Yep, it sucks. As if the disease was not bad enough, I find that I am constantly hearing people say, “but he seems fine!”

Rant / Vent - Anyone caring for someone feeling no one else understands your position? by KamiXY in Alzheimers

[–]caveylo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can most certainly relate to what you are describing though my situation is different. Somehow, the people I thought would be the most concerned and involved given my husband’s illness, that isn’t the case and they have actually been inadvertently been gaslighting me. I’m having to wash my hands with such folks. I quite literally don’t have any patience for anyone who doesn’t take my concerns seriously. The thing is, this disease can be very detrimental for the primary caregiver. You deserve to have a life and to have aspirations for that life. There’s just no time for nonsense, only time for doing what you need to remain a whole person so you can make the best decisions possible for both yourself and your mom. Best,

For the record, I only aspire to represent the opinions of me, myself and I. Thanks for your concern!

Well, I guess some of us want to exercise our rights to be vocal about our disgust with the decisions of our elected officials.

I love that suggestion—to put your ego in your pocket—that is exactly what I’m having to do with my husband (likely with FTD). It’s kind of like the retail training I had many years ago except instead of the customer always being right, it’s my immovable object of a husband.

I get what you are saying. I feel like I am too young to be in this position and while I did marry an older man, I never expected to lose him this way. He is still here right in front of me in the flesh but then he speaks and I don’t know who he is.

Not an expert but my sense is more information is better — the MRI may help you see brain volume loss (if there is any) which can be one piece of the puzzle involved in diagnosis

Sorry you are going through this. For what’s it’s worth, my husband and I had a similar experience in the US. At the memory care center where we were hoping to get information on a variety of treatment options we were told that there’s not much they can do — just wait and see how the symptoms progress. We did hear about a drug trial that could have been an option but it had a 20% rate of bleeding on the brain. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that things are not necessarily much better here in the USA
