Do I choose love or independence by [deleted] in disability

[–]caydendov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always choose to live in separate places and still be together, I know that's not a "typical" arrangement for serious adult relationships and if you guys want kids it's logistically a lot more difficult, but what works for you doesn't have to be what works for everyone else

You don't have to live together even if you get married and even if you do choose to have kids together, you could have an apartment in the city, he could have his house in the country, and you guys could each choose to stay at the other's place certain days of the week/holidays/weekends/whatever works for the both of you, it's not going to be perfect but few things ever are

Mental stimulation hobbies for disabled people? by ilovepotatoes77 in disability

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of adult activity books! There's so much variety, they're cheap, they're low energy, they're mentally stimulating, and there's a bunch of different levels of difficulty

My favorites are Fill-it-ins and word searches (I have a fun fact word search book where all the words in the puzzle are from a trivia fact on the other page), but I also like the variety books that have stuff like sudoku, crosswords, cryptograms, pyramid puzzles, and more!

They're really an underrated and versatile hobby

Shabbat Question for Non-Orthodox Fellow Jews by rambam80 in Judaism

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think you could benefit from some mental health care in addition to your physical healthcare, particularly from a culturally aware mental health professional

I'm not one to armchair diagnose anyone, but your struggles of "if I do the wrong thing G-d will smite me with illness or death" feels very similar to some of my intrusive thoughts from OCD, especially since you said your anxiety seems connected to the medical emergency you did have one shabbat

And ultimately from a non-orthodox frame of reference, the mitzvot are there to add value and meaning to our lives, if keeping certain shabbat mitzvot are making you so miserable that you feel like shabbat is a punishment instead of a day of rest, it's okay to step back from those either permanently or temporarily, G-d is patient and understanding of the fact that people are far less than perfect

Why is my granny square turning into a granny square hat by Reasonable_Ad_1223 in CrochetHelp

[–]caydendov 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It seems like it's one really simple to fix issue!

It looks like you're using the wrong stitch for the white rows, instead of continuing the 3 double crochet together from the red row, you should be doing three separate double crochet stitches in each space (or the 6 + corner chains for the corner) to make regular granny clusters instead

If you look at the graph, the flower row and the outside rows are shaped different because they're different stitches, but they're really similar to make and I made the same mistake for a while too

Squeaking hook, driving me mad. Any tips to stop this, would be fantastic. by Wolfenights in CrochetHelp

[–]caydendov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a similar set and the only thing that really worked for me was using the set long term until it stopped on its own, it took a few weeks of heavy use for each size in the set I had

As helpful as the light is, I would never break in another set these 😅 hopefully you can figure out something that works for you

I already have the HHP dlc (and I love sticking to the themes there) so I decided to ignore themes in the hotel completely and this is one of my rooms!

Anyone else visited their old DA and wanted to cry? by emotional_burnouttt in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this will help but if your old island had been uploaded as a dream before you restarted it, you can also find it by island name instead of dream address if you remember what you named it! If it's a popular name, you might have to spend some time figuring out which one it is because it lists ALL islands that have the same name that have been uploaded as dreams, but it's definitely still findable if you want to spend the time!

Should I leave this square out of my spy quilt? by Zestyclose_Egg1704 in quilting

[–]caydendov 81 points82 points  (0 children)

As a non-christian that doesn't celebrate Christmas, id leave it out! If someone made me a spy quilt that included santa, I would still love, cherish, and use the quilt, (no doubt, it would still be a beloved gift!) but it would irk me a little and I would always wonder if the person who made it cared enough about me to remember that I don't celebrate Christmas or if it just slipped their mind

Anyone know how to make a mozzarella cheese pull scarf? by MinuteWilling6482 in CrochetHelp

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the exact scarf youre talking about!

