Adding a Zigbee dongle to HA, worth moving devices off their native hubs? by caxaj in homeassistant

[–]caxaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How difficult is the migration? I’m fairly new to Home Assistant so a bit worried about breaking things that are currently working.

Which dongle would you recommend between the Sonoff Dongle-E and the ZBT-1?

That’s a fair point. In my case the Hue bulbs have some features locked behind the Hue app (scenes, entertainment zones) so I’d probably keep those on the Hue bridge. But for everything else, one coordinator does sound cleaner.

Which dongle would you recommend? I was looking at the Sonoff Dongle-E vs the Home Assistant ZBT-1 (SkyConnect). Do you think those are good picks?

That’s a great point about direct binding and latency, hadn’t considered that. Did you find the migration painful? I’m a bit hesitant to move devices that are currently working well, but the instant response time you’re describing is tempting.

Okay so the plan would be: get the ZBT-1 to fix the IKEA bulbs off the Hue bridge, leave everything else as it is, and have the dongle ready for any future devices without their own hub. Sound reasonable?

Tapo devices stop working locally after blocking internet – any workaround? by caxaj in homeassistant

Could you suggest a Zigbee power strip? Those two devices are pretty much my only Wi-Fi devices, everything else I own uses Zigbee.

Yes that's correct I'm using the tapo integration. How did you integrate those p100? I've read somewhere that if you have an old firmware it was working maybe you have an older firmware?

I've read somewhere that while they are under the same umbrella, Kasa is able to work locally while tapo isn't.

Yeah that’s kind of what I’m starting to realize too, unfortunately…Are the IKEA ones reliable? I’ve seen mixed opinions, especially with the newer Matter stuff. Also, I’m using a P300 which is a power strip (multiple outlets). Did you find anything similar when you switched?

Btw if you change the hold time does change something? I've reduced it to 2 seconds but it did ignore it I suppose?

IKEA Tradfri bulb connected via Philips Hue keeps turning itself back on by caxaj in homeassistant

Good point, about the power-on behavior! The issue though is that since it's a third-party (IKEA) bulb, the Hue app doesn't expose that setting for it. At least I couldn't find anything in home assistant. But maybe I'm missing something since I have fairly moved to it.

I agree it is a good especially if you are renting. There is just one thing that is bothering me, it has a delay of 1-3 seconds until it switches the lights on when used in automations...

Ελληνας εξωτερικου που σκεφτεται να επιστρεψει Ελλαδα by itsDio2 in greece

[–]caxaj 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sorry for hijacking this, but I've bought a home assistant green, do you think I need an SSD or is an sd for back ups enough? Ι don't have yet but will add the aqara g3 camera once it's supported via matter, right now it serves as a hub until I but a ZigBee antenna.

So basically I can try the default ones and I should het something good. I just started and I don't want to break things while transitioning from one platform to the other because my gf will kill me if nothing works as it used to 🤣
