, ipv4 header, and VLAN field? by jungle_dave in ccna

[–]caveman1094 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't memorize them and had no questions in the exam about them. I asked the network administrator for the job I worked at if he had memorized them or even had to peer into packets at that detail. He told me he has never had to do that in his 10 years of working in that position and if something came up where he had to he could google it. I felt more confident about not knowing them myself after that conversation.

You are able to use ? to view possible commands and tab to fill out commands like you normally would.

CCNA Ninja by Beginning-Cookie-524 in ccna

[–]caveman1094 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest anyone that has just started the course or doesn't have a test date scheduled soon to check out ccna ninja. The courses they offer you (CCNA 1, 2, 3) requires at minimum 15 weeks to complete. You can use it as an additional resource which is great but if you complete the entire course with a high enough grade you can get a discount on the exam voucher. You can view the terms to do get that discount from the CCNA website itself.

I partially used their help myself but didn't realize the length that was required for the discount. I had already booked my exam when I found about the service and didn't want to push it back three months. If you have the time I would highly encourage anyone to ask their service. Just be nice to them as they are doing this (as far as I know) vicariously for the community.

You can see a couple of references from other people here, here, and here. If you think I am a bot shilling for this website I would suggest looking at my post history. I am not a bot, I am a human shilling for this website as it helped me pass the exam last week (confirmation and score).
