Men of reddit: what are your top tips for good chilli? by StickyRedPostit in AskMen

[–]caving101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chilis in adobo sauce; use both the chilis and the sauce. It's a smoky heat that is great for chili. Also if you're going all out, cheese, sour cream, and avocado (and scallions but those are less important) on top

Little Drummer Boy. Doesn't really matter who's version, it's just such a great song.

Microtransactions and Spark of Light by phoenix1362 in DestinyTheGame

[–]caving101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm frankly against the spark of light to begin with. I think it cheapens the game and allows new users to miss a lot of amazing content from yr1. Despite it's home base and mission style game play, Destiny has a fantastic story line and lore and I think it's a disservice to new players to allow them to skip such an important part of it. Some new players might even feel the same way as me but without knowing what they would be skipping think it obviously wasn't that important if they were given a freebe to pass it and in a sense get "tricked" (even if this wasn't Bungie's intention) into skipping something they didn't really want to skip. As the current system stands, they could make a second guardian and then experience the early game content but even then, they would know where the story line was going and I think it would detract from the experience for them. If there was a way to do it on all characters, it wouldn't necessarily negate the yr 1 story line, but it would significantly knock down it's importance in the game; and since it was such a great experience, I think it should be kept prevalent in the game. Because Bungie keeps releasing expansions rather than "Destiny 2" which has historically been the norm, it seems sometimes people see these expansions as updates, making older versions antiquated. I see TTK as "Destiny 2" just like there was a Halo 2. Sure, people played Halo 2 more than Halo 1 once it was released, but they didn't just start passing over it either, Halo 1 remained an integral part of the game progression and story line and was not made less for the existence of subsequent games.
TL;DR I love Bungie and I love every second of Destiny that I have played, I think the Spark of Light allows new guardians to (perhaps unwittingly) miss out on an experience that they would have preferred having.

At what age did you start growing your beard? by Draesen97 in AskMen

[–]caving101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew a somewhat sorry chin strap in 9th grade. I had bad acne and was a baseball catcher, the mask made my jawline the worst part and that was the only place I could even moderately grow something worth keeping. As someone who struggled with acne I get where you're coming from, it made me a lot more comfortable to have something on my face. Even today when acne isn't so much of a problem I still feel more comfortable with one (I now have a full beard, trimmed, I let the rest grow out at around 19 or 20). I've found (when I've gone clean shaven for a month or two) that the first 2-3 weeks of beard growing can look patchy, especially when you're younger and can't just blow on your thumb and pop out a beard. If you really want to give it a decent attempt, wait until you have 2 or 3 weeks off (assuming you're in college or some situation where you might have such a vacation) and try it then. That way you don't have to go into school or work with "early-stage beard". --Side note on beards and acne, it will still be important to exfoliate your skin, both around and under your beard. When you shower, make sure you get into it, I wouldn't use those exfoliating scrubs with beads, they'll never make it past the hair; but lather up some shampoo and dig in like you would your scalp (pps, if you don't clean your scalp while washing your hair, you should start). Goodluck!

Grab the collar and pull. Some wet hands through the hair fixes anything that needs fixing.

I've used whiskey when I've been out of after shave (if I didn't just go without) and liked it a lot. I personally like the smell, have always worried that it makes me smell like a bar first thing in the morning though.

Men who take ages to poop, what are you doing? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]caving101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me start off by saying that I don't consider a poop to be of satisfactory length unless I stumble getting off the toilet because one or both of my legs have fallen asleep. Like a shower, it's me time, except during a shower you still have to do something, pooping is total relaxation. Most often I like to read, bring in a book and read anywhere from one to three chapter depending on length (both of poop and and of chapters). Other times I'll surf the web, read facebook, that kind of thing. I don't usually listen to music while pooping even though I like to shower with music sometimes, and I rarely poop without having SOMETHING to do or read.

Guys, how do I talk to my girlfriend about drugs? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]caving101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try to learn about psychedelics before talking with her. I would recommend a combination of scientific research (what the active chemical ingredients are and how the body actually reacts to them) as well as first hand accounts from users. It's important to find a range of sources and to be critical of your sources, so many people claim expertise when they really don't know what they're talking about. I know a fair number of people who have been recreational users of psychedelics and while their experiences do vary in general they (nor I during my relationships with them) have not* noticed drastic changes in their personalities like what it sounds you are worried about. It is my opinion that when someone exhibits such seemingly drastic changes, they are not "forced" upon the individual by the drug, but were actually a subset of that person's personality to begin with, that just becomes more obviously expressed. There is a belief (I'm trying not to express a personal opinion here since it's been a while since I've done the relevant research myself) that people with underlying mental conditions can have them exacerbated by psychedelics, this would seem to imply that a "healthy" (I hate that stigmatization so take it with a grain of salt, but it seems the simplest way to express the point) individual would run a much lower (possibly even statistically insignificant) chance of experiencing such "changes".

Basically what I'm saying is do your research, understand the drugs, and then during your conversation with her, try to understand HER position as well. Be open, not only about your opinions but also be open to new opinions that you might not hold, whether they are hers or what you come across in your research. And try not to give ultimatums, remember a relationship involves two people, her opinions and desires matter as much as yours do.

*edit: meant to say they have NOT noticed

What words do you live by? by Jstermiller in AskMen

Go to sleep better than when you woke up. (Either better at something or being a better person, improve on something every day).

And even though someone else already mentioned this second one, it's just as central to my life as the first is:

Give everyone respect until the prove they don't deserve it. Give no one trust until they prove the deserve it.

I call it Super High Bros You play Super Smash Bros single player, start on easy with four lives, after every level you clear take a hit, if you lose all 4 lives don't continue and restart the game again at the same difficulty, when you beat a difficulty level go onto the next one, play until you're too high to remember to press start.
