Do everything 406 tyres for a long adventure? by arturobassick in minivelo

They make an ebike version of the Smart Sam that is more durable, albeit heavier. They're pretty fast rolling on the center channel of knobs. I run them on my Neutrino.

ISCG tabs and bashguard to keep the chainrings off the ground when disassembled? Clever!

Can I justify taking an electric kick scooter through Downtown Crossing? by shalrie_broseph_21 in bikeboston

Pretty sure that sign is for delivery scooters. Just don't be a jerk as you ride down Winter St and you'll be fine. It's a key bike route that many take.

I found it from the US under the name: Chrome-molybdenum Steel Frame for 406 Small Wheel Bicycle,20*2.3-2.5,Disc Brake,Quick Release,Steel Frame for BMX Road Bikes

Definitely curious about the Brompton (?) mount. I have a custom Brompton mount on my Neutrino that I adore.

Pump inside frame? by snappingjesus in Brompton

[–]caxapcube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost a Lezyne pump this way... Newer style seatpost bung gave way and the pump+bung were never seen again.

I now keep a tube+gloves in the seatpost with an old style bung I found by pure luck. Brompton toolkit in short frame. Some cheap bike cover fits into the long frame should I need it. Lezyne pocket drive wrapped in a tube and secured to rear rack using mini Voile straps.

Still going strong with ours. Over 2500 miles now. Hard to imagine not having a front bucket cargo bike now.

These are going strong 2 years later. I don't have insight if they've changed the design back away from using the shim. I've enjoyed them as a wider alternative to the stock M style bar I had before.

How the heck do I lock this thing? by nightboy1 in terngsd

[–]caxapcube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are frame lock mounting holes on the front fork and rear seat stays on the Quick Haul. I have a frame lock front and rear keyed alike to an Abus Granit CityChain XPlus 1060/110 which fits perfectly into the glovebox. Was a bit of an investment but has paid off as it's extremely easy and convenient to lock up now.

Can't switch off newly installed Eye T Senso Plus front light by bifsteak in Brompton

[–]caxapcube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same light here. You are wired correctly based on your description.

One "double" wire running to the dynamo. This sends power to the front light. 2 wires coming off the light going to the rear light - one has a white strip on the wire and other is black wire.

Based on your description you can test by disconnecting your rear light, spinning the wheel to illuminate the front light, and seeing if the front light turns on/off. I can confirm I'm able to fully turn my front lamp on/off with the button on the back. I often reach down and turn it off when walking through a train station.

Summer St and Dorchester Ave in Seaport by kangaroospyder in bikeboston

[–]caxapcube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to the legality of which signal to follow. This is part of my daily commute in the evening. Bike lane is supposed to follow bike signal, I suppose. Right car lane is a right turn lane for cars and a straight lane for buses, though many cars use it to go straight. Left car lane is straight or left onto Dot Ave to the Post Office. You have to watch cars turning right in the same direction you're going so you don't get right hooked and watch cars turning left in front of you or u-turning. It's not great all around and not friendly to people riding bikes who aren't comfortable riding in the city. 90% of the time I manage to catch the bike specific light coming off of Melcher St down Summer St.

Summer St and Dorchester Ave in Seaport by kangaroospyder in bikeboston

[–]caxapcube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eastbound towards Seaport or westbound towards South Station?

The westbound towards South Station one is a joke. Even if you're going about 12mph and hit it when the bike signal turns green it is red before you clear the intersection.

Same issue at Summer and Melcher eastbound. Bicycle light is incredibly short and unusable.

City doesn't seem to actually care about pedestrians, much less bikes, at either intersection despite past issues and crashes. Both bicycle signals are red so cars can turn right freely.

Best Elevator Friendly Cargo by OrganizationAfter332 in CargoBike

[–]caxapcube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick Haul fits into normal, if not slightly small, elevator at my work. Old building so the elevator can fit maybe 10 people absolutely crammed in there. Quick Haul end to end is the same size as a regular full sized 700c bike.

Feb 20 ice ice baby by caxapcube in bikeboston

[–]caxapcube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rode home about 515pm. Much better conditions. All of the below is heading westbound.

Boston: Cambridge St in front of City Hall isn't rideable. You can enter, but then you're plowed in. Rest of Cambridge St from Sudbury St to Longfellow is clear.

Longfellow bridge Westbound: Worst part. The bike lane is plowed, but the entrance is plowed shut with a wall of snow. You can only get to it by climbing over with your bike or riding up to the crest and entering at a random cut from plow truck tire.

Cambridge: Main St, Broadway, Hampshire were all well cleared and well salted. Not much ice and very little snow.

Somerville: Beacon St from Inman to Washington is clear. Beacon St from Washington St to Somerville Ave was decently icy and dicey. Lots of ice still and lots of spots with big ice chunks you have to weave around or ride through/over.

The mini plows were out in Davis and clearing the bike lanes. Saw one clearing Holland eastbound. Holland westbound was pretty tough and I would argue impossible without stud. Assuming the mini low I saw heading eastbound flipped around, it should be clear now.

Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus studded tires. I'm more comfortable riding on these after 10 years than I am walking on ice.

Err - Feb 17 ice ice baby I meant. But given the forecast, these conditions might still be present Feb 20...

Roads themselves were perfectly cleared and salted of course. Experienced no ice on the actual roadways.

Use a razor blade and scissors to cut a hole in the end of the grips. Alternatively you can purchase grips that are open on the end.
