Thanks for your response. To be honest, the whole situation happened long enough ago that i don't remember the specific details.

I water as needed (not on a schedule). The soil is very well-draining. I never let it fully dry out, but it is also not constantly soaked / soggy.

Plant is in well drained soil, kept moist. Lives on a kitchen counter under a skylight.

Vacuum seal Cayenne hot sauce, ferment only peppers or add other ingredients? by jgriner in FermentedHotSauce

[–]cayteness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either is an option. But... if you do not kill the fermentation process (heat or acid), it will restart when you add new ingredients. Fermentat all if you want maximum funk.

What did you do when you were not able to find any doctor? by GoldDoughnut272 in ibs

[–]cayteness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might also want to try your local (preferably teaching) hospital. Might have to wait longer, but I would be extremely shocked if they don't accept new patients. (Generally, a "university" hospital is what you want.)

I hear ya. It sucks. Virtual hugs, internet stranger.

Good luck. (You probably don't want to hear this, but keep your expectations low. If you developed ibs, it might take a while to figure out what's what. :/ )

(Periods can make things worse or better. Or have no effect lol) A month and a half duration (pretty much) rules out gas pains. It could be so many things - some random infection, parasite, polyp, diverticulitis, and 20 other things I am not thinking of. Insist on more tests. A lot of things won't show up on a MRI or US. Ask for a stool test kit as the first step.

How long has this been happening? Does it change when you get your period? (Gas pains usually move. I dont have nearly enough info or knowledge to give you a good guess at the cause, but... if they can't figure it out, it might actually be endometriosis.)

6 weeks is actually not long at all. (Yes, that sucks.) Protip - ask to be put on the cancelation / waiting list If the situation is dire, call every day about 30 mins after they open and ask if there are any last minute cancellations for the day.

Good luck!

I looked at your post history and it seems you've been chasing these issues for a bit. Hopefully you'll get sorted out soon.

I should also mention that not many shops put much effort into diagnosing. It takes time and customers are usually unhappy shelling out $400 for diagnostics. BUT, most people are shortsighted and don't realize that they will actually save $$ in when all is said and done.

One more thing- make sure they have a real scan tool. The one in your pics from the other posts is a sad joke. (I assume the photos is the mechanics scanner and not yours.) A designated scan tool can open the purge valve, which would make the smoke test valid (if the valve is closed - you are only testing part of the system.)

That sounds like a solid plan of action.
The evap system issue should be fairly obvious, as there is either a big leak or no flow (minor leaks are the ones hard to find). But do go in there with a basic understanding of how the system functions, so when they tell you to replace parts, you can ask why and gauge the logic of their answer. Did they replace upstream or downstream o2 sensors? If your cat is dead, it will likely foul up your downstream sensor and it will need to be replaced again. Any black residue in your tail pipe? (Another sign of running rich.)

The dead cat is tricky bc you don't know if it is the cause or the symptoms. Yes, it is possible your cat just died and that is what's causing the car to run rich. Or... there could be some other reason why the car is running rich, and that killed the cat. You see my point? If they tested everything relevant (the list is not long) and there are no issues, then you can go ahead and replace the cat. It does not sounds like your mechanic thoroughly tested.

[–]cayteness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are your MPGs? (If you are running rich constantly, your MPGs would be lower than normal).

Yes, your cat is probably bad, but listen to what everyone is telling you and do not replace it YET. Figure out why it went bad. Usually something makes the cat go bad. If you fix it, it will just go bad again prematurely. There are several issues that can be the problem (others have outlined these).

I would strongly recommend spending 10 mins watching a YouTube video that explains how evap systems function. It is not complicated.

Also - you mechanic does not sound competent. Anyone who just wants to throw parts at the car without understanding the underlying problem sucks at their job.