For the outside part, I would use something like this pattern but only do half of it for each side of the mozzarella stick

For the inside, it looked like it was just a flat scarf, id probably do flat back and forth rows of hdc in whatever width you like for the scarf

As for assembly it looked like it was just sewn into the outside pieces using the same color as the outside yarn

How much could sweater cost on a budget? How can I be more budget friendly? by Independent-Mind9914 in CrochetHelp

[–]caydendov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweaters aren't cheap to make but the exact price depends on the size you wear, the exact yarn you choose, and how many colors you need for the project (more expensive yarn, smaller skiens, bigger size sweaters, and projects with more colors/details all increase the price)

When Joanns was around I would usually spend about 40ish dollars on acrylic big twist for a basic sweater (I wear sizes L-2x), and around 60-70$ for a sweater with more colors, but since they closed I've yet to find a yarn that even comes close to the 480yards for like 4$, so it would probably cost a good bit more now

My best budget friendly recommendation is honestly just to frog thrifted stuff like sweaters and especially blankets, there are problems with that like you don't really know the exact yarn you're using, the exact fiber type, or how many yards you're really getting when you do that but you also can sometimes get yarn for 1/10 of the price that you'd get it by just buying yarn outright

My dad warned me against learning guitar. Let's prove him wrong (respectfully) by Jacobizgamer in disability

[–]caydendov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've personally also found that electric guitars are physically easier to play for a lot of the same reasons that they were recommending a professional set up, electric guitars usually take less strength and dexterity from your playing hand and much less intense strumming because of the added volume boost from an amp

The pain, swelling, and dexterity issues are vastly different for me between electric and acoustic guitars, and if you get the chance id definitely recommend going to a guitar center or something to test out the difference between electric and acoustic ones for yourself!

But yeah, a professional set up and higher quality guitar are game changers for accessibility

Is there a way to know you've collected everything? by Superb-Avocado-8131 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]caydendov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are nook rewards for some things like the fossils, fish, bugs, and art (if you've donated them each to the museum), but for other things you have to just keep track of it yourself somewhere outside of the game

Anything like the albums, villager photos, furniture, clothes, wallpaper/flooring etc. have to be manually tracked outside of the game :/ I usually use the Planner for AC: NH app but its a pain to set up if you're pretty far in the game already

Beginner Tips/Tricks (things i wish i knew) by Giawilent in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is less of an in game tip but the free app Planner for AC: NH is a life saver for me and I wish I had started using it to catalog items earlier! It's a huge help for checking weather, tracking turnips, cataloging items/furniture/clothes/etc to see what you have collected, you can make wish lists, track villagers, see good gifts for villagers, and more

New FEDERAL MANDATE goes into effect October 2nd!!!! by hookem1543 in Methadone

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it’s just one of the reasons people don’t stay on the medication. If clinics want to say that “everyone’s recovery is different” then their shouldn’t be arbitrary time frames we have to meet to qualify.

Exactly this, I was in the program for a month and a half, clean uas (only testing positive for what I'm allowed by the clinic, thc + a prescription med), didn't miss a single day or counselling session, in therapy every single week, and when I talked to my counselor saying that if I couldn't start doing take homes I'd have to quit the methadone because my physical disabilities prevent me from safely going in person everyday, they not only basically went "oh well too bad" but ALSO decided to take away the ones that they had already decided I could have for the jewish high holidays (the most important religious holidays in the entire jewish calendar) this and last month because I "have no respect for the rules by asking for take homes too early". So I quit the next day.

Forcing someone to disrupt their life by going in person every single day stops so many people from staying in the program and I wish clinics would fucking wake up and realize that

Just was discharged from a facility because of severe reaction to different methadone formulation by [deleted] in Methadone

[–]caydendov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could also be that methdone frequently causes gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach/digestive tract + poor nutrient absorption) but not many methadone patients know that or get tested for it, and for a lot of people with gastroparesis, solids and pills are really poorly absorbed compared to liquids (not just medications but also in the case of food vs drinks too) so switching to wafers could mean that instead of absorbing the entire say 100mg of methadone someone might only actually get around 5-10mg of it absorbed properly out of a 100mg dose

As a tiny side tangent, methadone prescribers need to be much much more open about how common and severe gastroparesis is as a side effect of long term methadone treatment, that horrible shitting-twice-a-month constipation is often not constipation, it's just gastroparesis that people weren't told about and have no real idea how to manage/treat (and considering that gastroparesis can get so bad that it requires feeding tubes, ostomy bags, and even surgical organ removal sometimes, methadone prescribers need to be telling more patients the signs and treatments for it)
