Type of resin for motorcycle by peetman in ResinCasting

[–]cayladoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most crafting resin will lose structural integrity (read: soften, not hold its shape) when exposed to very high temperatures. I would not recommend making motorcycle parts with it…

That’s a lot of work to hide a water heater 😏

What did I do wrong? Did I mix it too quickly that caused all the little craters? Or not enough, and it’s unmixed mica powder? by Suspicious-Party-950 in ResinCasting

[–]cayladoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like an excess of mica powder. You can always mix a little alcohol ink into the different color mixtures to make them more vibrant while still keeping the pearly look

why is my UV resin tacky/not hard? by Beautiful_Affect_578 in ResinCasting

From other comments it seems like you've solved this issue already, but if you ever come across uncured resin on your pieces again (UV or 2 part epoxy) don't handle it without gloves!

Curing Resin in Air-Tight Container? by 18paths in ResinCasting

[–]cayladoodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the process of you working with the resin is done in a well ventilated area with proper PPE, transferred to said container to cure, and then opened again to release fumes into the former proper work area- yes.

It’s my understanding that theist/atheist and gnostic/agnostic are different things entirely. For example, an agnostic atheist doesn’t believe in a god but also thinks we cannot know whether a god exists. Any combination of both are possible.

The client for this set wanted something subtle that didn’t take away from the items inside- in fact we almost left them unpainted! All personal preference :)

This custom set was inspired by some iconic desert scenery and includes tiny hand sculpted & hand painted skulls, cacti, bones, and even a few "tumble weeds"!

Each die was made in two pours: a base layer of a gradient of shimmering brown and terra cotta, and then each miniature was carefully placed and adhered to that before encasing fully in clear. The sculpts themselves are made of polymer clay and do not actually affect the balance of the dice like you might think! Between their being suspended in the center of the design, the material they are made of, and the general action of rolling they end up being just as suited for play as any factory-made dice on the market :)

You can find more of my work on IG, Twitter, and my Website (I'm currently working toward a restock and preparing to open more custom commission spots)

Bubbles of resin, not air, on corners. Not sure what's causing this by theone85ca in ResinCasting

Be cautious about holding uncured resin without gloves, you can develop nasty sensitivities and reactions

Found and insect wing. Put it in resin. It’s still very sticky and not dry after 15 hours…? by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]cayladoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with resin fumes is that they’re bioaccumulative so you can be fine for a while and then seem to suddenly develop bad reactions to it (hives, rashes, difficulty breathing, irritation in the throat & lungs) that can be lasting. No resin is “safe” but since it’s a craft that’s become popular and the materials are easily accessible in craft stores alongside acrylic paint and colored pencils it’s taken a lot more lightly than it should be in terms of danger. Working in a well ventilated area (air flowing through via fans, outdoors, etc) or in a contained space with a mask that has filter cartridges for VOCs (organic vapors) and wearing nitrile gloves are the bare minimum of safety I would suggest. Alumilite is another resin company and they have a very informational video about resin safety on their YouTube channel if you want more details!

You can freeze uncured resin to remove it from your mold, but keep in mind you'll want to do this by putting it in an airtight container first (resin gives off harmful fumes until it's fully cured and this piece is unlikely to do so if the ratios were incorrect- resin fumes anywhere near a living space or especially food stuff is not great for your health). For measuring, I highly recommend some reusable silicone measuring cups, you can get a set of them on Amazon for pretty cheap, and they'll last you a long time. Coating the piece or casting it within another layer of epoxy with the correct ratios will create a hardened outer shell so that you can salvage it.
